How did you get started in golf and how old were you?
The Slapper replied to oreodawg1's topic in Golf Talk
I was 14 years of age, and I'm almost 51 now. My father started me out in a league. The best part was I was just 14 and I was playing every Sunday with grown men. Put it this way, it was excellent exposure at age 14! -
Last summer I stepped up to a Par 4 dog leg right and I hit a perfect tee shot leaving me just about 60 yards out for my pitch shot left in to the Green. There was no doubt the pitch shot to the pin was on target, it went dead straight with a couple of bonces and short roll right in. It was a sweet Eagle.

I'm starting to get chubby. In order to continue to play half decent golf, I better drop about 20 pounds, otherwise I will be bigger than Craig Stadler and John Daly

Golf can be an obsession in terms of equipment, so my worse bargain this past offseason was stock piling several boxes of Golf Balls. I over did it ten fold...duh.

I've recently upgraded from an old set of Ping Eye2 irons to Ping G30's. I've read that the improvement will be substantial, but I'll have to wait and see about that.

Most Pros have a swing routine....they take 2 practice swings and then step up and take the shot right away. A Pro told me while I was standing over the ball too long and over-thinking what to do before a shot that I was making a mistake. He told me to take 1 or 2 practice swings and then step-up and take the shot. In other words, don't think too much just before you swing at the ball.

Good for you, sir. For a Slapper like myself, when a fairway shot gets to be over 190 yards I find it difficult. This year I'm hoping to improve this sort of Golf shot with a Ping I25 fairway wood.

what is your go to shot from 100 yards in the fairway?
The Slapper replied to onthehunt526's topic in Golf Talk
So many answers to this question...... mine is the full-swing gap wedge, which is especially good for a slapper like myself. -
Oops, I should include the following quote with my entry: PING is going to help me be fast and forgiving with the new G Driver and Crossover!

Certain pieces of equipment you just can't do without. Not wearing Golf Shoes would be like missing my entire set of irons in the bag......gotta have them!

This is the other one that is very similar. It says it is made of the "finest Cabretta leather," and Titleist is correct about this. IMO, you get what you pay for in a golf glove. These Titleist gloves are the most expensive to choose from but when you put this glove to a new grip you know you have a sweet piece of equipment on your hands. I keep them in the pouch that comes with the glove in order to preserve it.

That's a sweet glove to put on your hand. Best glove I've ever worn.

Each to their own I supoose, but I would tend to hoist a couple AFTER the game, not during.

My bet is the guy was just the rude sort that only thought of himself when he took off without shaking hands. I know things like that can get annoying but don't let it bother you too much. You know what they say, "People are strange."

I grew up listening to my father drool over Jack Nicklaus, so of course I'm totally biased to answer such a question. One time when I was about 16 years of age at Glenn Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, I recall walking about a thousand yards between the 9th and 10th hole with Jack striding right by my side. I remember trying to keep up with him while he walked hard about a golf club length from my side. Thing I love now is looking up Wiki about Jack Nicklaus. I love reading the sentence that goes, " He is widely regarded as the greatest professional golfer of all time, winning a total of 18 career major championships, while producing 19 second-place and 9 third-place finishes in them, over a span of 25 years. There isn't a soul on this earth that could convince me that Jack wasn't the best Pro Golfer to ever put his hands on a golf club.....he's simply the best.

Just before X-Mas I bought a new set of Ping G30 Irons - 4 to SW. I tell ya, I can't wait to hit a brand new Titleist Pro V with just one of those irons. I've heard really good things about the Mizuno JP's and the MP's you are thinking of purchasing. Before I bought the Pings I struggled between Mizuno's, Titleists or Pings, but being a Ping man most my life I had to go with the brand I was most familiar with. In my opinion, most of the selection decision when it comes to irons boils down to what brand we prefer most, and marketing has a lot to do with what we end up choosing. The one thing I would recommend is getting a professional fitting done. Getting the "lie" adjusted to your swing is pretty important for your irons. Good luck!

Kid hits hole in one at Tiger's designed golf course
The Slapper replied to saevel25's topic in Golf Talk
That's the great thing about Golf, amazing things like that shot can happen. The timing of that hole-in-one is really something else! -
Feel bad for him regarding his receding hair line. He's obviously super-self-conscious about it cuz he can often be seen trying to fix his thinning hair on top. Yikes, and he's only 22.

Join the club, pal. I bring football, golf or even work related topics up with my wife now, and she gets that same look in her eyes that you speak of. Must have something to do with being 20 plus years married. I joined a golf forum because I love the topic of Golf. Golf is perhaps the best sport to play. Hitting an iron 180 plus yards within 10 feet of the pin has to be one the greatest feelings.....just wish I could do it more often.

To the original poster..... Here's my advice to your question: Golf is supposed to be relaxing, something to take your mind off things. Try Yoga. Spread your legs and practice relaxing instead of stressing out.

I started at 14. My son is now 11 years of age and I just bought him a starter set. Sure a child can bang around the ball with a plastic set for a bit of fun, but IMO kids need to stretch out a bit (size wise) in order to start playing on the course with the men. I figure by age 12 or 13 the boy will be able to bang the ball around enough to keep up.

Golf Course Soil Type / Composition - What is your preference?
The Slapper replied to dave s's topic in Golf Talk
To be truthful, I prefer anything at all that isn't hard like concrete underneath. Gimmie a nice grassy lie and I'm good. -
Yikes, our Driving Ranges in Canada are closed from mid-November until mid-April. Look at the bright side, sir.
