still consider myself a beginner, but I've learned that making adjustments in golf is like backing up a boat on a trailer. Make small adjustments and then react, big changes and adjustments will jackknife you.

53/46 for a 99. Feels good, haven't been under 100 in a while. Good to see the Trending HI on it's way down. Kind of a funny round. 5 one putts, only 1 GIR, but 57% fairways hit. Started the round with two 8s, one on a par 3.
-
Sounds like my joint, except I can play any days all inclusive and can book out as far in advance as I want.
-
That 102 I had 35 putts. which is below my average of 38.64 putts.

If you're buddy will stop golfing with you because you help him help his brother's pace, then he's not much of a buddy.
-
Play stableford and then everyone can pick up their ball when they're over a bogey. Bad golfers can play with a decent pace. I'd talk to him about how to play with a better pace. we've all been bad before, he deserves to play golf as much as anyone else. Just talk to him about pace of play.

54/48 for a 102, again the bad holes killed me. I had 4 pars and 4 GIR. I've weirdly been missing double bogeys recently. I've been having more pars, bogeys and triple+ bogeys. I had 6 triples or worse last round. I felt like I was playing as good as I've ever played, just need to try and turn some of those triples into doubles.

27.4 -> 27.8 almost have 20 scores now in my list and although the handicap is rising, the game in improving. I think this might be the peak handicap and it's downhill from here.

Some golf writers are crazy. "9 suggestions to make golf better"??
xcott replied to Jeremie Boop's topic in Golf Talk
The only time you experience slow play on tv is in the end of the final round. Otherwise there are enough guys on the course that the time between shots is showing other golfers. The only benefit would be if you were in person or if it worked on players playing casual rounds to increase pace of play. -
two, but more when I'm playing golf.

I like having the match play choose your opponent. -
Looking for quality shots and swing over low scores
xcott replied to Valleygolfer's topic in Golf Talk
I would rather make a great shot with the wrong club and blast it OB over the green than a terrible shot with the right club which happens to end up in a good spot via luck. -
generally i think you should keep carts away from the tee box. Generally if you want to tell someone about something they shouldn't do, you need only do it one time.

Played tees which were a 136, and there were three sets of tees behind me. Shot a 120, with lots of blowup holes, but some good pars. Posted 2 10s. My ESC was 113. Didn't beat my handicap. But had a lot of fun. Perfect conditions, amazing layout. If I won the lottery, I'd get a membership.

playing two extremely difficult courses for the first time is not the recipe for record scores. 120 and 104 (par 71). However the rounds were high because of terrible holes.Put up 4 pars on the 104, many more swings felt good and difficult courses can be tamed with good play. the random we played with did not believe that I was a 27 handicap, which felt good. Heading back to the home course for more play will help. The next handicap revision will likely see my HI rise, but i'm confident it's the highest it will ever be.

DJ relief from rough to fairway, 10th hole Sunday
xcott replied to SquirrelNutz's topic in Rules of Golf
I doubt the rule was intended to give someone a better lie, which was what DJ legally did in this instance. -
I'm playing a course this week that has a double ended range like above but it also has two fairways you can hit along with about 10 greens and some bunkers. Having fairways in the range is genius, imo.

I once read a good definition of what sports should be in the olympics 1. must have international appeal. Lots of countries participating 2. The olympics would be it's most important competition Golf is yes on 1 no on 2.
-
Countries can give prize money, the olympics does not directly give prize money. I don't think anyone has a duty to go to the olympics. While I'd like the best in the world I can't fault them. I also can't fault them for using a pre made zika excuse because if they told the truth they'd be unfairly criticized.

Some publications in agreement with me, I'm interested in the plethora of sources suggesting people booing the question and not the usga. Tampa Bay times: " OAKMONT, Pa. — Dustin Johnson won the U.S. Open on Sunday, surviving a controversial and drawn-out discussion about a rules infraction that had players and fans ripping the USGA on social media and the crowd booing the USGA during the trophy presentation. " The Oklahoman: "On the 18th green at Oakmont on Sunday afternoon, as FOX's Joe Buck mentioned the United States Golf Association, the reaction was quick and immediate and loud. Booing. The golf crowd at an old-money American club — the last bastion of politeness, the final frontier of docile — turned nasty, lustily booing the mere mention of the USGA" the scotsman: " It’s just a pity the incompetence of one of the game’s governing bodies is the big talking point to come out of the event and those boos by spectators that greeted the news at the prizegiving that Johnson had, in fact, been docked a shot will hopefully ring loud in a recurring nightmare for Davis and his fellow blundering buffoons. Show me the general outrage regarding Buck's question. The ironing is delicious. No I'm not. I'm sure just as Hans Moleman was the one saying Boo-URNS, there was someone there booing Buck. But it would be near delusion to think that the general impetus and booing was for the question and not for the USGA going USGA.

Possibly because it was made irrelevant by DJ winning by more than a stroke. What if he was tied and then the USGA comes out and says...tournament over. DJ loses! That's without question the worst way to end what is supposed to be an entertainment product. Nobody in their right minds wants referees to end a match. There is no reason the USGA couldn't have made their decision in a timely fashion. If this were on the 18th green, that's one thing. However this was far from that. The USGA likely wanted the attention and wanted a chance to go all USGA in this situation. The USGA does not sit back behind the scenes, they court attention and they relished in the opportunity to decide a tournement with a rules decision. It's the dream come true for them. DJ ruined it for them fortunately. Golf is entertainment pure and simple. It's not about the players but about the entertainment value. We watch golf to watch players of extreme ability perform. Nobody except a small slice of rules nerds are entertained by rulings. The USGA is like Joe West in baseball, they think people pay to watch them, when they don't. I'm ok with the ruling impacting the result, that happens. But waiting until the end is obviously courting attention and shifting the dramatics from the players onto the rules.

I like golf, but i don't see the growth opportunity. Sounds like the IPO is to cash out by the current owners.

I'm often intrigued by delusion, which is the only way one can believe the crowd was upset that Buck had the temerity to ask about the usga rather than the crowd was upset at the USGA for going all USGA. If you don't want to discuss on a discussion board, that's your prerogative. I'm not DJ and you're not the USGA, so I don't have to abide by your ruling to not discuss something even if you're suggesting it for no apparent reason.

Disagree that people were booing Buck for asking the question? That's not arguable actually. Where is the general outrage anywhere for buck asking the question? I've heard of no people saying that, I've heard many who are rightly upset at how the USGA handled the situation. People like to see golf tournaments decided by golf playing, not rule deciding. I know the USGA thinks everyone is a rules nerd and loves it, but it's not true.
