Find a "swing guru" who you can trust 100% in and never look back. If he/she is local or close to you then it is better. Cheers and have fun!

What is the widest lake you would dare attempt to hit over?
keiyoz replied to HytrewQasdfg's topic in Golf Talk
One guy I play with carries 250m consistently, with about 85% chance of hitting the fairways. His long game is truly enjoyable to watch... Right now, I would only be comfortable with a 200-yard lake. -
i don't think i have any business playing my stiff shafts...but i bought the clubs used with very little club knowledge. the misses seem to be right, although they aren't exactly low... but definitely right. i am also noticeably shorter than my playing buddies who are of similar handicap... i have really warmed up to the irons, but the longest one i carry is a 5i.

played 9 holes, was +5 after 7 holes and finished off strongly with an 8 and 9 on the last 2 par 5s, thus scoring 48. the practice with irons is showing results, but now would be the right time to get a new club to cover the gap between driver and 3 hybrid. will also consider adding a 60' vokey spin-milled.

i am a huge fan of many sports... so i feel like chipping in here. i have experienced inter-school tournaments with table-tennis, soccer and tennis. i have also played hand ball, volley ball, hockey, rugby, football, badminton, bowling, pool with friends and family. out of all the sports i mentioned, the only professional coaching i had was with tennis. my friends and i picked up the rest of the sports recreationally, and some of us became good enough to compete in inter-school tournaments. out of the above sports that my friends and i participated in, we could compete with one another immediately without any professional coaching, and had alot of fun while doing so. i do not believe that my friends and i could approach golf in a similar manner; we would just be too discouraged. just for the record, 5 team mates from my soccer team dabbled in golf for the past 2 years, and only 2 can break 100 today.

i believe... in playing golf during non-peak hours i believe... looking good helps to a certain extent i believe... i can reach a single-digit handicap i believe... i will continue to play golf as long as i can

shot a 106... blehhh. driver was good, and am trying to instill a "swing left" mentality to most of my clubs. will start putting in more practice chipping and putting, as it is the worst aspect of my game right now.

going to the range at least once a week has become a routine lately. also, i also almost hold a golf club everyday, and swing in front of the mirror.

1) make my swing more pleasant to the eye 2) become at least a 15 hdcp (i have more opportunities to play than before)

you have a huge gap between 5-iron and 4-iron, how do you deal with this? we have similar distances up until 4-iron.

i guess one of the biggest obstacles is the price factor. in this area, you have to fork out $50-$70 on the weekends. this is why i usually play in the afternoon and take advantage of promotions.

more info here: http://www.taylormadegolf.com/produc...il.asp?pID=167 this is what i remember: 1) heavier weight on top - produce lower ball flight 2) heavier weight on heel - tend to draw 3) heavier weight on toe - tend to fade and i think the rules say you are not supposed to tinker with the weights during a round. have fun!

mine comes up to about 24...but will still post as a 26 as we get to play with caddies in these areas plus, i don't think many people use this handicap system here. people just assume handicap = score - 72. nevertheless, thank you for this handy tool!

sorry for the long-winded post : i played around with my friends' clubs and took lessons first . after 2-3 months, becoming somewhat comfortable with swinging irons, i bought an iron set first which had stiff shafts (currently still in use). then i proceeded to purchase a Cobra driver and 2 Nike hybrids which had regular shafts. from my signature, you can see that only 1 nike hybrid remains in my bag, which i hardly ever touch at all. fortunately for me, most of the clubs i bought were used. this is where my advice comes in: from personal experience, i would ask you to guess the type of golf swing that you desire to have and the swing speed that you will generate. although body types of individuals may vary, one can still make broad generalizations, especially given your current level. for example, you may observe how other golfers of your age/build swing their golf clubs. if you like their swing speed and style, ask them about their club specs. it would be best if you have a group of friends that you can observe, then you will have a better idea of their athletic abilities and personalities ect. i have been involved from many sports from soccer, tennis, volleyball, table-tennis and football. a skillful soccer playmaker like ronaldinho does not normally become an andy roddick of tennis, nor a cabrera of golf. in the end, nothing beats a full-scale custom fitting, provided you have already possessed a consistent golf swing. but for now, your best bet would be to guess your "desired" swing style and swing speed, and then demo as many clubs as possible that might match your swing. so if you envision yourself as an aggressive player, you might want to ignore flexible/graphite shafts. good luck!

i work for my family, so i guess my schedule is quite flexible. i average about 2-3 rounds per month, and have been spending 20 minutes swinging my irons at home recently. marriage is coming up around february, which may mean less time for golf. i would be happy with 2 rounds per month after that.

another new 18-hole course today... played for the first time ever from the blue tees (it was a pretty straight lay-out). shot a 107...could be my highest score ever with a course rating of 73,9 & slope 139. iron play is improving and i think the changes to my swing will be reflected on the scorecard after 3-4 more outings. i really feel that i am swinging in to out and have more consistency. plus, my wrists don't hurt anymore even after hours of practicing, which is an encouraging sign :). driver, 5i, vokey and putter are my most used clubs currently. the rest have been largely ignored.

went to a new course, played 9 holes to the worst of my ability, then went back home sulking. got up at 4.30am, went back out to the same 9 holes and scored a 51. It was an easy course too, straight layouts and generous lack of OB situations. just got a new "golf card" that gives me very good rates at many of the local courses. so i will be expecting improvement in the next few weeks. i have been working on swinging through the shoulders more, and it seems that i am hitting the irons more consistently.

i have only seen fake x-20s. the thing that jumps out is the logo and letters on the head of the club. the fake one is relatively flat and looks like decal, while the real one has a 3-d look and does not feel flat to the touch. my x-14s are also from a 2nd hand shop so i wouldn't know if it originally came with serial numbers or not. if you hit them great, but they are fake, would you still purchase them? they might make good back-up clubs.

i read somewhere on this forum that the "ideal" ball flight is a ball that ascends at a gradual pace, as opposed to a "u-shaped" shot whereby the ball ascends at a faster pace (reaching its highest point faster). can anyone tell me whether this "ideal" ball flight is exclusive only to blades, or can cavity backs produce a similar-looking shot? so far, the people i met on the range that produce this "ideal'" ball flight all use blades, and they also hit the ball further than me (my 7i is 140)

fergie is dying to get his hands on the champions league trophy again. now if only our boys would wise up against the old folks at milan

i enjoy playing alone, because i can determine the pace of play. however, recent events seem to indicate that i should be playing more with partners. problem is, i have noticed that because of tight schedules, i always play at a very fast pace. even when i free up my schedule, i still play at a fast pace. so when i play with partners, regardless of how fast they play, i still get impatient as the pace of play is slower than what i'm used to. this really affected my tempo and golf swing. until i am able to effectively control my tempo, i guess i will refrain from playing alone for a while.

when i started taking lessons, the local pro told me to "hold the club in the most comfortable way". he didn't even talk about the different grips out there. in the end, i settled for something that looked like an overlap grip, and hasn't changed it since.

alot of good information on this thread here. never knew the stroke + distance rule regarding OBs. regarding sonicblue's statement, can anyone tell me whether this means that when you try to swing at the ball but completely miss it, then it should count as a stroke?

108 , it was such a shame too as the course was beautifully located on a mountain. will take a 1-week break, hit the range and see how it goes
