  1. Any particular reason why you are not bending your right elbow in the backswing?
  2. I have this one. I like that I can easily move it around the garage if I need to rearrange things. It goes on sale for $30 off throughout the year. https://www.costco.com/saferacks-51"-golf-equipment-rack.product.100340626.html
  3. Wow! What happened?! You guys had it under control for the longest time!!!! No one knows what the long term effects are even if you survive and recover. I asked the cart guys who’s the latest positive case and they didn’t even know there was one from last week! I think management needs to tell at least the staff what’s going on! I am officially not a member of my old club anymore. Don’t really miss it much. There is so much drama there - see my post about club championship...
  4. No, the guy did not play in any club events since becoming a member. He only played with his family. No one knows him until he won. The championship flight was made up of guys who play together regularly, the ones who think they own the course because they are good. Out of nowhere someone not from their pack came out to sweep the title so some are just bitter. I don’t know if it is due to Covid but normally the club would leave the scoreboard up at the clubhouse for weeks so members could see the scores. They didn’t do that this year. The club would also send out an official email to announce the champion immediately. They didn’t do that either. It’s almost like the headpro wants people to forget who won this year as soon as possible.
  5. The men’s golf association at my club just had the club championship two weeks ago. The person who won was an ex tour player from Canada, relatively new to the club, belongs to the association but never played with anyone other than his family. No one knew who he was until he took everyone by surprise by winning and obviously hurt a few egos along the way. Normally the club would send out an official email to announce the winner with some background information and stats, but the headpro did not do that for the winner. So now, there are a few guys complaining that those who used to play professionally should not be allowed to play in club championships because they are just so much better. Same for the women’s association. There is a member who used to be a college player. She doesn’t play with the association either and the women’s association has a rule that only active members can play in the championship. And by active, they mean participate in the weekly play days. So this rule prevents this ex college player from participating in the club championship. I want to see what others think about whether it is fair or not to allow college or tour players to play since they are at a different level.
  6. I am actually still a member at my old club, was debating to end it or not on 9/1 when I got an email from the GM that someone at the club tested positive and was there yesterday. I managed to stay away from the club all of August EXCEPT yesterday to drop off a payment and I chatted with a few people too. I hate that they don’t tell you where this person had been so I am on 14-day quarantine again. It is safer for my husband to go to work at the hospital than to go to the club...geez My game has been good. My driver is still improving and I am getting used to my new 3w. I am actually cutting down on golf lately, only playing 4 rounds a week instead of 6. My hcp has been fluctuating a bit but still managed to stay below 6. Keep up the good work. 8 hcp is very good! I really don’t know why I keep running into weirdos on the course...
  7. For me, ball is center for irons and hybrids, slightly off center towards toe for woods, and completely off the face with my driver. I also tee my ball up low.
  8. It is a beautiful course and it is rarely busy so there are no marshalls out there. Last weekend, the guy ahead of me decided to relieve himself right off the fairway, 150yds from the first tee box. I don’t know if he did not notice people at the tee box waiting or that he didn’t care, but the clubhouse was less than 100yds away... Here’s a better view of what the hole looks like when the cart was heading for the green. I usually see deers or coyotes, rarely other golfers...
  9. Caught up to these people yesterday. One set of clubs but both are hitting balls, goofing around. I waited for them from 300yds out, saw them drove cross the line that was 70yds off the green, parked, then proceeded to chunk balls 5yds at a time until they got on the green. They did not fix any of the trenches they dug up and if I could see chunks of turf flying from that far away, they had to be sizable. Anyway, I got tired of waiting and knowing that I wouldn’t get anywhere near them, I pulled out my Rocket 3 for my next shot. Well, I hit THE BEST 3w shot of my life (with the help of a downhill slope) and my ball landed not far from their cart. I guess they heard/saw the ball so they came back to move the cart UP TO THE GREEN! Geez. I never saw them again for the remaining holes so they had to have skipped a hole or two. Not sure if they are guests or members but members usually respect their own course. And if I were paying $200/round, I wouldn’t be skipping any holes either, so I have no idea what these yahoos are...or they could be staffs playing a few holes.
  10. Just curious how much did the club fitting cost? If I had paid for a fitting and have doubts with the results/more unanswered questions, I’d go back to the fitter to get some clarification.
  11. My club charges me $120/mth to use my own golf cart and the fee applies during winter when there is snow, or even during covid shutdown earlier this year when the club was closed. They also charge a cart fee ($18) to anyone who rides with me in MY private cart that I have already paid to use on the course! Everyone drives their cart up to the fringe of the greens, even the headpro and staff so you cannot fault members for doing the same. This course is in a residential community (but a separate business entity) and there are no gates to prevent anyone from driving on the course. What annoys the crap out of me are parents who allow their underage kids to drive carts (rule is 16 with a license plus insurance) but I have seen kids so young that they had to stand up inorder to hit the pedal and be able to see above the steering wheel....young kids driving their friends around, driving on the fairway against golf traffic when people are playing, or groups of 5 teenagers with 1 set of clubs in a 2 seater cart (kids hanging on like monkeys) sneaking on to play...The club knows about all these issues but they are not doing anything about it...
  12. I broke my Callaway XR16 last year after a very solid tee shot that didn’t touch the ground! I had that driver for 3 years and I mainly make contact with the ball closer to the heel and I hit at least 50 drives every day for 3 years. I was told it was age, overuse and “too soft” a flex (women’s shaft) that caused the snap. I have since purchased new drivers and changed to men’s shaft.
  13. My husband said the same - that nobody had ever commented on his swings or offered advice but he noticed me getting them almost everytime we are at the range. Strange. People do really walk up to give swing tips! It is creepy because you don’t know how long they have been watching! I get the most unsolicited advice at Sandia. At Tanoan, people like to socialize and someone will always stop by to chat or talk about swings. I have had a few people giving me tips at Arroyo, and some asking for tips which I suggested they ask a pro at the shop. Paako is the only place I find peace and solitude because it is always empty...
  14. I wear my airpods at the range so people won’t chat with me or offer swing tips. Music throws off my tempo so I don’t listen to music either when I play.
  15. One of my instructor taught me to do this when I used to grip too tightly with my right and had too much “hand” on my swing. He said the grip should come from the palm and last 3 fingers, not thumb/index. He said his own coach used to have him hold a golf ball with his index finger while swinging to take his index finger out of the equation. I couldn’t hold a golf ball but I extend my index finger in the air instead. I don’t do that anymore since I figured out how lightly to hold the grip.
  16. I carry ~190 on average so according to the chart, I should be playing between 5000-5600. I used to play 5100-5400 and am now playing 5700-5900. Both are forwards tees at different home course. I have played 6100 a few times and didn’t find it that much more challenging, but I am happy where I am. The minor issue that I am currently facing is that I outdrive the fairway off the tee on a few holes and have to use a 3w instead because I don’t want to move back a tee. At my old club, most ladies roll out to 150 and we play from the same tee since there isn’t anything shorter than 5000. I have seen older men playing from 6400 or younger guys playing off the tips at 7000 who couldn’t drive past the forward tees/find the fairways, but as long as they are enjoying the game, who am I to say that’s the wrong tees for them...
  17. I am going to change my home course - I joined a new club at the end of May and stopped playing the old course in July. I play from the forward tees at both clubs (thank goodness no peer pressure to tee back!), both 27-holes. Old course yardage ranges from 5130 (68.4/127) to 5404 (69.5/129). New course 5755 (72.6/139) to 5937 (73.3/140). I have played 31 rounds at my new course so far and have parred every hole at least once, and birdied 17 out of 27. No HIO at the new course yet but it is near impossible when the cups are raised. I am happy to have completed my par-challenge for my new course and I should be able to birdie a few more holes by the end of the season🤞🏼
  18. I played my best round/front 9 of 2020 today with a 78 (72.9/141). I was on fire in the front - scored a 35 with 4 birds and 3 pars, but once I realized I was playing well on hole 13, it got to my head and everything went downhill🙄 It’s also my first time playing with the new SIM Max Rocket 3 and oh my, it is now my favorite club besides my driver!
  19. I have only played 18 different courses in NM and HI since I am relatively new to golf. I have a display rack for them and my 2 hole-in-one balls.
  20. My driver used to be my weakest club no matter how much I practiced. I started hitting it well 2 years ago after focusing my golf lessons on the driver only for months and practiced with a purpose (v. randomly hitting balls hoping to get a few good ones). I practice every day but I don’t use every single club in my bag. I have irons/hybrids/woods days so I can focus on those specific clubs, but I hit my driver every single day. My husband practices with all his clubs starting from the wedges but by the time he gets to the driver, he is always tired and ready to call it. He thinks that’s why the driver is his weakest club.
  21. He works hard so I can enjoy life, isn’t that the whole point?🤔 LOL I am now using a SIM Max D 9 degree (set to 8.5) with a senior shaft (Mitsubishi Bassara). I have gained club head speed with the SIM and am loving the extra distance. Aside from my driver, my next best club is the 3w but I am only getting ~180 out of it. I want a 200yd club and that’s what I got from the R3 when I demo last week (stock stiff shaft) but my arms got tired after a few swings. The rep suggested I go with regular but I think I want the same sr. shaft as my driver. I am starting to outdrive the fairway on a few holes and that is getting me in trouble. I don’t want to move back a tee so maybe the rocket 3 will be an option on those holes. Are you looking for a new driver? I tried the Mavrik too but couldn’t make good contact at all and everything just felt wrong. Likewise, when my friends tried my SIM, they all said the club felt wrong and none could launch the ball in the air. Weird how some clubs work well for some but not others!
  22. Shot an 81 yesterday with 6 pars and 2 birdies. I have been hovering in the low 80s all season. Cannot seem to shave off the few strokes that I am giving away every round. I am playing with my new SIM driver and it is giving me an extra 20+ yards off the tee and because of that, I am having to hit different clubs for most of my 2nd shots. I think that is throwing me off.
  23. They are called “forward tees” 😉 LOL I know how it feels to play so well in the front 9 just to completely fall apart for no particular reason. Last week I had a 35 at the turn just to bogey every damn hole in the back 9. I usually go downhill once I know I am playing well, so I try to not look at my scorecard until I finish. LOL😆 Golf is a very humbling game. There is no room for any ego... I survived my quarantine! My new driver arrived just in time to start golf again. I think my hcp is going up but it should still be single digit. I play great one day and completely fail the next. No golf shoes or clothes (I got plenty to last my lifetime), but I did order a new club to close the gap between my new driver and old 3w. It’s the TM SIM rocket 3 and it should come in next week. How is your game?
  24. Any particular reason why you choose to play a longer course when you are struggling? Can you tee it forward? It doesn’t necessarily mean it is any easier but it may force you to use shorter irons more and improve on accuracy. Move back to 6600 when you break 90.
  25. My old course charges $18 per rider so there is no up charge as a single. I have a private cart, so does most of those who play regularly. My new club includes cart fee in the membership and they are never fully packed. Most groups are singles/doubles anyway.
