  1. I am happy with them. I have the black stealth finish and it is holding up well. I especially like the sand wedge I got with the ES grind. Best sand wedge I ever had. I have the Black Stealth finish, it has held up well. The numbers were black which I did not like. I paint filled them in red-58 yellow-54 white-50 and I like that a lot. Easy to pick the right club. I don’t think you can go wrong. I think they are about to launch a forged wedge. If that lites you up you may want to wait.
  2. I am going to say yes. I bag 2-5 in hybrids now. My bag looks like I am going to put on a puppet show. Some people give me crap. I don't care, whatever gets the job done.
  3. I'll confess to not reading every post. In the past I did not like Music when I was playing. Then we started playing indoors in the winter. In that scenario there is more noise then just music. I found it to be helpful, both the noise and music. It taught me to tune out the outside noise, all of it. I now enjoy music on the course. It is not a must but I tend to like it. When we are playing with others we ask if music will bother them, if they say yes we turn it up....kidding. If they say yes we leave it off. I play on a course with few trees and it is difficult if not impossible to hear anyone else's music. If music is going to hurt someone from having a personal best in any way there is a problem. It would never be a jarring sound. If music is bad then talking is equally bad. Do you talk on the course?
  4. What club do you hit from 120 yards or 80? I am not sure I would call that properly fit? +3 you said is that +3 on the loft? I got a set of Ping I200's over the winter. I am very pleased with them. They are not a long club but they are very consistent distance wise and they are more forgiving then you would think.
  5. The Fitter I use which is on Long Island said to me. PXG clubs are great, if the price is an issue at all I would look at other clubs. I have the resources to get any club I want but sometimes there are things that are a waste of money. If you are a person who keeps a set of clubs for 15 years it might be easier to justify. I am not that guy. For the record, many of the guys that work at the fitter play PXG and they can play whatever they want.
  6. I don't think Ping i3 are blades? Cavity back at least. If you are a Ping fan I would try the Ping i200 for sure.
  7. Do you find your wedges releasing too much? Would more spin be better?
  8. This could be a eureka moment! Maybe that why my swing is inconsistent! I leave them in the trunk in the summer and keep them inside in the winter.
  9. I am all wedged up, no need for more. The tight gaps let me hit greens from from those distances (or try and hit greens).
  10. I think if you looked on the LPGA tour it would be more of a comparison as far as amature male club head speed. There are lots of Hybrid on the LPGA tour. I always joke my bag looks like a puppet show with all the club head covers in it. Right now the top of my bag goes DR, 2H,3H,4H,5H. The hybrids take me from 175 to 220. I can hit'em straight, draw, big sweeping draw, fade if I am desperate. I used to be afraid of the hook but I found a couple things. First ball position is critical. If you look down and think fairway wood and put the ball too far forward in your stance it is turning left (at least in my case). Second if I get all jacked up and try and "kill" one I get "armsy" and it is going left. With the correct ball position and swing I can move the ball around and hit it the longer distances high enough to stop it on a green while maintaining control. Hybrids are my favorite clubs in the bag, instill confidence.
  11. I am particularly fond of the 54 es grind I picked up. They call it the ultimate sand club and my early reaction would be to agree. I have hit some of my best sand shots with that club.
  12. Digging the stealth wedges outside. I have 8 rounds under my belt with them and they feel good. The finish is holding up well. I have changed my swing. I am more connected and flip at the ball less or perhaps not at all. It has caused something interesting that I have to dial in. My 1/2 a wedge swing distance is way off. I need to get on the launch monitor and do some work. Last year for example a 9 o'clock swing with a 58 would go very high and go a predictable 60 yards. Now I am not really sure how far it goes but it is much more than 60 somewhere in the 80's with a lower trajectory. I was trying to dial in an 8 o'clock (hands) swing and a 9 o'clock arms swing and I think I got myself confused. I lost the ability to have a known distance from less than 70. I am going to hit the monitor and do a 9 o'clock swing and record the distances then after I am comfortable I will go for the lessor swing.
  13. I have a friend with pretty bad arthritis. He is always seeking distance because he has to. I think he hits a 7 iron 120 on a well struck shot. He was fitted for the Rogue X and his "7" iron was going 135-138. His set will be a 5 hybrid jumping to 7 iron on up. The trackman data shows the dispersion was as good as his current 7 iron and the descent angle was higher. With his old clubs he tended to land it short and let it release. He has not received the clubs yet. BUT it is a situation where if he wants to play from the same tees as everyone else he needs to find distance. This club has a stronger loft, yes, its weight is far back giving the low loft height. Does it spin less, sure. He is not playing Augusta greens he will probably be OK. The shaft is shorter than a club with classic loft and the head is big with lots of off center help. The club is lighter to help with head speed. So for him I think it makes sense that he try these clubs. Would he be better hitting a longer shafted 5 iron in the same situation? I don't think so. This club was made for exactly his situation. If you hit a 7 iron 150 or more this club is not designed for you. I can still hit the ball a decent distance but I am glad there are clubs like this out there for the time that my distance falls off because of age.
  14. Many hybrids are set up for players with slice problems was my point. Make sure you hit whatever you buy, your soft draw could turn into more.
  15. You have not said what your shot shape is with a hybrid. Many better players have problems with hybrids hooking. I have found the Callaway Apex hybrid is more of an anti hook club then most. I would give them a look.
  16. You make an assumption that all off line shots land in the rough. Not on the courses I play. There are traps, water, heather, woods and a little rough. Here in an overhead of my home course. The dark brown is all heather. The darker green is the rough. There is not much rough and what is there is juicy. If you are in the heather there are times during the year where PW is the only club you should hit. There are times when you are not going to find the ball. All those traps are in the right places. I have been practicing my 2 hybrid all winter and I am planning on pulling it more often.
  17. I have had a chance to play several indoor simulated rounds of golf with the wedges. I am getting consistent distances and I can slip the 58 under the ball on the mat for a flop type shot, that is a good sign. I am continuing to record 1/2, 3/4 and full shot distances to see if (or how much) it varies day to day. Wednesday it is supposed to be nice and I should get to play outside for the first time this year on my home course. So I will be getting out with my i200's and glide 2.0's. From everything I can tell so far the i200's fly a much more consistent distance than the Apex CF16's they replaced albeit a slightly shorter distance. Finally I started reading Every Shot Counts again it has been a while.
  18. I am starting to be a fan of Ping. They sell what works and don't make unrealistic claims. I have gone through a series of Ping drivers, I am looking for forgiving in a driver, and they deliver that. I was and am impressed that they would not do a driver hosel that adjusted 300 different ways because it would take away from the forgiveness of the club. Takes commitment to buck the market trend. You may guess from these statements I am an engineer. Technically these wedges have a cavity, sort of. I guess I'll see over time what that does for me. I am going to measure gapping for my 1/2, 3/4 and full shots to see where they fall by the end of the weekend. Early tests show them to be consistent distance wise like the I200's I am playing. They do look small in black. I am not sure that is a good thing.
  19. No I got them since you named them.... I have not hit enough balls to say. The good news is I hit a lot of balls. The bad news is it will be a couple weeks before I get outside.
  20. Truth be told that’s why I got them.
  21. I was able to hit some balls on a launch monitor (on a mat). So far so good. I can control the distance well. Impossible to judge the grind other than to say on standard partial and full shots they are fine. I attached a photo of the number. If I am carrying the number will be impossible to see. I am going to paint fill them white so I have a chance.
  22. I swapped out my wedges this year. I went from Callaway MD3's to Ping Stealth 2.0's. I changed my wedges because I do play for spin around the green and over time they do not spin as well. I also never got along with the 50 degree for full shots. I was never comfortable with it. I am playing Ping I200's for irons, Ping G400 driver and I figured I try the wedges. I got 50 SS 12 degrees bounce, 54 ES 8 degrees of bounce and 58 SS 10 degrees of bounce. I really have not hit them yet but pulling them out of the plastic I note two things. 1. The numbers are back like the club. That has to change, it is near impossible to see. 2. I like the dyla-wedge grips. They are longer, and do not taper as much. Since a wedge is a club I grip down on more than most I thought I would give it a try. It also has a reminder rib which I like. After I break them in I'll report back but I suspect they will be just fine.
  23. At the end of last year I was trending down. I got the I200's for Christmas and played 3x's on one trip outside. I have played many times inside on a simulator. Going from Callaway Apex CF16's I think I have better distance control. With the CF16's a good strike went considerably further than a marginal one. I have Arccos and I think I was playing the long distance. My home courses are brutal if you are past the pin. With the Pings I am not getting the deep shots and the spread is less. I think it is going to help my game BUT, I can enhance or destroy my game to a greater degree than the clubs ever will.
  24. I have not found that a simulator hurt my game quite the opposite. The one I play is very accurate so you get good feedback. If hitting off a mat messes you up there is nothing that can be done.
  25. We have a couple golf simulator places locally. If you are feeling the urge it is a great place to ge with some buddies. All then ones by be serve beverages, it's a great time. I play year round in a golf league. The indoor league is less about golf and more about hanging with your buddies but I always walk away with a big smile and it keeps my game in tune. We are almost there!
