Holy  cow $180 for a pair of shoes.. i mean I picked them up, and I like the traction on the bottom of the sole, and the feel.. but that is a lot of money for a pair of shoes, that just because Tiger wears them... I will wait for them to come down.. back to earth prices that is.

They are definitely pricey, and I wouldn't spend that, but there are many shoes out there that are a lot more expensive and aren't endorsed by Tiger.  Adidas, FootJoy, Puma, and True all have shoes priced well over $200.

They are probably junk that will lose their waterproof ability in 6 months...............

Spoken from a guy who owned the garbage TW 2009 version back in the day.......LOL

They were comfortable, but whoever thought-up the idea of a canvas upper should be shot..  Just saying..

Call me old fashoined but I perfer a more traditional looking golf shoe. Half shoes that look Like any ther white sneaker just seems to go against the traditional/gentlemanly feel of the game... Maybe I just want an excuse to wear my golf shoes that look silly off the course.

At the end of the day Nike can do whatever they want with there shoes, because they don't make a shoe that fits my foot.

That may not be the ugliest golf shoe on the planet, but they're certainly in the running! . . . . . . Of course, that's coming from an old guy who wears Foot Joy Icons, so my sense of fashion may be a bit dated.

You're right, all the shoes you listed are over $200 but part of that cost is all the "tech" that is added to the shoes.  The Footjoy ICON and XPS-1, Adidas AdiPure, and Tour 360 ATV and Puma Super Cell Fusion are over $200 but high tech shoes with a lot of built in stability, etc.

The Nike's are supposed to be minimalist shoes like the True, but at least the True offer a real full leather upper not a synthetic one.

Just a quick scan of page 1 of men's shoes on Golfsmith.com there are 3 pairs of Eccos for $189 and 2 pair of Adidas for $160. Golf shoes are expensive, not just the Nike Free type golf shoe that Tiger wears. Actually shoes are expensive period, I know grown men that camp out at the mall for Air Jordans to spend upwards of $160. The Olympic Lebrons are "rumored" to cost $300. At that price the TW Golf shoes are a bargain.

Leather isn't waterproof so they made the new TWs with a synthetic goretex-type material without a heavy, leather outer shell.  If there's one thing Nike has never been accused of it's lack of technology in their clothing and footwear.

I do however agree that they aren't the prettiest shoes I've ever seen, especially when they're worn with pants.

As far as I know this is the only waterproof golf shoe Nike makes. It's called the Bandon and at release they went for $180 They have a new version of the show coming out soon with a neon green swoosh.

Good point!  The shoe itself isn't waterproof but the synthetic material they use is.  So if you play in the rain your feet probably stay dry.  If you step in a puddle that's deeper than the shoe laces, they won't.

I actually have the new TW Nike golf shoe.  I actually like the look and feel of the shoe.  It is the best golf shoe I have ever owned.  No golf shoe is worth 180$, but I got mine at tgw.com on one of their sale promotions where you get 40$ off a purchase of 200$ plus.  I threw in a couple dozen golf balls and I got 40$ off my order.

As for the waterproof...I play all my rounds of golf b/w 6:30am and 8am when dew is on the ground.  My sockets do not get wet.  The shoe is as advertised.  I got the black version of the shoe.  The other shoe is all white and would be quite difficult to keep clean.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
