Whew, that was much harder than it needed to be.

My points were not destroyed, you didn't like them. My point about time, money, desire and a little ability is that those qualities are all it takes to play adequate golf, takes something else to play any other major sport. I know golfers much better than me who have none of the other elements I mentioned, 80 yr old men. It ain't that hard although I concede it's harder than horseshoes or bowling. And your attempted insult again a miss, I've always considered myself a hacker, and I've oft written about it here. Although it's undeniable that I'm amongst a pretty select few (million) who play this game. And given that, it just ain't that hard.
-
Easier than other sports, yes. Can't say it about basketball, hockey, football or even baseball, which require other elements that most golfers don't possess such as size, speed, strength, agility, etc. You don't need any of those traits to be an adequate golfer, although all can help to some degree. Because I happen to fall within the top 10 or 15% of all golfers worldwide based on hcap, I don't tend to pat myself on the back about it cuz I think many others could do it with time, money and desire. Again, that simply is not the case with other sports.

All my fans came out of their hovels for this one. Lol

I guess I've accomplished the goal of coming up with an unpopular opinion. Even got a snide comment from our site owner, yessir! Never beat a touring pro and not saying that I ever could but I play regularly with a teaching pro and yes, I beat him 10 to 20% of the time we play. There is no other sport on the planet where I could compete with anyone at a professional level. The "golf is hard" mantra was made up by people who have no ability and egotistical golf pros. It just ain't that tough, evidenced by the millions and millions who play to a single digit handicap.
-
I don't agree. And, I didn't see a counter to the rest of my argument. DJ could not beat 1 NBA player 1 on 1; however, Steph Marbury might beat him 1 or 2 times out of 10 on the golf course. Similarly, not one golfer could hit a HR off John Smoltz, but he may beat a tour player some percentage of the time, hell, if it's Bowditch, I'd give Smoltzie about a 50/50 shot. Many millions of people can play professional-level golf (perhaps not consistently), I've beat golf pros and I'm not that good. Not true with any other sport.
-
In my view, if there are hundreds of thousands of people capable of rising to the level of professional in a sport, that, almost by definition, classifies it as not hard. Just because a pro football player can't play golf doesn't make it hard. I know of no pro golfer who could aspire to a professional level in any other sport (although there may be a couple). Plenty of other athletes have moved from their sport to become pro golfers or at least good enough to compete with pros. It ain't that hard if you have time and money, desire and passion tinged with some athletic ability. None of those drivers would allow Rory to become a pro soccer player.

Glad to see a few support my long-time view that golf is not that hard. It's the easiest of all the big sports. Consider that there are probably a couple hundred thousand active professional golfers in the world. What other sport could boast that?

In, although I too have never participated in a fantasy league. What the hell. Thanks for the heads-up!

I spent some time in Manila and Cabanatuan a few years ago, managing a BPO. As I recall, Bagio is up in the mountains, supposed to beautiful. Welcome aboard.

Played it twice, both my shots went over the shed, one a rip, the other a couple days later a weak push fade, both playable (although I doubled each time). Never saw a ball come anywhere near the roof of the hotel. Although, my buddy sliced one off the Russacks on 18 and it bounced back into fairway...that was some crazy luck. Old Tom must have been watching.

Clubheads are cleaned before or after a shot, no particular routine but I won't hit a shot with dirty clubhead. Full cleaning to include grips about 2 or 3 times a year. Grip cleaning is key. Extends the life of the grip. I feel like I'm playing with new grips for a couple rounds after I do it. But yes, it's time consuming and a workout but well worth it.

Because I know them? Mmm, maybe not. In return for services? Perhaps.

I, like some others, use my shadow as a tool during my practice swing. Never bothers me once I'm over the ball.

A rare, true American hero. RIP sir.

How many three-putts (or more) did you have today?
Gunther replied to woodzie264's topic in Golf Talk
I'm trying to figure the math here. If you were on 8 greens in reg and had 6 one-putts, that's 6-under. 2-putt the other 2 GIRs, that's -6 after 8. In order to shoot +5, with another 2-putt, you got on that hole in 13 and took a 15? EDIT: disregard, missed the 0 GIR line. I guess "n GIR" means near the green. My bad. -
Which iron is 100 yards shorter than driver carry distance?
Gunther replied to golfdu's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
8 or 9 for me too, 130-150. -
This sounds fascinating. Had an opportunity to visit my hometown traffic center at city hall once and it completely amazed me. Every traffic light in the city was monitored with gauges everywhere. Quite a few lights in town really suck and make no sense and I think I could figure it all out just from my driving experience in the town alone but I'm sure there's a helluva lot more to it than I could surmise.

Aha. No, could never adjust to that although I've tried it. You'd think because I'm a southpaw, that would be kinda comfortable for me, especially cuz I used to switch-hit in baseball, but no, I'm strictly a righty golfer and left over right feels odd. I know a number of folks who do it, none better putters than I.

There is no credible data that supports this statement. The earth is not warming, indeed, recent studies have shown it may be cooling which would be far more devastating to the planet. You know where I stand, I've posted 2 or 3 articles in this thread and others (there are hundreds of others out there) that shine a spotlight on the data falsification that NASA and NOAA have engaged in. There's the East Anglia fraud scheme, and the 97% of scientists believe in AGW hoax (not even close to that). As I have said, if AGW were in fact legit, there would be no need for the data manipulation and fraud that is legion around this field of study. There are other deleterious effects man creates for the planet so we must be judicious but global warming isn't among them.

Yes, right hand low. I use a single interlock on my other clubs (left index between right pinkie and right 3rd) and a double interlock on the putter (left index between 3rd and middle). Is that not a double interlock?
-
Humans affect the earth, they do not affect the earth's temperatures.
-
Yes, this is what I do, not a double overlap as I mentioned earlier. Furyk does it with all his clubs but I only do it with my putter.
