  1. My HCP and numbers are similar to yours and I find that playing from the fairway helps a lot, so I'm working on accuracy. If you miss the fairway by a lot that other 65% of the time - work on accuracy. On other hand if your missed GIR is just off the green it won't hurt as much as if you're in the junk. If you're missing the green and getting into a lot of trouble - work on your approach shots. At our level we need to work on the whole game but concentrate on your "worse" miss first. Cheers
  2. Being long and in the middle is great, if not unique. Being long and playable can be great with a good/great short game. Being long and wrong is pointless. From his video I would say that RHPM is not in the long and wrong category. Good goin'
  3. I can second this - happened to me "almost" to the Sir Charles point . What worked for me was making swings with NO head movement. Another thing that might work for you is trying (on the range) to hit snap hooks, not big swings but exaggerating rolling your wrists and then slowing backing off on the wrist action. I've felt your pain - it won't last forever! Good Luck
  4. I think a person can definitely "play too much". Many times trying to practice during a round leads to rushing and not concentrating on the shot they're trying to practice (not to mention - pace of play issues). I say save the practicing for the range and short game area. I have seen a few players try to put in a long practice session on the range and then back it up with playing a round but then fatigue becomes an issue. Whether playing or practicing the point is improving and enjoying. Cheers
  5. Try to play with players of varying HCPs - it will make you better. And don't be so sure of that guy hating being paired up with you, he may well make good use of playing with a high HCP. Just remember use good golf ettiquette, play with good pace and most of all enjoy yourself. Most of the time people will enjoy playing with you. Good luck.
  6. Exactly if I hit a 150yd SW - but the ball would never be more than 10ft off the ground.
  7. Tell me this is not the same friend that was improving his lie in the bunker.
  8. Finish with your chest and belt buckle facing the target. Cheers
  9. Stop that RIGHT now - enjoy it. Cheers
  10. Sounds like a real "peach". Hope you spanked him.
  11. Lots of turkeys (even some of the feathered variety).
  12. Stating the obvious here but something that many people forget or overlook. As you improve your game from a 30 HCP to a 20 HCP the "aha moments" happen often and from a 20 to 10 less often and from 10 to scratch even less. People often think that they're not improving but if they stop to think about that chip shot / mid iron shot / drive or putt that they just couldn't pull off is now something that doesn't seem to bother them so much - that's improvement. Patience/practice and playing (often) = Improvement Cheers
  13. I don't remember if it was Jack or some top instructor saying it but what it amounted to was "hitting the ball straight is the hardest shot in golf". That doesn't mean you shouldn't try and obviously if you've went from slicing to drawing/hooking you've made adjustments that have worked. The only players that I have played with that are consistently straight are mostly senior golfers with slower swing speeds.
  14. Either of these 2 approaches seem to work for me when I start to rush through the ball. Some people seem to like the idea of "this is plenty of club so I'll swing easy" and others like " I'm going to hit this club the distance I know I can control". Try both and see which one you like. Good luck.
  15. Looks like a good solid plan. Fighting the urge to "go for it" on every shot will probably help your score. Of course you have to try to let yourself go for the hero shot every once in a while. Good luck
  16. That's why they say this game is 90% mental!!!
  17. Congrats - now set your sights on the next - Breaking 90. Remember don't get down on yourself if your progress is not linear, there's a lot of ups & downs (pun intended)
  18. So should the officials reviewing the issue. I like Kenny Perry but it sure looked like he improved his lie. Maybe his "nice guy" image helped him a bit.
  19. What you said. If you ever find the key to consistency, bottle it and sell it at the 1st and 10th tees. You'll be one rich dude!
  20. I was going to say the same thing - looks like little or no turn (just the shoulders). Hard to maintain lag that way.
  21. There have been a lot of good suggestions posted here. What it seems to boil down to is: after your game is at a certain point (mid/low HCP) improvements come in smaller and smaller increments. Which means unless you have a glaring weakness (but then you wouldn't be mid/low HCP) you have to work on all parts of your game. That's why the lower the HCP the harder to lower the HCP. For me it's trying to avoid doubles and others . Cheers
  22. Here's to the "old" guys remembering Jack. We may never know who's the greatest but one thing I can say is that the players of today wouldn't feel one bit better about looking in the rear view mirror and seeing Jack (in his prime) make a run at them. With both Jack and Tiger intimidation IS the 15th club.
  23. A couple of really important things about playing a round after lessons. 1.) Don't try to "tweak" what you're learning during the round. Just stick with it. and 2.) Don't get discouraged when it takes time to bring it to the course. Sounds like you're on your way - Good Luck!!!
  24. Those are some pretty good numbers - Congrats. It looks like putting is where you could improve your # of birdies and as we all know PRACTICE is key (both putting and reading greens). Keep up the good work - you'll get there.
  25. Because the truth hurts. Cheers
