Does anyone else have a backup putter?
GaijinGolfer replied to PathToThePGA's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I like brass putters, so I have a few brass putters just because they arent really made anymore. For the most part, every time I come across a brass Mizuno putter on Ebay thats in good shape I pick it up because they are somewhat hard to find. -
It always amazes me how people can get so worked up about things that are said on an internet forum. Ive said plenty of things that people have disagreed with. Ive said rude things to people and had rude things said to me. You know what? Who cares. I couldnt imagine ever thinking Im so important as to post a thread whining about the things that people said to me on this forum or any other. Seriously, no one cares.

I use a similar golf simulator during the winter months. Its pretty cool but the putting will drive you crazy. I always set gimmies to as generous as the simulator will allow, usually 10 feet because putting on those things will make you want to give up the game.

If you use quality components and you dont care about brand name, its worth it. Not to mention it would be kind of cool to assemble your own clubs. Youve got to figure how much youd save on not having to pay for someone to assemble your clubs for you and what youre not paying for some big brand name. About snapping the shaft of your clubs, Ive sold name brand clubs (Nikes and always clubs with graphite shafts) on Ebay and a few weeks later got a message from the buyer stating they snapped one of the shafts, supposedly the first time they used them, so that problem isnt limited to clones. Luckily for me, Ebay only requires that clubs show up in the condition the seller described them, so the buyer was on their own the instant they took the clubs out of the box.

GPS watch or handheld?
GaijinGolfer replied to Davie81's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Ive always liked the idea of a GPS watch. It just seems so much easier to just glace at your wrist than to have to reach into your pocket, into your golf bag or have to fiddle around inside of the cart for your GPS. -
Id chalk this up as, "who cares?" Gulbis isnt all that pretty anyways and whens the last time she won a golf tournament? Its time for her to go away, be a housewife and pop out a few kids.

Typically - do you take a FULL practice swing before every shot ?
GaijinGolfer replied to inthehole's topic in Golf Talk
I dont do a full swing, I just go a half swing, trying to get the right feel through and making sure that Im rolling my arms and having the back of my left hand facing the target at impact. Moment of impact is all that really matters anyways. -
68 degrees in Ohio yesterday. I was great but it was weird. I grew up in Wisconsin and lived there until I was 32. I honestly couldnt remember very many years where we did have snow for Christmas, so to have it be almost 70 degrees a few days before Christmas is very strange to me.

Those of you that think Tiger is on steroids....
GaijinGolfer replied to Valleygolfer's topic in Tour Talk
I dont think he is on 'roids now but I do believe that in his hayday, when he was buff Tiger that he was on 'roids. There was a time when Tiger was pretty big in terms of his arms and shoulders. Even then, I dont really care much. Just like with other sports, Im sure most players probably do 'roid but I just dont really care. -
Too Steep. will this help or hurt?
GaijinGolfer replied to KyleAnthony's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Too steep is never a good thing and its something you should try to fix. I suggest seeking the help of a good instructor to figure out why youre steep. -
Lob Wedge - Is it only useful in expert hands?
GaijinGolfer replied to Skenny's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The lob wedge is just like any other club: you need to practice with it order to figure out how to use it properly. Im a 20ish handicap and my lob wedge is one of my favorite clubs because its so versatile and useful for short little shots around the green. -
golf gloves wear out too soon
GaijinGolfer replied to golf55's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Id say you are gripping the club wrong. If its wearing out on the upper part of the palm, you are gripping too high up on the club. I play 2-3 times a week and the glove I currently have is almost a year old and is just starting to show signs of wear. -
Is anyone else here crazier enough to play in 10 degree weather?
GaijinGolfer replied to tlstarkk's topic in Golf Talk
Ive played golf when the temps were in the teens. Its really not that bad. -
Usually 2-3. It depends how Im hitting the ball that day though.

Id be leary of some of those Ebay sellers because most of them are overpriced. The best that Ive ever found is Golf Store Europe. They ship to the U.S. and their prices are fair. Currently, they have the new MP-As priced at $180 and you will probably pay about $20 for shipping. Id post the link for you but this site wont allow me to, so just do a Google search for, "Golf Store Europe" and it should come right up.

I call Ohio State, "Ohio" because I think its funny that Ohio fans get all bent out of shape about it. My main argument against people who say Ohio is deserving is style points. If you want to be considered a top team, you need to bury average teams and Ohio hasnt done that. They barely beat Northwestern and Wisconsin and even against some of the worst teams in the B1G, they didnt win comfortably and it wasnt until the final minutes of the game that they sealed the deal. When you struggle against Iowa, you arent a BCS championship team.

Warmest sweater for winter
GaijinGolfer replied to mazza78's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I really like my Mizuno Windlite. Ive got one that Ive had for about 5 years now and its still by far the warmest sweater I own. I really like that it has a liner on the inside that keeps the wind from blowing through it. -
Opinions on 14 slot bags
GaijinGolfer replied to srguthrie's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I like bags with 14 dividers. I find that it makes it easier to keep my clubs organized and it keeps my clubs from rattling around as much. 6-divider bags are fine but once youve had a 14-divider bag, youd never go back. -
Lets also not forget Notre Dame last season. They were ranked #1 because they were unbeaten, even though they didnt really beat anyone and when it got to the moment of truth in the BCS championship game, they got rolled. IMO, Ohio this season is much like Notre Dame was last season. Unbeaten, yes but who have they beaten who is really any good? Northwestern? Wisconsin? Those are both quality programs but are no Alabama. Until Ohio beats a team that is at least ranked in the top 10, they dont deserve to be any higher than #4. IMO, a 1-loss SEC team is still better than an unbeaten B1G team. If you are going to use the logic that unbeaten means you are the best, then I guess Northern Illinois should be #3.

Anyone else find it easier to hit blades?
GaijinGolfer replied to dwade247's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Ive never found it easier to hit blades but blades are certainly much more satisfying when struck well. Having said that, Ive tried blades and I still play cavity backs. Golf is hard enough already, no sense in making it even harder with blades. -
Theres plenty to keep me entertained during the off-season. Watching hockey, playing hockey at the local rink, March Madness, hitting up the local golf dome, golf simulator and putting practice on the living room carpet. For me, the off-season is a nice time to recharge the batteries and prevent myself from getting burnt-out on golf.

Miura Japan and Miura USA
GaijinGolfer replied to golfwithatwist's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
A lot of people are in love with the prestige of the Miura name. Theyre very good irons but Im not a fan of the fact that they arent a true 1-piece forged iron. The hosels are spin welded and IMO that effects the feel. -
SEC fans are riding high right now. They were envious of the Big Ten for decades and now that they are on top, they are enjoying every second of it and rub it in every chance they get. I would advise any fan to be careful how much they talk because everything is cyclical and eventually the SEC will be irrelevant again. I personally dont agree with the B1G and Pac-12 champion getting an automatic bid to play in the Rose Bowl. IMO, #3 and #4 should play in the rose bowl but Im not the one who makes the rules.

You cant help but laugh at internet golfers who think they need an XX-stiff.
