  1. This has been my second season of taking golf seriously and I feel like I improved greatly overall. At this time last year, I was a 29.6 and now I am a 23.8. My biggest improvement was my iron game and I owe a lot of it to my My Swing videos on this site. I started to actually hit greens and also have the ability to make sure that if I miss, it's in a good spot. Thanks guys!
  2. First family with PGA, LPGA and Senior Tour champions in the same year .....better start shaving that 23 HDCP down
  3. Am I really THAT screwed? Second child coming in April.... BTW 23 HDCP, Drive about 230-240 and right around the 100 round mark I would guess. I've played 70 rounds in the past 2 1/2 years where I took the game seriously but probably played about 30 rounds as a kid where my Dad tried to get me into it and I showed little promise and was shooting in the 130's (and probably STILL cheating too)
  4. RBZ Stage 2 3W at 15 degrees and xhot hybrid at 16 seem close but the 3W is such a beast there's still a solid 15 yard gap (215-220 vs 200-205)
  5. Loft gapping is overrated (especially if you haven't had them checked) Distance is king. I have a 23* 4h that goes about 185 and my 16* hybrid only goes about 200-205 but I love the feel and the confidence it gives me. I could get a 3h for that 195-190 distance but I decided to stick with the extra wedge.
  6. Started the season at 29, finished at 23.8. Very pleased with my progress. Still haven't broken 90 but I had 2 91's and 9 hole rounds of 44 and 46. Ball striking has improved immensely, but next year I need to keep up on my short game practice. While the me of last summer would be ecstatic over these scores, I look back at those rounds and still see room for improvement. Both 91's had a lost ball and multiple 3 putts on the back 9. Next summer is going to be tough golf wise since kid #2 is due in April, so my goal will be to just maintain in the low 20's. 3 year goal is to get below a 20. I have faith that I'll break 90 sooner or later. Another goal that I'm close to achieving is to par every hole at my home course at least once (Pelham Bay Course in The Bronx,NY). As of last weekend I have parred 15 of 18 holes. Still need to conquer #5, #7 and #13.
  7. Thought the season was over but managed to play 9 this morning. Shot a solid 46 (1 3 putt, NO LOST BALLS!) to drop to 23.8!
  8. Added an RBZ 4 iron which I only really use as a driving iron off the tee. It goes about 190 which is in between my 16 degree and 23 degree hybrids which go about 200 give or take and 180 respectively. It works out well because while I love my hybrids off the ground, I have troue hooking them off the tee. The 4i is still a work in progress off the turf (thinking off putting in the shaft of an extra 5i I have) it's great off the tee for short tight par 4holes and long par 3s.
  9. Drove my first par 4 green this summer! (2 putt for birdie) SwingbySwing said it was 265...slightly downhill
  10. Sorry @onthehunt526 it's been a few days. i have old school AP1 irons starting at 5i which is 26 degrees and goes 170-175. And yes the 20 degree iron is for long 3s and short 4s. I put this setup into play late into the season and had good results but who knows what will come from winter tinkering at the heated range/simulator.
  11. I think the sad part of this 2 party system is that most of us want basically the same thing but are turned against each other based on unreliable propognda socially I am liberal without a doubt. People who are for wasting money on the drug war and who are against gay marriage baffle me. economically it is more complicated but for me it boils down to this: yes I think there are gaps in the system where people on welfare are skating by without finding work and taking a few extra thousand off the government than they should. This should be fixed. However, this is peanuts compared to the amount that US corporations put in offshore accounts or the amount the goveremt was charged with subsidizing said companies post bailout. Us middle class folk are the backbone of the country, however we are split as far as placing the blame and that will be our downfall. I think it lies more with the upper class and corporate America but that's just me and I can be convinced otherwise. I just know that we are headed in the wrong direction and the middle class is shrinking.
  12. This kind of makes sense. That's why I would mainly keep it as a driving iron of sorts
  13. Well the 4 iron is 3 degrees stronger and I tend to be a high ball hitter so the hybrid might be losing some potential distance, while the 4 iron is a more piercing ball flight. This is also with a limited sample size.
  14. I was wondering if anyone has ever bagged an iron thats longer than a hybrid in their bag. I have a mess of long clubs and have been toying with different setups. Im thinking the following: 16* Hybrid XHot Pro (200 yards) 20* RBZ "4 iron" (190 yards) 23* Cobra S3 Max Hybrid (180 yards) Yes the hybrids are both much easier to hit consistently off the turf but I like having the long iron for the tee. I guess I would be using it as mainly a driving iron and off the turf if I'm feeling confident. I know the correct answer is to probably just get a 20* hybrid but my wifes getting pretty sick of golf club sized boxes showing up at our door. Anyone want to weigh in?
  15. Picked up a used Callaway XHot Pro 16* Hybrid a few weeks ago. I don't fancy myself a "better player" but I tend to hook my hybrids and the Pro model was just what the doctor ordered. I will probably drop my 3 wood for this baby. It's probably only 10 yards shorter off the tee but sooooo easy to hit and pretty straight for a 200+ yd club
  16. I feel like some people are splitting hairs here. I can't hit my 3W well enough off the turf to attempt it in a round (yet) so I guess you COULD consider that a second driver....or not. Who really cares?
  17. I was already making some progress when this thread started, but I began this season on April 15 with a 29.6 handicap and my goal was to get below 25. I'm pretty sure I am done for the year after today (44 on 9 from the back!) and I have ended the season at 24.6. I consider this a mission accomplished!

    Tee shots

first tee=Take it easy, just get it in the fairway (quiet lower body, pull hook) second tee=OK, that didn't work. Go at it. (Turn hips too far, get stuck, push fade) Third tee=Thank God this is a Par 3
  19. I'll start by saying that I haven't gotten to tournament golf yet, but coming from a wrestling/MMA/rugby background I am WAY less nervous before a round of golf that I was in my prior athletic conquests, but in a way I kind of WANT to be nervous about it. I think that feeling of nerves if good, cause it means you care. Sometimes (OK MOST of the time) I hack it up, but nothing feels better than BEING nervous and conquering it. I know people say you will play better if you don't pay attention to score, but I like knowing that I need a certain score to break 100 and being successful. I remember reading something from @iacas about "enjoying pressure" and I would like to think that I exemplify that but I'm obviously not good enough of a golfer yet....some day.
  20. June 30th I shot a 91, my personal best and shot another one the next week. On July 30th, I shot a 116 on the same course that I shot the first 91. This was due to $h@nkitis. I had developed a decent draw but was hitting TOO in to out. I made some adjustments and am MOSTLY sh@nk free but am starting to hit more of a gentle fade. Not the worst thing in the world but I am somewhat of a short hitter and really liked the extra 5 or so yds I was getting with the draw (150 vs 145 7i)
  21. I like my high iron shots but want to lower my driver and hybrids to get more roll.
  22. The funny thing about the Top Flite XL set is that it goes from a 42* 9i to just one wedge which is 50*. I have used that as my GW while using 46,54 and 58 degree Cleveland Wedges. I'm actually dropping it this weekend and experimenting with a 4i. I think that fact that it is different than the rest of my wedges is why I really don't mind dropping it. My 54 is my 80 yds and in club and I love it, 58 is only for specialty shots and steep bunkers. A full PW is 115 and I'm decent at partial wedge shots so I don't think I'll miss the GW too much.
  23. I have an RBZ 3W but I only use it off the tee so I don't think you can really call it a "Fairway" wood in my hands. I used to have a 5W but the RBZ 3H goes further and has more manageable misses so that was a no brainer as my "longest off the turf club" (200-215 or so)
  24. Started off this season at 6i and am now at 4i I've been really mulling over this part of my bag lately. Two years ago when I started and had a shitty swing, I was all about hybrids and carried various 3-4-5 hybrids (sometimes replacing the 3 with a 5w). As my iron swing has improved (a big reason being my MySwing Thread...thanks guys) my higher lofted hybrids began to hook BADLY and especially off the tee for some reason (4h is cobra s3 max and 5h WAS callaway Diablo Edge). I got an AP1 5i off Ebay for $6.50 and the thing is a total beast (its also stiff and my other irons are regular so that might be a factor) I then decided to go one step further and got an RBZ 4i (20 degrees) and try it out. I've only hit it on the range but it seems to go a tad further than 4i on good hits but MUCH less consistent off ground. Off the tee though, the 4i is absolute money so I'm gonna keep it for now as a driving iron. The problem is, my 4h although hookish off the tee is pretty solid in bad lies and when I'm 185 out. I'm playing this sunday at course with a few short tight par 4s and long par 3s where the 4i could definitely be used. To make room, I'm taking out my gap wedge. For my handicap I'm pretty decent with partial wedge swings so I'm not too worried about that but still feel weird carrying D, 3W, 3H, 4i (20*)-4H(23*) at the top end. It is glad to see that I'm not alone in tinkering with this area of the bag though...thanks guys!
  25. Short Par 5 about 460 slight dog leg left, with a blind second shot over a ridge/fairway bunker. Drove it about 245 with 215 to the pin. I've been playing par 5s very conservatively lately and have been scoring well (for my handicap). I just got an original AP1 5i for $6.50 on eBay (in GREAT condition) and figured I would use it to lay up. My 6i goes 160 and my 4h about 185 so I was expecting something along the lines of 175 and a nice 40 yd pitch. I absolutely crush it (kinda a flier lie in the first cut) drive up over the ridge and can't find my ball.....until I look at the green. According to GPS I hit my 5i 217 yds!!!! This club was clutch throughout the day, going straight and in the 170-180 range I needed it to be on other holes. ....2 putted for birdie btw. Still shot a 107 :(
