It's about control. Controlling the direction and shot height are the main reasons I hit irons over woods, in most cases. It's also easier to hit irons off of odd lies and out of the rough, at least for myself.

Best golf ball....UMM???
Backspin replied to thedub's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I pick the Taylor Made TP Red. Perfect feel off every club. The others have a marshmellow feel. The only drawback of the TP Red is that it isn't very durable. -
I see Garcia as a spoiled baby that will realize his potential when he matures, which most likely won't happen for another ten years, if ever.

Titleist vs. Mizuno vs. Ping irons
Backspin replied to wardamneagle's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I use Mizuno's MP-32's and I own Titleist 690.cb and 731PM's. I also have some Ping I3 blade (not really a blade) from the year 2001 but have used just about every club out there. For me the Mizuno's are much better. Better feel, lower ball flight (same shafts as the Titleists), cleaner look and they wear better. The Pings have zero feel, a higher ball flight and look a bit clunky at address. The Mizuno's also work for a higher handicap golfer, although most wouldn't think so. Mizuno is the only iron I've ever used that I'd give a 10 rating. -
What is your best golf shot? Mine is this one- I was down by a shot going into a finishing par 5 against a longtime, friendly nemesis. We had ALOT of bragging rights with this round, as it was the last round of the year before winter set in. The winner had months to remind the loser of the match. On this par 5, my second shot hit just right of the green, bouncing off of a mound and rolling down into the tree-line. My playing partner's third shot ended up on the fringe, front of the green. He's lying 3, myself 2...in the trees. It looks like trouble for me. Now, from where I am I can see only the top of the flagstick (About 30 feet away). The green is severely sloped back to front, the pin is tucked and I have only enough room for a 1/2 swing. If I go at the pin, I have to hole it or it's going off the green (due to the slope)...IF I can get it there to begin with. So I aim well right, hoping to land it about 2 feet on, check and trickle down to the cup. Impossible. I have no room to swing and it's a deadpan lie. I open the face quite a bit, aim right and swing the best I can. The ball leaves the face PERFECTLY. It lands about 2 feet on the green (so I am told, I can't see it from where I am)...it checks up and trickles...and trickles... I run up to the green and watch it trickle...into the cup. I scream like a school girl. I'm in for an eagle, which I needed, as my partner holed his fringe putt for a birdie. We ended in a tie...but I still bragged all winter long, anyhow. That's my best shot, what's yours?

Sergio loses focus too often. His anger and frustration take him away from what is needed to consistently contend. He can swing with the best of them but he needs to accept bad breaks and stop taking bad luck personally. I really think if he did this he would get to world #2, possibly #1 (even if only for a short while...until Eldrick wanted it back).

Mizuno MP-32's. I've used them all (at least what models there are for lefties) and I haven't had anything even close to them. Great feel, great look, great trajectory, you name it.

Where you live has a big impact on how good you can get. I live in Minnesota, I'm a 5 handicap. But I start the season in April not having played in 4-5 months so the game isn't in shape. I would say the first month I am a 7 handicap, then summer comes and I improve. By fall I'm a solid 2-3, averaging to a 5. I think If I lived in the south I would get to scratch. Highly doubt I could do it in the northern climate.

I've got 25 years on the guitar. A fusion-style, although my gear doesn't fit the stereotype of the genre. I play a G&L; ASAT Classic semi-hollow-body thru a Fender Blues Deluxe amp. My other guitars are a Fender American Lone Star, a Music Man Sub1, a Peavey Odyssey and a Charvel San Dimas (from the old metal days). Tons a effects, the best is my Maxon Overdrive...

I'm a former competitive bodybuilder so it's weights for me. I will say that if you do lift...stretch daily. Bulk kills a chance for a decent swing. You have to be flexible.

Agreed. You are better off if you miss the ball entirely. You are lying two on your next swing...

I would say the equipment makers are crooks. $400+ for a driver with nothing to it? You can find much more engineering and labor in other products for $400. The balls are a rip-off, the irons are a rip-off...all of it is. I know it's our fault, we pay it. That reminds me, I have to pick up another set of Mizuno MP-32's tomorrow...;)

The worst round I ever had was not the worst score I ever had. I shot a 94 last year, after shooting a 69 two rounds earlier (my career best). I was late to the course, ran to the first tee and it all went crazy from there. Nothing went right. No fairways hit, no GIR's, bladed chips...I was hungry, tired, angry...I can't think about it...why did I post this? Anyhow, I was so mad that I played another round right after and shot a 76. My wife was quite ticked that I got home 6 hours later than usual...sorry, honey.

About 275. If I catch it good a few yards longer. If I'm teeing it up following a double bogey, then that ball is going 300 yards...

I'll go with Scott for one reason- He isn't his own worst enemy.

I'd say the world is improving more than the US is declining. The result would be Americans ranking lower but I think the world has benefited from the American golf boom. Teaching has been revolutionized, along with golf equipment. The rest of the world gains from this as well. This is a good thing.

Hands down the best iron I've ever owned. If Mizuno does discontinue these, it will be a sad day. Just to make sure, I may buy another set now...this way I'll have a new set should Mizuno make the mistake of ending the model.

I pick a spot about 6 inches ahead of the ball (toward the target) and make sure I stay committed through that area. I have to see the clubhead 'blur' past that point. This way I know I stayed in the swing until the ball is gone. I literally do not look at the ball after the initial address. It makes me go through the hitting area. I used to be a bit wayward off the tee and hit it about 250 yards. I'm much more accurate now and average about 275 yards nowadays.

www.pioneercreek.com Nothing special, just a nice quiet round of golf. I guess that is special...

I'm going with Jack for a few reasons. First, he had legendary rivals he had to beat. Trevino, Palmer, Player, Watson, you name it. Second, traveling back then was much more grueling. No private jets and long layovers, etc. Third, He was a family man. Playing golf with family stress is much more difficult. Fourth, Jack was a great Ryder Cup player. More stress there, many say, and Tiger is a bust in that arena. Tiger needs to make hay in that event and I don't think he can, or will. Honorable mention- Jack placed 6th at the Masters at age 58. Enough said...

I own a rep firm in Minnesota. Now, this sounds wonderful, as in I should be able to golf quite a bit...wrong. I live in MINNESOTA!!!!!
