What do you think of this ball?
xamilo replied to JimmyDoesGolf's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I agree. For less than 50 cents a ball you definetely can't go wrong. Its a nice ball, not very spinny nor very "feely" but perfect to start with. -
Question for the board about CG14 wedges
xamilo replied to Danfix99's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Im definetely not a fan of CG14s, I find them to be absolutely horendous looking. I like the looks of the CG12s, and they really really do spin. They are definetely a great buy for 100 bucks -
I used to think I could do everything with just my SW, from 50-120yds any shot was a Sand Wedge shot. When I started using an AW and a LW I realized it was so much easier without having to concentrate on getting exactly 4/9th of a swing with have the speed for 70yds, or 7/15th of the swing with full velocity if I wanted 62yds, etc.

Mizuno looks have always been just impressive, much better than Titleist’s. Both are very very good irons, but the aesthetics of the Mizuno’s really make the decision easy.

Maxfli Max Black Complete Set!?
xamilo replied to David12010860's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would agree with most people here. Get yourself a cheap Affinity or RAM set for $200, and either play the other money or save it for later. After a couple of months you would start thinking about a wedge you are missing, or a new putter you woudl prefer, etc, but you'll first have to start hitting your clubs to know which way to go. I think its best to have a cheap starter club to start with, and keep adding new clubs every time you get better. For example, I still have the same bag my first set came with and I use it with some regularity , but have changed every club inside... -
Why are my drives going higher than they are long?
xamilo replied to Soup Fan's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
What loft are you using? Which shaft? -
You should definetely get one. Having a long gap is a mistake a lot of players make thinking they can shape every shot with one or maybe two wedges. Pro's recomend to keep a gap around 4 deg. between one and the other. Phil M. uses five wedges for example; there has to be a reason don't you think? lol.

I love Mizuno clubs. I think it was quite a smart decition with a little help from fate lol.

I guess it does depend on how much you can afford and how good are you and how much you really play. For example, I love the Opera, and I don't mind spending $100-4200 for a ticket when a good piece comes to the Sydney Opera, others would think is stupid to spend that ammount of money in a show. If you're not a scratch golfer, I can assure you good equipment won't make a huge difference. I'm sure changing your TM R7 driver for a new Tour Burner TP and spend an aditional $500 won't change or improve your game much. I myself use a PING G2 and I get about 250yds straight most of the time. Would that change if I buy a new G10? Porbably not much. Most of us can perfectly use 5-10 years old equipment without much difference. Yes, indeed, its nice to have new equipment, psichologicaly helps a lot, and I love the look of shiny new clubs, which might be MY #1 reason to cahnge clubs, because I want something new, that's all. Golf equipment can cost A LOT. You can spend $3000 in new clubs and still be as bad as you were before. I guess its a matter of finding a balance. In your putter example, I feel the Redwood is a realy nice utter, but I can find a PING Anser or a KArsten which work just as good for me for 1/3 of the price. Again if you have the money and wan to impress your fellow golfers, go and spend the $300. You might not regret at all Cheers

Cheap, good looking shoes for walking
xamilo replied to gsu_paintballer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Adidas Paragon (they sell for about $35 at Golfsmith). Wonderful shoes. I bought a pair once being very reluctant due to the price, and I have had my third pair already.... -
I love the Adams heap Watson's. I lost my Cg10 lob wedge like a year ago, and I had to do a fast replacement with a $19,95 Adams Tom Watson 60º meanwhile, and I haven't switched back!

The Best Sounding Driver In Your Opinion
xamilo replied to r7 425's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
PING G5 I guess... -
I cheer for Valencia as well. Don't get me wrong, I hate Fernando Torres, but hes was doing an excelent job. 70% of the firs goal was made due to his play, Villa just gave the final touch. Well, let's see how we keep oing and who is kicking us out this time lol

Does equipment make that big of a difference?
xamilo replied to tazrestling27's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
If you are making 86 on your fouth round ever you should be looking for sponsoring already insted of buying your own equipment -
PRecept Laddie go quite well, specialy for the price. Pinnacle Soft are less than a buck per piece so they might work quite well for you...
-
Ok, we won our first game, but any spaniard knows that means absolutely nothing. The better we do to start with, the worst we end up doing.. By the way, why the hell did they substituted Torres? He was doing a hell of a job! Go to hell Aragones!!!

The advantage of Graphite, other than the short distance increase, is the decrease in vibration. When you miss shots, the graphite shaft absorbs a little of the miss-hit and is more convenient for your wrists and elbows. The best thing you can do is try the clubs with the graphite shaft you would want and see if you feel comfortable with. I did so and I decided to keep the graphite because I liked the feel they had. I really find them smoother and softer, but I haven’t even seen a distance increase

Not a big fan of beer, but I think Stella Artois makes the best of them all (comercial beers off course)

Having trouble picking a new set
xamilo replied to wolverine318's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I agree. I've done soemthing like that a couple of times and I have regreted the rest of the time just for not having picked what I really wanted. But I would go for the Mizunos. They just look SO PRETTY (And I particularly don't like the look of the AP2s although I know I'm going to get hurt by people here who just love them lol) Cheers. -
I have always thought the problem with soccer in the U.S. is the fact you don't have time-outs, and it’s not divided into quarters. That makes it less attractive for sponsors to "sponsor" (sorry for the redundancy) since there are less advertisement opportunities. That has kept the sport to get deep into the country, although with time things seem to be changing, most of all, thanks to the woman’s soccer team and imigration (what an irony, isn’t it?). Some might say “Well, but it’s huge in England, Spain, Italy, Argentina, Brazil, etc, and they have the same problem.” The answer is affirmative, but the thing is we (by the way I am South American) grow up with a spirit for soccer, living soccer, eating soccer, sleeping soccer, just as some people in the states do so with Baseball. That is something which is probably not going to change, since soccer has no roots in the U.S. culture (now, don’t start saying they come from English and English have passion for soccer, please), and so its more difficult for it to penetrate their own people. Cheers…

bunkers are ruining golf for me pls help!
xamilo replied to Sandwedge74's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
This might sound weird for some people, but I used to have problems with bunkers until I got a lob wedge and started hitting balls out with it. FOr some reason, the SW didn't seem to give me enough height and I always hit the front tall wall of the bunker and had the ball roll back to my feet. With a LW it has been much much easier for me, so you might want to try it... Cheers -
I'm sorry but I go for the looks hehehe. Chrome looks beautiful, and black its kind of kinky next to your other clubs in the bag (and helps to get the right club easier when you missplace them in your bag). I hate the oil can finish, it just seems horrendous to my taste. Cheers

The first blades I hit were my grandpa’s 15 years old Titleist Forged Blades. When he died, I decided to use one of his blades for commemorative reasons (and because that vintage-blade looks just great), and I packed a 9-iron in my bag. I was expecting every shot to be terrible since I didn’t have the “game improvement” help, but every shot started going straight. Afterward I added an 8-iron, then a 7-iron, and things just seemed to work properly. I’ve been sceptic on the 5-iron since that goes a 50/50, while my G5s go about 80/20. I’ve heard of people combining clubs, something like Mizunos Mp-57 / Mp-32. Any good “combination” recommendations mate?

When I looked at the post I immediately thought “Oh, it would obviously be PING”. Thinking about it, I decided I’m completely biased by the brand, since most of my equipment has been PING since I can remember. I have never hit an Adams, Cleveland (Except for a CG10 Wedge), Nike or Mizuno club in my life, only hit Taylormade drivers and fairway woods, Only hit Cobra’s irons, etc. The fact is I’m sure most people just haven’t “tried” a lot of the equipment out there which might be even better suited for them. I guess some of us just go for the brand we like even before thinking on other possibilities, and in case we find something good otherwise we try to match “our brand” with it. Most of the time, and here I speak for myself, even forgiving more faults than you would not accept in other brand clubs, just because it’s the brand you love. Cheers..

Gosh, I thought I was the only person who had that experience. First time I went to anything regarding golf with my fiancee, she was delighted at all the pink things she could find for golfing. I actually think that's the reason why she keeps playing, to have new pink apparel every year
