I hit two approach shots yesterday to 4 feet of the hole. Both holes were cut close to the front, just behind a bunker. And yeah, my putter was not working...at all ! Missed both birdie puts!!!! The belly putter is already back in the bag.

I had a horrible round today. Could not keep my driver in the fairway to save my rump! Number 18 at my home course is just about impossible for me to par. The green slopes so much, it is hard to get an approach shot to stick. No way to run it up, bunkers protect it. A draw off the tee plays the best for this hole, so naturally I slice one into the pines on the right. I had 155 to the center, but had to hit a low shot under the limbs to get anywhere near the green. 5 iron punch shot. With a lot of luck, the ball made it through and ended up just 10 yards off the green. Still had do pitch over the trap. Hit a 56 that hopped and dropped 2 feet from the pin! Bam, par baby! Finally!!!

When I was 14, my brother (10 years older) and his hot girlfriend carried me to see Loverboy. I hear one of their songs today, and can go back in my mind to a simpler time of Rock and Roll!

I have not seen it while playing in recent years, but it would not bother me in the least. When I was in college, me and my buddies would light it up. My game would go to hell, so I gave it up when playing. I quit golf for a number of years and shot competitive archery. Tried it shooting archery and could not have the level of concentration I needed to shoot my best. Gave it up altogether in 2001.

Yessss...I would like that for free!

I was playing Tobacco Road my first and only time, and hit a tee shot into some pines. Thought I could rocket one through the trees to get close to the green. My friend, who had helped me locate the ball, was a few feet away. Just as soon as I hit the ball, it came back like a bullet and hit me in the side of the leg and dropped me like a sack of potatoes! Dern pines! My buddy was just about to pass out laughing!

Easter egg hunt for the kids at church on Saturday morning. We had our traditional sunrise service which we do on a hill out back of our church each Easter morn. We then have breakfast afterward in the fellowship hall. We go home for a couple of hours and come back for the 11 am service. It is truly a special time of the year! Then got to kick back and watch my favorite tournament!

Ground Reactive Forces and "Jumping" for Power
jclifton replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
This has been a very good thread! I have implemented "jumping" into my swing and really like it. Really drove the ball well yesterday with a lot of power and control. I started off by pushing off hard with my left foot with great power but little control. I backed off, started into it a little easier and have worked my way up to where I can push or "jump" into it with power. Thanks for posting this thread! -
Annoying Things Golfers Say and Do on the Course
jclifton replied to Lag Rag's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
A pet peeve I have just become aware of is golfers who tell you how good they used to be. Ocassionally I tee it up with a guy who has to tell everybody we come in contact with, on the course, how good he used to be, 20 years ago. He sucked then, he sucks now, let your game do the talking. He told me he got paired up with some other guys the other day who constantly out drove him by 20-30 yards. Decided he needed to play some better balls so he could drive it further......he bought some Noodles! -
Whewww! What a show! Glad Julien pulled it out. He is coming on strong as a contender. His golf speaks for itself. I, like others have posted, am getting tired of Mark. He has turned into a whiner. I do like the way the season is progressing as far as the fairness of the competition. All the players are being tested with challenges that require all around golf skill. I felt that last season didn't challenge all the players equally. Some were really able to dodge bullets with weak challenges.

I played Keith Hills today! It is a great deal, especially with the 27 holes. Heard they are going to be doing extensive repairs to cart paths and possibly replace greens with heat resistant bermuda. Chicora is also a good deal just down the road at Erwin. Course is in great shape too.

I shot a 39-50 on a par 72 earlier this year. The back nine at my home course is tougher than the front but not that much! Just blew it!

Which American player will win more majors in his career?
jclifton replied to sean_miller's topic in Tour Talk
I personally think Keegan Bradley is going to win more majors than anyone on the poll list. He hits it long, plays smart golf, and performs well under pressure. Two wins in his PGA rookie season, including a major! His play at the PGA Championship proved himself to me. When Keegan and Jason Dufner were in the playoff, specifically. Third hole of playoff, #18, 200 yards over the water for an approach shot for Keegan. I figured he would lay up, make par, and still win. Instead he does not back down and made a hell of a shot to about 17 feet. Dufner had no choice but to go for the green, over the water at around 200 yards then. It will be an interesting next few years to see what develops in the majors. -
Interesting story, inthehole. My dad played golf but pretty much had quit by the time I got old enough to play. I did take advantage of his clubs though, and started hitting balls in my grandad's cow pasture. My little cousin joined in and we would play during the summer days. We played at courses as soon as we were able to drive and pretty much taught ourselves. I played until the 3-D Archery tournament bug bit me. I did that for about 13 years. I agree, it is hard to do two serious hobbies at one time. Layed down the bow when my little girl was born, almost 6 years ago. Last year me and my wife took an anniversary trip to a spa and golf resort. They had a package that included a round of golf, so I took the clubs and played a round solo. Didn't want to embarrass myself with being paired up! Well, I played a lot better than I thought I would have. The addiction started right then. I called a buddy up when I got home, who is an avid golfer, and we have been playing at least once a week since. I am 43 years old, still live on our family farm, and still hit shag balls in that same cow pasture where it all started. The fence is down now, and I have it well mowed. No cows or cow patties to maneuver!

Long Putters and Belly Putters Taking Over
jclifton replied to stjames's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Just noticed that Phil Mickelson is using one at the Deutsche. I also caught the Feherety show last night with Bones and Fluff as the guests. Feherety asked what the one thing they could change about golf and Bones immediately said he would do away with the long putters. Said he diidn't think it was right to have an anchor point for the club. Wonder if he has recanted that testimony! -
I like the looks of that bag! I believe I would hang onto it too. On another note, I must play in some pretty cheap tournaments. I've never seen a prize that nice for closest to the pin!

What do you use to mark your ball with?
jclifton replied to Nine Iron's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I also don't like having a lot of stuff in my pockets and can't stand fumbling around trying to find a marker. I use the magnetic hat clips with an NC State logo or one from Tobacco Road Golf Course with their signature buck logo on it. I have heard of people using poker chips for markers but to me they seem too big to use. Dang sure can't putt over one! -
I have a friend who gets a 5 gallon bucket of balls from a guy, on occasion, for $10. He theory is it is cheaper to hit those than balls from the range. One day he was at the range hitting a bucket of balls he had brought from home and the owner came up and asked was he stealing balls. He told him no, he was actually making a donation!

My home course is only about 4 miles from my house, so I play it most of the time. If I happen to be working near another course, and I know I'm going to finish a job early, I will throw the clubs in the truck and have at it! My home course does have some holes that I have a tough time with. I can goof up some days and have a higher score than some of the other courses I play. That being said, I do play some courses that are a lot easier to score on than my home course. I also play some that are harder and can come away with a score that might not be as good as I have put up at my home course, but I feel like I played better.

I would say most of the time first one in, but could be who is closer, but should never be the last to putt. When your group appraoaches the green, would it be appropriate for the one furtherest away to pull the pin? Heck no. The one away needs to be lining up their putt. Speeds up play.

Post your personal golf bloopers or funniest golf moments! :)
jclifton replied to blackstallion10's topic in Golf Talk
A few weeks ago I was hitting my new irons for the first time one evening. I hit shots parallel to my barn and am able to hit out to about 270 yards. Well, my neighbor, who I golf with occasionally, was watching me and was pretty well tanked. I shanked about 10 in a row into my barn. My neighbor says to let him give it a shot. He shanks one off the corner of my barn and it ricochettes into my work truck. My neighbor then says it was a good thing it didn't hit my truck because he would have to fix the dent. I asked him what the heck did he think it hit? He says the trailer that was hooked to my truck. I really didn't give a crap, as it is a dented up work truck anyway, but he did add a new one! He handed back the club and hit the road! LOL -
I played today with my cousin and his in-laws, who I had not played with before. We had a group of two behind us, but the course was loaded in front of us, so we saw no point in letting them through. On one hole, one of the guys behind us was looking his ball in our fairway. He proceeded over to a ball that was my cousin's father-in-law's and hit it. We were like, WTF? We let it slide that he might have made an honest mistake. Two holes later they hit an approach shot while were still on the green that luckily came up to the right. Next hole they tee off while we are hitting approach shots and a ball comes real close the cart. I through up my arms, giving them a WTF? One of the guys hit into us again on next hole. I had had enough. I took an 8 iron and sent his ball over the green. After we putted out and left to go to the turn, I saw his ball next to the cart path, hoping he would see it too. The guy found it and told the guys behind them that someone had hit his ball. The guys happened to be friends of mine that they told. Much to our happiness they left after just nine holes! Etiquette? It's about gone! Too many idiots out there to educate!
