  1. Why all the arguing about head down, or not head down? I don't keep my head down. But I can believe it might actually help someone who has problems making solid contact on chip shots or short wedge shots. It'd be worth a try anyway, in that situation. And it doesn't seem like keeping your head down would be likely to cause an injury on a short greenside shot. I mean, it's not like 9wood is advising to keep your head down up in the tee box or a full swing approach shot. Anyway, carry on.
  2. My putting has never been anything to write home about. The pro shop where I play got a Putting Stick a couple months back. It has a mirror that shows you how far inside or outside of the ball your eyes are aligned. I found out that I normally line up with my eyes an inch or so outside the ball (bad). So I've been working a few minutes or so several times per week to get comfortable aligning my eyes over the ball, or slightly inside. I also had my putter retooled to better accommodate my height, 6'3". Just got it back yesterday. I had it bent upright a couple of degrees. Also had it regripped with an oversized Winn grip, and a 2" plug to make it a bit longer. I'm hoping these changes, and better alignment over the ball, will help my putting out. Time will tell.
  3. Ha ha! I did that once. Was playing the Naval Academy golf course with an older gentleman who was a member there. It wasn't crowded at all. The twosome behind us caught up with us. I was going to finish the hole and let them play through, but one of them hit into us. The ball hit a few feet behind me and rolled within a dozen feet or so of where I was standing. It really ticked me off since they just caught up to us on that hole. I got a rescue club from my bag, and sent his ball right back towards him. It cleared their cart. They turned around and retrieved the ball, and then went on to the hole ahead of us. I'm not exactly proud of the way I handled it. But I'll bet those guys thought twice before hitting into anyone else. lol
  4. Went out early this AM before anyone on the course to practice tee shots for half an hour with my retooled swing (from yesterday's lesson). I hit six tee shots, then retrieved the balls and hit them again. About half in the fairway, and five just off the fairway but playable. I only had one errant shot. Pulled it way left. Then practiced putting for 10 minutes, and up-and-downs for 15 minutes with my newly regripped putter.
  5. Second practice session today: It was rainy and overcast this morning. So after lunch I asked the pro if he had time for a lesson on tee shots out on the course. (No one on the whole course at the time.) He changed my swing quite a bit to be more consistent, and prevent those over-the-top shots that I hit every so often. After quite a few shots, and trying a couple different things, he had me hitting a nice draw. We were having a good time, and I was making progress. The half hour lesson he charged me for actually ended up being closer to an hour. I'll think I'll thank him again, and give him a nice $$ tip next time I'm in the pro shop. (Didn't have my wallet on me today.)
  6. Oh, so that's what they're doing. They're just smelling it. Really hard.
  7. 3W, 5i and 52 gap. Not sure which I'd use to putt with. Probly the edge of the gap wedge.
  8. Ha ha! That's awesome! I'm not sure where I could even go to practice a 60 yard putt. Might have to try it on a fairway this summer when they dry out and speed up a bit.
  9. True. OTOH, Spieth's involvement with Coke isn't as bad as some other golfer's involvement with coke. Just sayin..
  10. Not very good conditions at the practice green. Rainy and wet. The practice greens haven't healed from being plugged, and are covered with whirlygigs from the maple trees. Spent 20 minutes putting inside using the Putting Stick. I probly shouldn't have spent so much time with my putter since I'm getting a new grip and 2" extension plug put on today. Oh well.
  11. It was raining like crazy this morning. Did 5 minutes of putting indoors, and another 5 of back stretching and exercises. Might try to swing by the practice range on my way home though.
  12. Ha ha! That's awesome. He seems just like a regular guy. Well, except he has 1 in a million golf talent.
  13. Actually, the GG unit started a new round the second day. (If there's a way to stitch together two partial rounds, I don't know how to do it.) So, to make it one nine instead of two part rounds, I added in the holes I didn't have recorded to go along with the other day's holes. I generally do that when I forget to tag a club on a hole. Since I scope the distance on most shots I know the yardages.
  14. Hit the small ball first. Unless you're in deep rough, or have a tufty lie. Then you can use a club with some bounce and hit the big ball first.
  15. I shot a 42 in nine holes played over two days. I ran out of daylight, so I went back and finished up. (It wasn't going to be a round I could post since I played solo.) Anyway, I'm just making this post to brag a little bit (since I seldom have anything to brag about): I started out with birdies on #1 and #2! First time I've ever had back to back birds. In fact, I can't remember the last time I had two birdies in nine holes. Both birdies were the result of *very* lucky approach shots that left me with fairly short putts. On hole #2 I hit a 3-wood 186 yards up a slight hill to within 3 feet. I could hit a bucket of 3W shots from that distance and not get within 10 feet. lol
  16. Thanks! I believe 3-3 *should* come into play. But part of my question concerns whether or not can she mark where she thought the ball was after it had already moved and gone into the hole? What if she had backed off several feet away? (She actually did back up a couple of feet.) It seems like, since she didn't really have an opportunity to mark it they'd let her do that. But that's just a guess on my part, of what seems to make sense.
  17. Okay, another question: Let's say she was unsure of the rule, and the rules official on the spot didn't know the answer either. (After all, this is sort of an unusual situation.) Rather than holding up play while they called in other rules officials, could she then mark the spot of the ball, as near as she could guess, and go on to make a "provisional" putt? And then let the rules officials sort it out once they'd done a bit of research?
  18. Swung by the practice green on the way to work this AM. Practiced getting up and down for 30 minutes. I hit three balls to a pin on a sloping part of the middle of the green from six different angles into the green, at various distances (3 yds, 6 yds and 10-15 yds off green). Up-and-down 4/6 times from beneath the hole. Up-and-down only 1/6 times from above the hole (and one four jack. lol). Up and down 2/6 times from the either side of the hole. For a total of 7/18. I still have *plenty* of room for improvement, but that's much better than I was doing from around the green two months ago.
  19. Went to the driving range with my five year old. Practiced alignment with long irons for about 40 minutes. He hit at least three times as many balls as me with his little driver.
  20. My back was feeling better this afternoon, so I thought I'd try a couple of practice holes and see how it felt to take a full swing. Played four holes. Birdie, birdie, bogey, par. Then the wheels fell off the wagon. Ended with a triple bogey. lol
  21. Tweaked my back doing a little yard work yesterday. So I won't be taking full swings for a while. I swung by the practice green this AM for 35 minutes. Played nine balls to the nine holes on the green, putting out each time. Did this several times from different spots around the green.
  22. Ha ha! I have an old Boccieri "Heavy Putter" in my office, along with a couple other old putters. I pick it up every so often for a little carpet putting practice.
  23. Ha ha! (Sorry, man. I couldn't help it. ) That really SUCKS! You might scout around your yard a bit more. The device seems too big for them to eat unless they totally ripped it apart.
  24. Woke up early morning yesterday about an hour before the roster deadline. I got to thinking about Bryson DeChambeau. Didn't have him on my roster. So I made a last minute adjustment and dumped my "C" starter Brandon Steele, and inserted DeChambeau. After day 1 Steele is in 1st at -8. DeChambeau is at +2, below the projected cut line. I am a stupid.
  25. Coincidental that you'd post this right now. I just got back from the practice range a few minutes ago, working with my 52 and 56 wedges. The club pro happened by and asked how things were going. I said "Fine, except I've been hitting the occasional hozel rocket." (Maybe 1 out of 20 or 30 shots.) He had me try the exact thing you mention in your first sentence above. He said that would cut down on the hozel rockets. I hit a few, but will need to hit a bunch more to get a feel for that technique.
