Seemed like a shame wintering in golf Mecca Scottsdale and not golfing so I took a buddy up on his offer to help me with equipment and some tips. After a few trips to range and 2 rounds of golf I saw some improvement but was still making as many bad hits as good. Decided to take some individual lessons from a pro, the first being yesterday.

After watching me hit a few he observed I was often striking behind the ball. He asked where I was looking as I hit and I replied “the back edge of the ball. “Then a crazy thing happened- with some explanation he placed 1 tee where the ball would be and another tee 10” in front of the first. He told me to focus on striking the forward tee and I took both out and left a perfect square divot just in front of the first tee - perfect. Short story- I was soon hitting the ball consistently focusing on a point 10” in front of the ball! I was hitting the ball well cause it was in the arc of my focal point!

That for me was the big aha in my first lesson. Anyone else had this same experience or use this method?

It’s called Aiming Point I believe from The Golfing Machine.

And I doubt TGM was the first to discuss it either.

Welcome to the forum, Dennis.

Good to hear your lesson went well. Never tried the Aiming Point Method.

Keep us posted on the progress though.
BTW - We have snow everywhere and it's like 20 degrees outside... so basically I'm envious that you can get out at all.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.
