  1. The bigger issue is going to be the PGA in May over the next several years with a bunch of Northern courses on the schedule (Bethpage next year). If there is another late Spring like this year, it’s going to be make things really hard on some superintendents to have things ready by early/mid May. Inevitably there will be some issues and the PGA will need to gravitate to southern courses and leave the northern ones for the US open.
  2. For the record, this is a straw man argument that would get called out vehemently on this board if it were made by a "pro-Jack" guy. I am pretty solidly in the Tiger=GOAT camp at this point and don't feel like participating in this thread anymore, but just had to point out this double standard.
  3. I think Faldo is pretty good at his job. He makes decently funny comments mixed with some good insight and he doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously anymore.
  4. If they do it in a relatively courteous manner, then I'm OK with it. Try to defuse a situation before it gets worse and a marshal has to step in. I would rather the caddie say something than the player I suppose.
  5. I'm all for good manners. I don't condone the actions of these idiots we hear at pro events, but I think they should be dealt with by marshals and not the players themselves.
  6. Well if Tiger and Phil have both blown it the next best thing is a potential Rory-Reed-Spieth-DJ duel on Sunday.
  7. I was say not-guilty but I can see the inconclusive argument. I don't think he did anything to improve his lie because I think his ball was in the fairway and his club was grounded in the rough, and matted down the rough a bit. But the actual piece of dirt his ball was resting in (his lie) was not impacted. He improved his ability to make clean contact with the ball (intentionally or non intentionally) but not his actual lie.
  8. I would agree that we haven't seen enough of Tiger's A game at this point to have any real context on where it stacks up relative to the top players. My hunch is that the 'new' Tiger A game is not going to win a horse race where the winning score is 20 under. I think his wins may come in tough, grind it out tournaments where his experience and grit can carry him a long ways. With that said, I think if/when he wins more majors, the Open Champ. is probably his bet. Not to count him out anywhere else though.
  9. It’s probably premature but I’m starting to feel like Spieth might be to Augusta what Rafa Nadal is/was at the French open. I think he could win a boat load of green jackets.
  10. Emotional eating or because you would lose a bet? :/
  11. Good to see Hoffman continuing his run of what seems like 10 straight Masters atop the leaderbaord early on.
  12. Yea I agree that the back nine is better but probably not by as much as the media might make you believe. I think part of the bias is just based on the fact that until not too long ago, television coverage didn’t even start until the back nine so no one (without being there) ever saw the front nine. The back nine has the great combination of scoreability, photogenic holes, nostalgia, and drama potential.
  13. 5 under through 7 now for Phil. Pretty impressive stuff
  14. I've had to eat crow re: Rory before but I don't see this happening. I don't think he's comfortable around Augusta and I would look to one of the perennial Augusta blue bloods (Tiger, Phil, Bubba, Spieth, Rose) to be the much more likely scenario IMO.
  15. Obviously plenty can/will change in the forecast between now and then but it's looking like the weekend could be dealing with some wet/windy/stormy weather. Hopefully weather doesn't end up playing a big factor in the tournament but we'll see. Looks like those of you who have Monday and Tuesday practice round tickets are in for some great weather- mid 80s and sunny.
  16. I'm just hopeful that this Masters lives up to the hype. The stars appear to be aligning for a great weekend but you never know when a Danny Willett or Steward Cink (no offense to him) can come along and ruin the story line
  17. Good to see Augusta upping their game a bit on scalpers...sadly as long as someone can buy (win) a lottery tickets for $65 and sell it for $1,000+, people will find a way. http://www.golf.com/tour-news/2018/03/27/masters-tickets-looking-buy-or-sell-pre-owned-tickets-buyers-and-sellers-beware IMO the easiest/most effective way to get around this is to have people show ID when entering the tournament. Each group of tickets (2 or 4) will be in the name of the individual that won them in the lotto and that person must be in attendance in addition to their 1 or 3 guests. It would slow the entry process a decent amount but if done correctly the end result would significantly reduce (not eliminate) scalping opportunities.
  18. That’s what I was assuming but doesn’t really seem like an appropriate comment for the 70s. 1965 and before, yea, but I think by the 70s it was more of a global field/stage. Anyways not trying to split hairs, it just seemed like an odd comment.
  19. Huh? Weird comment. I’m guessing most folks in the 70s played against the best players in the world at the time. That group of best players was weaker in quality and quantity than today’s group of best players but I’m not sure I understand this comment.
  20. Yea I would say Monty is not a great comp to Bubba since Monty had a boat load of euro tour wins and no majors. Their resumes look a lot different. A more appropriate comp might be someone like Freddie who got in with 15/1 (I think I have those #s right). If 11/2 is bubba’s record (I didn’t discount discount the silly season wins previously) then yea, I would agree with others that he probably needs a few more wins and/or one more major to be a lock. Freddie arguably/partially got in based on popularity. I think it’s safe to say that won’t happen for Bubba.
  21. In age of (relative) parity on tour where it’s really hard to rack up a bunch of wins, Bubba’s record of 13 wins/ 2 majors is probably sufficient for the HoF. It used to be more of a 20/2 bar but that seems to be dropping off quite a bit in recent years.
  22. This would be my guess. It looks to me like the Valspar will be the biggest casualty of this schedule. Hard to say what the net effect on the API will be. My guess would be Tiger consistently chooses the API over the Honda and this in turn could re-elevate the API a bit and get other players to follow suit. Hard to say.
  23. Rory at 10/1 odds trails only Tiger at 8/1. Rory looked really good last week, but I'm still not convinced he's comfortable at all on Augusta's greens. I would say the same for DJ also at 10/1. I've been wrong before though so we'll see. Phil at 18/1 seems a bit under-priced to me considering how well he's playing this year but he is fighting history a bit at this point with his age.
  24. Just out of curiosity what does he say that is incorrect? I’m not saying he has never said incorrect things but I can’t think of any off the top of my head. I think he’s opinionated but mostly fair and lends decent perspective.
  25. I'm fairly indifferent to Reed (except the RC where I love him) but I don't think he meant this in a mean spirited way at all. I think he's just not very good at making jokes.
