Age: 30 Where are you from: Indiana, Tennessee I've been playing for: 15yrs Best Score: 79 Favorite club in bag: 56* Nike SV Golf books that have helped: none really, enjoyed Rick Reilly's "Who's Your Caddy?", but its for entertainment, not teaching Where do you play: Highland Rim, The Legacy, Twelve Stones, Pine Creek Best courses you've played so far: TPC Scottsdale, TPC Myrtle Beach Things you enjoy most about golf: the outdoors, the unmatched feeling of hitting a smooth, pure golf shot...nothing else like it Goals for 2K10: single digit handicap, be consistent

i've used the nike SV wedges, 56 and 60, for around 3yrs. i think they're unmatched in feel. i have a friend who plays cleveland wedges so i swing those every once in awhile and my nike's just have a better overall feel. i'm always glad i choose them over the competition. that being said, i'm thinking of buying the mizuno mp T10 black satin 52* wedge, it looks great at address and if it feels good on the swing then it's going in the bag. go with what feels right, you'll never go wrong.

i'm not one to dish out advice but i'll throw in my 2 cents. it looks from the pic that you're turning your hips a lot. this might just be from the angle at which the pic was taken but it looks like you're turning your hips away and that's making your upper body rotate. maybe try to turn that into more of a slide and less of a rotation.

agreed, the doral has been a fun tournament to watch, today should be a great day of golf. on a side, i don't know if you guys feel the same but johnny miller pisses me off to no end as a commentator. he sits so tall up on his high horse, i'm surprised they can fit him in the tower. anyway, yesterday was the first time he actually entertained me w/o pissing me off. ernie had a difficult pitch over a bunker with about 3ft of green to work. in the middle of ernie's backswing someone else said, "i don't think he has a enough room to get this close", ernie proceeded to pitch the ball and pull the string within that 3ft and stopped the ball right beside the hole, w/o blinking johnny miller says, "what do you think now?" but i still don't like him....

Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
dblbgy17 replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
haven't picked it up yet but i'm hoping to get the mizuno T10 black satin 52*07 wedge sometime this weekend. and prob the new callaway hat and i need a new towel for this season. -
don't worry, many others including myself started out much worse. i can't remember exactly what my first round was but i know i was consistently in the 60s when i first started. it may not happen right away so stick with it but if you're having fun and you keep your chin up you'll be just fine and scoring better. p.s.: if you're slicing off the tee, try moving the ball up in your stance, just inside you're lead foot and make sure you're bringing the club back a little lower and inside, little behind your back shoulder, if you're slicing you might be bringing the club back too high and outside

i have a rules question. i was watching when Ueda's ball got wet a few weeks ago and she was attempting to drop. it was near a drop off to the water banked by railroad ties, so her caddie opened up the umbrella to catch the ball if it rolled over the edge. but an official came over and seemed to tell the caddie that he couldn't do this??? i couldn't hear the tv at the time (was trying to take a nap, haha). why could the caddie not try to catch a dropped ball so that it wouldn't get lost for no reason whatsoever?

i sincerely disagree. hank's wife is hot but not in elin's league. anyway, if she's hotter than elin, does that mean hank won't cheat on her?? how hot does a chick have to be to be "affair-proof"?
-
i think you have to go with Romes. you need someone that knows the course and your game like he does but also isn't afraid to call you out and can provide a few laughs throughout the round. "You can't ask for advice about the woman you're trying to hose FROM the woman you're trying to hose!"
-
good thing is you wouldn't have to wait in line and they might give you a discount, haha. mine as well play it covered in snow...were you expecting to break 80 anyway??
-
the biggest thing is exactly what he said, knowing your limits and knowing where to miss. if it's not your shot then it's not your shot, but if it is then know when to hit it and how to hit it. you go for it b/c if you have that shot in your bag then it's the right shot to take. playing smart is playing your game.

i was a little surprised by haney too. ray's a decent golfer, no reason to degrade everything. i think haney has a chip on his shoulder b/c he didn't completely "fix" charles...if that's even possible. so now haney is gonna make ray pay for what charles couldn't do. but they're at two completely different levels. he's starting to come off as a egotistical prick...but his wife is hot. i just figured he was babysitting his granddaughter.

haha, i couldn't agree more. i was actually looking forward to this show, now i'm on the fence b/c these commercials piss me off so much. do i really wanna watch john daly look at his phone and sit on his ass for a 1/2 hour every tuesday? hopefully i'm wrong and it's worth the watch but they've gotta 86 those commercials.
-
haha, i would for this amount of $$. otherwise, no, if you get a hole in one it's gotta be like your birthday...only better. unlike your bday, you'll wanna celebrate this day every year for the rest of your life! to those of you who have achieved this, congrats...i'm still shooting at the golden dragon with the unicorn horn crapping platinum eggs.

i agree, it's a much better experience while walking. you just get a better feel for your round when you walk. i prefer to walk, unfortunately i don't get that opportunity down here that often. most courses don't allow it and some would be next to impossible, just ridiculous terrain for walking.

this is a great idea, never thought of asking to do this before. i feel the same way, for me, the best practice comes on the course during your round. the range is good for warming up, etc. but it's just not for me as far as just going to hit. question though: did the course charge you for going out there to practice??
-
i think you should, after all, it's a gentleman's game right? luckily, knock on wood, i've never lost a club before but i've found several on the course. i usually ask the group in front of me if it belongs to them the next time i catch them at the tee box, 9 times out of 10 it is. funny story - last season i hooked a tee shot into a little patch of trees, got up there and my ball was just on the outside of the group of trees so i could get a club on it without picking up, while i was setting up for the shot i glanced into the trees behind me and saw a $1 bill tucked under some leaves on the ground. golf gods gave me two breaks there, no drop and a $1...i'll be honest, i kept the $1, haha, i think it got me a snickers bar at the turn.
-
stretching is something i definitely need to do this year before every round. i'm terrible at going from the car straight to the tee box. can't get away with that anymore, turned 30 last month, haha. whenever i take my first swing of the round my left shoulder (i'm right handed, so my lead shoulder) always pops...and i mean ALWAYS! does anyone else have this going on? i'm a little concerned it might lead to a serious problem down the road. i've always been athletic and in good shape, played basketball and baseball so i don't think it's a condition thing. just a little concerned. my buddies always get a good laugh out of it though, yes it's that loud that they can hear it. on the other hand, it does help to keep the tee box quiet, b/c everyone wants to hear it.
-
i have a few things i need to work on to start the season: *stretching, preparing for the round - bad habit last year of showing up right at tee time and going straight to #1 tee box, stupid *sliding lead hip forward to start down swing *hitting down on the ball, consistently - did good job of this mid-season last year but for some reason let it go, makes a huge difference

i'm with you guys, can't wait to get out there. i moved south a few years ago and thought it might benefit my game, ha, not working out thus far. it was so nice over the weekend, 60*, now it's back to 35*, what a tease mother nature can be. i'll start putting around the house and hitting a few wedge shots over the couch...maybe i'll be able to get out in a few weeks. at least we have these forums to help satisfy some of the itch.
-
i use callaway tour ix also. i'm not a big fan of spending big $$ for balls either, so last year i tried ebay and i couldn't be happier. you can get mint A++++ balls extremely cheap. i bought a box of 100 and less than 5 balls showed any amount of wear. i would highly suggest this route. after reading some of these reviews i might give the new TP penta a try but i'm a big fan of the callaway tour ix.

in my opinion, if you're relatively new to the game and you're having putting troubles, it might be b/c you're rushing the putt. whenever i play with guys that have putting issues it's b/c they rush the putt. it's important to take your time, read the green, check the speed, check the break, pick your line, take a few practice swings and then let it go. if you do this and start to get your routine down you should be fine. you won't make every putt but you won't 3 putt every hole either. and i always loved DLIII quote on putting: "you'll miss 100% of the putts that don't get to the hole".
-
i agree with this post but would add a few other scenarios: *off the tee if necessary to follow dogleg fairway *attacking a tucked away pin if my playing partner is beating me, haha it's important to know how to work the ball but it's more important to know when to do it. don't worry about shaping shots just for the hell of it. until you're at a level where you need to attack pins, shape shots when going around trees and when necessary to keep it in the short grass.

Golf Bags, What do you do?
dblbgy17 replied to Donnie_Brasco's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
i agree. until you're getting sponsored to play, you should equip yourself with what works for you. i always want full length dividers in my bags and usually a good cell phone pocket. i know it's easy to get caught up in the "everything should match" scenario, i do it myself, sometimes it just gives you a sense of reinforcement, but in the end it's all about fitting your needs and your game.
