  1. Finally I have found the driver that is perfect for me. My journey has been long and arduous and expensive. I've tried a lot of different drivers.. R7 Superquad, Callaway FTi, Hibore XLS, and R9 just to name a few. This years R9 was a mistake. Not saying it's a bad club but for whatever reason (probably the shaft), it just wasn't for me. It felt a little stiff for my swing speed and try as I might, I just could never get comfortable with it. Having given up on my R9 a couple of weeks ago, I went back to my trusty Cleveland Hibore XLS which, while not perfect, is pretty reliable for me. But the other day I cracked and purchased the Adams Speedline 9032 and I couldn't be happier. This is the perfect driver for me. It has it all... looks, feel, sound, and performance. Even the headcover is attractive and extremely easy to put on and take off. I am happy to report that their advertising claim appears to be true as it seems about 10 yds longer than my other drivers. This is the nicest "feeling" and "sounding" club I have ever owned. I think it is the quietest driver I've ever heard. The ball just explodes off the clubface and that aldila voo doo shaft is as sweet as butter. You do feel like you are swinging faster. I don't think it is quite as closed as my Hibore so I was struggling a little bit with a fade but I had it worked out by the end of the round. Since I was mostly concerned wiith straightening it out, I didn't try to work the ball either way. I'm a short hitter so getting an extra 10 yds on my drives means a lot. Finally I can end my search for the perfect driver (for me). This one is staying in the bag. Cannot wait to go out again tomorrow. If you've been considering trying or buying this club, I recommend you go out and give it a few swings.
  2. I have the xls with the gold shaft in both a 10.5 degree and a 12 degree. I love the club and despite it being offset by quite a bit compared to my other drivers, I can work the ball both ways with it. The only thing I don't like is the sound. I'm currently gaming the new Speedline but I speak highly of the Hibore XLS.
  3. There are FYbrid hybrids (5h, 4h, 3h), the FYbrid itself which is a gap club between your hybrids and woods, and the the FYbrid woods (5w and 3w). They are all nice clubs. Basically they are saying you will get a regular gap between your clubs if your purchase the entire FYbrid line, which makes sense. I have the FYbrid and the FYbrid 3w. The FYbrid (the gap club) is my go-to club. It's really easy to hit. I recommend it highly to anybody who struggles from time to time with hitting woods. The FYbrid 3 wood tends to balloon on me sometimes when hit off the fairway which I think is more a problem with my swing than with the club. It is however extremely long and straight off the tee though. Can't recommend that FYbrid hybrid/wood gap club highly enough.
  4. Adams is now selling what they call wood hybrids. As someone who struggles on occassion with my woods, I'm very interested in trying them out. They are the 9032ti.
  5. I swear by the jumbo Winn grip. Every putter I own has/will have that grip. It feels so nice and the larger size prevents me from getting too wristy. Also looks great.
  6. I bought the niblick and it is a good club. That said it is no longer in my bag. The reason for that is after I bought the niblick I purchased Phil Mickelson's Secrets of the Short Game and that dvd has greatly helped in improving my short game technique to the point where I am now comfortable and confident in making a variety of short game shots with pretty much every club in my bag. Can't recommend it highly enough.
  7. Even Tiger hits em out of bounds so if you're looking for perfection I think your direction is misguided. Now at a 5 handicap you must be a pretty good golfer and I think you are doing the correct thing by concentrating on the short game. Everybody is going to hit a bad t shot here and there. The trick is to midigate the damages (and not let the bad shot pay with your head).
  8. I'm pretty good with the putter, particularly on reading speed and break. Here is what has worked for me and may or may not work for you. Best advice I got when I started playing golf was to imagine the putt in your head, soo the ball roll and break into the hole. Now... the speed that you imagine the ball needs to achieve to make the putt... that should be the speed of your putter from backswing to contact with the ball. Try it. Being someone who is very good at lag putting I found that I was way to cautious on the shorter putts... reading more break than was actually there for such a short putt. With that in mind, I'm much more aggressive this year on shorter putts, basically hitting hard enough so that there is little or no break.
  9. I bought the R9 this year so that I could change the clubface and eventually get used to having a neutral or even open clubface. Unfortunately I don't like the R9 itself however I can now hit it with a neutral setting. Given your handicap I'd suggest going with the closed face. Golf is so much more fun when you are hitting fairways. For myself I'm thinking of getting an Adams Insight Tech A4 (expecting a price drop now that the new clubs are out) and using that for the driving range to work on my swing while going back to my Cleveland XLS on the course.
  10. Yeesh.. where are the gentlemen? I'd have kept to my commitment without a seconds thought and made the young lady as comfortable as possible in strange surroundings (hooter's thing is irrelevant).
  11. I've been battling chronic fatigue, stress (got permanently laid off) and diabetes (stress has led to some unhealthy eating). This has greatly affected my golf game. I feel weak and tired all the time and I've lost considerable distance, particularly on my drives. It had gotten so bad I was considering giving up the game as it was just no fun anymore but I battled through it and am starting to feel a little better now. In fact, yesterday and today I've felt better than I have in a long time so I'm looking forward to golf this weekend.
  12. I like the Gamer's and they are inexpensive. If you like something that really feels soft around the green, you might consider the Nike Karma. It's marketed towards women but I just love how they feel around the green. Get some sleeve's of inexpensive balls and try out a bunch of different ones. I don't buy balls for distance anymore - I find the distance to be relatively the same regardless. It's the feel when pitching, chipping, and putting that matters most to me.
  13. I love my reelfits. I play almost exclusively in the early morning so am always in wet conditions. These keep my feet warm, dry, and comfortable. I have 3 pairs of more traditional golf shoes but never wear them since getting my reelfits.
  14. I have one. While I love my FYbrid gap, the 3wood tends to balloon on me from time to time. I much prefer my tour edge exotics cb2.
  15. Try this (preferably on the drivng range first) Set up aiming right down the middle of the fairway. Try to hit the ball out of bounds to the right (swing towards the out of bounds). This will force that inside to outside swing. If you've ever played baseball, it kind of feels like when you are trying to hit to right field. Don't get frustrated. I was a big time slicer with the driver when I started. After a couple of years of frustration I went out to the driving range determined how to hit a draw. Surprisingly I found myself able to do it the first day or two of trying. I still have to watch myself as my natural swing just wants to go left to right but if I concentrate on the inside to outside mechanic, I no longer have an issue. In fact, I rarely hit the ball out of play with my driver these days.
  16. I can't say mine is accurate because I play the same course all the time. Also there are times where things are going soooo bad that I stop keeping score. Over time of course those high scores get weeded out so I don't think I'm too far off. I've been all over the map this season and seem capable of hitting anywhere from 84 to 124. Fortunately over the past couple of weeks I've played a lot and settled back into pretty much bogie golf.
  17. It's a great game isn't it? I was out today and played ok - 89; played the entire round with one golf ball and my issue lately has been penalty strokes - problem is I couldn't putt to save my life and putting is usually a strong suit for me. Guaranteed I'm going to go out tomorrow and putt really well but my Driver will start slicing or I'll struggle with hitting fat shots off the fairways or my chipping will let me down. Must be a wonderful feeling to have everything working at once but I wouldn't know.
  18. I also like Tin Cup but would modify just slightly and go with TinCups.com
  19. I have one. It's an awesome putter. I changed it this year only because, after doing some research, I realized my stroke worked better with a blade. I'll never get rid of my craz-e though. It's just so nicely balanced. I also changed my grips on both my craz-e and my redwood to one of those oversized grips from Winn. Awesome grip. The grip also added a little weight to the putter which, for me, made it even easier to control.
  20. I'm going to speak for all Canadians here.... Tim Horton's coffee
  21. I've been playing mostly the Gamer for the past 2 years but there is another little known, extremely inexpensive ball that performs very well... the Intech Limbo. They can be hard to find though (one of our local Canadian Tire stores carries them). $10 Canadian for 15 balls.
  22. I'm watching this thread with interest (and hoping for the best for you and your game). I've never had lessons and this is my 5th year. I'm not a long hitter either and have always wondered if some lessons would improve my distance. What I want is what you want... 250 off the tee instead of the 200 I've been getting. My first year I was so bad with the driver, and completely unable to hit woods, that I was teeing off with a 3 iron. I've steadily increased to the point where two thirds through last season, I hit an 80. I've been pretty much struggling ever since and have regressed drastically. Almost quit the game. Glad I didn't though as things are finally starting to get back to where they were. Had to build my swing back up from ground zero. Interestingly, I was having the same issue as you... somehow I had taken my wrists out of the swing completely. Anyway, I just wanted to wish you the best and I hope you keep this thread alive throughout your lessons and perhaps a little past. I can't afford lessons this year but who knows... maybe next.
  23. Sounds like a Wilson Staff FYbrid would fit in there perfectly as it is meant to gap between your hybrids and woods. It's 19.5 degrees and 41 inches and I bet it becomes your go to club.
  24. I just went through a solid month where my mechanics were so screwed up, I couldn't hit anything. It was the most frustrating period of time I've ever experienced playing golf and I was honestly ready to quit the game entirely. It was obviously a problem with my mechanics but I just couldn't identify the exact issue. Over the past week I've broken my swing down completely. I started by just chipping a lot, then moved on to a 3/4 swing, then to a full swing. It's finally paid off with an 86 yesterday and an 88 today. I still don't have all my distance back but now that I'm striking the ball effectively I can work more on tempo and swing speed.
  25. I've searched for this info myself and couldn't find anything other than one site that required a paid subscription so I didn't bother.
