I need to get a new 7 iron shaft for my titleist ap2s. I am .5 over standard. This means my 7 iron needs to be 37.5 finished length. What kbs tour stiff taper shaft should I order? Want to make sure I get the right length. Thanks

Go to a golf store and have them order and put it in for you.

Look at the shafts on your current irons. Match what ever those are.

A store club maker can measure your 6i length, and order for you accordingly.

I am curious as to the correct length just for my general knowledge.

There is a feel component too. I was fitted and went with +.25 over what he spec' d for me because I like a little extra at the butt end, makes my grip feel better. The fitter was fine with that. That is just irons my woods are shorter than modern specs but I still choke down because they are so long. The difference between my longest iron and shortest hybrid about an inch.

I'm only average height, and still prefer a little more length so I don't have to bend over so much at address. I got callouses where the butt rubs against the hand on the follow through, and am thinking about adding some butt extenders the next time I change the grips.

I have a callous on my right hand heel pad edge ( rh golfer) and I grip with about and inch sticking out over my hands. But I don't wear gloves.

Yeah, that's probably one of the only downsides of not wearing a glove.

I am curious as to the correct length just for my general knowledge.

As you said, Standard length: 37" + .5 for you = 37.5" long.

If you ordered it yourself from GolfWorks, you would ask for: KBS Tour Taper | S-flex | 7 iron shaft.

  • The raw shaft would be about 39" long, to allow for butt-trimming to length. (Taper tip shafts are butt-trim only)
  • The hosel depth of the A2 irons is about 1", according to a clubsmith on GolfWRX.com

Setting the correct length of final trimmed shaft + grip involves this:

You put epoxy into the hosel and onto the tip of the shaft, and insert the tip into the hosel. Make sure it is all the way in, usually holding the head and tapping the butt of the shaft on the floor.  After the epoxy sets (see directions on epoxy), butt-trim the shaft to length. Note: if you wanted the final 7iron length to be 37.5", you would trim the shaft at 37.375 (37 3/8"); you have to allow 1/8" for the butt depth of the grip.

Best thing to do: follow the advice of  Lihu and Saevel25 to let a quality golf shop handle the ordering and installation for you.

Great! Thanks for the response.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
