game improvement or super game improvement irons
BigUnit68 replied to Johnniz13's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
why would you not take advantage of any help you can get in this difficult game? Especially if you are playing for fun...make the experience of playing as fun as you can and unless you are an above average ballstriker, why would you not give GI/SGI Irons a look? I am a single digit and I would never play blades...I play Taylormade M2's and love the game immensely....more so since I've upgraded to these irons because I am carding lower scores more consistently this year than I have in years. -
Are you sure you're hitting the ball solid on approach shots? How are you not holding greens even with an SGI club? I get back spin on my GI short irons from solid strikes. Never had issues with that. Sure sounds like you could use an updated club/shaft fitting.

I play a GI iron and I'm around 7-8 hcp (mainly because of putting). You don't "need" a players iron but if you did not get fitted for your current set or you haven't for awhile, I would do that way before settling on a specific iron. Make sure the indian is right before blaming the arrow.

Hard to determine with the lack of information given...but if you are a high cap, you likely don't have great ball striking skills, right? You may want to go with GI irons....He11, I'm an 8 and play GI irons. i wouldn't dare hit blades, life is too short. LOL.

This. It has to be your swing...at least that is what I would try to fix first. It would be cheaper than switching irons. If you're a high capper it is likely an inconsistent swing that is creating the problem.

I have a Mack Daddy 2 tour grind 58*. Just got it a few weeks ago. Its the only Callaway in the bag but I really like this club. Very versatile.

I have a set of M2 Irons 4-sw and can confirm, the 4i is long and easy to hit.

Stay with steel. Unless you're a senior player with low swing speed, stay away from graphite in Irons.

In and out of clubs as often as I change my underwear
BigUnit68 replied to 9wood's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm the exact opposite. When I find equipment I like I tend to hang onto it. I am a creature of habit and don't like a lot of change. I do know a few guys that also "club-ho". Some are hackers, some are good. I can't justify the constant change and trying to get used to knew clubs all the time. -
Agree with this. Forget trying to work the ball until you're single digit...get some forgiving Irons if you want new sticks. I'm an 8 and just bought TM M2's and they are a GI iron. Love em.

How do you orient your ball when you tee it up?
BigUnit68 replied to onthehunt526's topic in Golf Talk
This. Put in on the tee or on the green however. Makes no difference. -
I could never hit a 3-4 iron off the deck for chit until I bought m2's. Now I have a 4 iron I can hit with confidence and took my 3 hybrid out of the bag because I can hit the 4 iron better and just as far.

Offset in irons help or hindrance to your game?
BigUnit68 replied to Mike Boatright's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Well, I am more of a sweeper (take minimal divot with an iron) and my sticks are offset and I love them. Since I have my new offset clubs I am a MUCH better ball striker. Not sure if that helps or not but going to more offset has helped me a good bit. -
You are most certainly in the minority. I know many who have less coverage, pay more and have a higher deductible... And it's only gonna get worse if not repealed.
-
You're right....except the health care part. ACA is a disaster quit letting the liberal media tell you differently.

Yeah we need a vid or more info but if you are blading and chunking your chips maybe you are swaying too much. I'll tell you what I have always told my son "stay between you feet".... Don't sway out over your feet or problems like you have will appear. But again, more info and a visual will help much better diagnose.

Divider in chief. No matter what your party affiliation, he has no balls and appears weak. I want a president who at least has a set and doesn't bow down to other world leaders. Next....

All good points here. I am an avid lifter and now at age 47 and after having some serious back problems (from an accident, not from lifting) I completely advocate a total body program that focuses on compound lifts. Focusing on the large muscles (legs, back, chest, shoulders) is the best way to create overall strength...and also strengthens your core which is essential. I would be much less confident not only as a person but as a golfer without the strength I've gained from lifting to stay strong and lean.

A lot of great ideas in this thread...just to add, I think you need to keep this game as simple as possible. Keep your swing, your thoughts, etc very elementary so to speak. The less you get in your own way with trying to do too much, the better more consistent you'll play.

You're right about the ease of hitting these types of clubs. I was fitted back in February and couldn't believe how well I hit some of those irons. I settled for TM M2's and it has been a great decision. I am as long and accurate as ever and I am 47 yrs old. It is nice being over 200 out and knowing you can pull a long iron and have the confidence to hit the green. Played 3 times with them so far and am about 1 1/2 clubs longer than my prior set and more accurate Hope your fitting goes as well as mine did and you get the right set up for you. This game is much better when you have the right equipment to match your swing.

Yes because they are so forgiving but if you are just getting back into it you may want get your swing straightened out first....then go get fitted and see if they are right for you.

My son and I both have M2's. He's a 14 and I'm an 8. We both love them. I don't have any issues thusfar with the lofts or loft gaps in the lower irons. I do agree, higher caps would benefit from these clubs because of how easy they are to hit. My strength has always been my short game and weakness was long irons and ball striking...that weakness is not nearly as evident anymore as I seem to really be able to hit all these irons well. So i don't think you have to have a higher handicap to benefit from having these.
