1. I can't say for certain, but I'm 99% sure golf courses aren't liable for those types of incidents. Most people don't man up and let the person know though. They are parking/living at a golf course at their own risk.
2. I can tell from your swing that the reason you're struggling with consistency when it comes to power is because you're trying to use your arms/muscle to generate the power. You're a big guy so that's only natural for you as a beginner though. Best advice for you is to get ahold of your local club pro and get a lesson once a week (once every two weeks if you're strapped for cash) and work on what he gives you intensely in between lessons. I know when I went for my first lesson the guy scrapped my swing and we started working from the ground up, you might have to hit short pitch shots for a month just trying to get your first move away from the ball right, but practicing this way is worth it. The point i'm getting to is when you get to a point where you know your swing's on the right track (you don't have to be shooting a certain score) go get fitted for a driver.
3. Yea, I wasn't saying to forget the tips and lessons and just wing it haha. Getting lessons is crucial, was just emphasizing that you can't expect too much too quick and that the amount of time you spend on the range is the biggest indicator of how fast you'll start seeing improvement. I know I still have to remind myself I'm not a professional and am allowed to hit bad shots ;). It's certainly one of the longest endeavors you'll ever start.
4. I personally love my 3i off the tee for that 230-240 distance you're talking about. I have a 2 hybrid basically for hitting into greens on par 5's and I like it for that purpose but wouldn't like that same feel for my 3i shots which I tend to shape more. I say keep p-3 as irons and pick up a 2 hybrid or even a 5 or 7 wood.
5. I like Bridgestone's tour ball, easily second best behind the pro v and they have a few different versions of the ball
6. This is a habit i wish i could form, cleaner clubs not only improves their effectiveness but your confidence over the ball
7. I'm guessing here, but it seems that you're just picking up the game. Long story short, I've been playing for almost 10 years and still don't consistently crank 3 woods off the deck, especially since I'm not playing very often. Long OCD filled hours on the range is what it's gonna take to get you where you want to be, you're not going to take a few lessons, find a couple tips online, and start breaking 80. Another thing is I've seen guys hit solid shots for hours on the range and then go out and shoot 90, it's a whole different ball game out there. I wish you the best of luck on your journey but unfortunately that simple piece of advice is the best thing you could follow, beat as many balls out there as your time and wife/girlfriend will allow and your game will come together slowly but surely
8. Haven't been playing a whole lot but this is in golf galaxy the other day, I think it may be a bit blurry. Been shooting in the low to mid 70's and was wondering if anyone had any tips to knock it down a few strokes and increase consistency from hole to hole. Cheers
9. Does anyone else call them bunny hops? Where I'm from in NC everyone calls them that but I've never met anyone else that does. If not, are there any other unique names out there? And what's the lowest your group's ever shot in one? My buddies and I hit the 20 under mark before but it was definitely a one time thing.
10. I think we all agree just about anyone with a good swing can drive it 300+
11. Yea I do pretty often, my uncle and his buddies up in oak island have captains choice tournaments every week. A lot of times I'll ride up and play and he always has his ipod hooked up to a portable iHome. I think it helps my game honestly as long as you're not playing it too loud.
12. Hit the flagstick from 142 yards today with a PW, made the 3 foot birdie putt
13. Second that, 3 wedges feels like a waste of space most of the time,
14. Haha my bad man, I didn't realize you were a monster. I can definitely believe that now, and yea I'm 6'2" with pretty long arms and I know it helps me. I hit it pretty far but I just hit my gap/sand wedge extremely high so I'm thinking about how high my gap would have to go to hit it 145, unless I closed the face down and really went at it.
15. I can understand that completely. There were a few times earlier in my playing days when I would get stuck and felt like I couldn't get any better, very frustrating. The best thing to do if you're at that point is to take a break and come back to it. I guess that's the human condition though, nothing's ever good enough
16. I've been playing for 9 years now, I'm 22. Broke 70 the first time sometime in high school. Consistency is of course the biggest factor. Another major key is avoiding big scores completely, I'll go 5 or more rounds with nothing worse than a bogey carded, so damage control is a big part of shooting low. I'm sure you've noticed how pros can spray it all over the place one day and still shoot 72-75 or even under par, they by no means hit every fairway or green. I'd say it's 50/50 mechanics and mental. You have to have a mechanically correct, repeatable swing of course but you also have to have the attitude of "I know I'm gonna hit it solid and where I'm aiming" and just focus on the shot itself. Believe you're gonna sink every putt inside 25 feet. awmgolfer had great advice as well. When most people hit a few bad shots in their mind the round is over. Sometimes i'll play the first 4 holes without hitting one good shot and be 2 over or something, but you have to forget it and go into that next shot with confidence like you're 2 under. And yea, keeping your drive at least in play is pretty crucial.
17. I'd say defensive and annoying is more like it
18. The 145 gap wedge sounds unreasonable unless you're a low handicap, but cranking a PW out there that far isn't ridiculous at all..
19. 75 to 120, if I have a sand or gap wedge in my hand I'm looking to make birdie.........or at least have a reasonable chance at one, who knows what mood the flat stick will be in any given day
20. Haha maybe 100 yards is more like it. I'm tall and lanky though so for me that's a long ways, which means I can always use the "I didn't think I could hit it that far excuse" and it seems believable...
21. I just felt lefty deserved some defense since I look at it kind of the same way (compare it to other sports). If a guy walks out onto the basketball court at the rec center here wearing all brand new Nike attire, high socks, John Wall shoes, ankle braces, an Allen Iverson like arm sleeve and possibly a headband with the logo flipped to the back of his head and can barely dribble up the court, I'm bound to have a good laugh (on the inside of course) hah. I don't look at it as whether you're cool or not because you're wearing this or that.
22. I generally wouldn't tee off unless they're at least 50 yards ahead of my max drive
23. My and a buddy play 9 at our club in the evenings a lot. If a group of old guys won't let us through, we skip the hole and go around them, simple as that. I am surprised that it's happening to you so often though, most people are usually happy to invite faster groups through.
24. Well I personally agree with Lefty, I'm a pretty good player and you're still not gonna see me out there dressed like a tool. And you guys need to get it through your head that depending on where people are from, there are going to be differences in dress code. At my course, not one person will be wearing a white belt. This thread was meant for posting your own opinion, who (besides you) cares what someone else's opinion is?
25. Neither, it's not like they're hitting wedge into every hole. Everyone's basically playing the same exact stuff so nothing should change unless they start having to shoot -30 to win
