Problem: I live in Houston and needless to say it gets hot and humid. With the golf hats I have (standard issue Taylormade or similar) the bill gets so wet that it starts to drip as I am over a shot or putt. This is of course very distracting. The best I can do is take my hat off after every shot and wipe my head and then eventually start squeezing the bill in a towel to get the excess moisture out. Not exactly something I always remember to do and it can be a pain. (Maybe two hats is a better option)

Does anyone know of a hat that addresses this issue? I don't know exactly what I am looking for here as far as a solution but I was just wondering if anyone had come up with something. I've done searches but anything with "golf" and "hat" in it is just a barrage of resellers so I just thought I would cloud source a little.

Thanks!

Do you ride or carry?

If you ride, I'd get a few extra towels and place them into a cooler with ice.  And then put them on your head in between shots - removing your hat - while you are driving to your next shot.  This will help cool your body - and reduce the amount that you are sweating.

Then have a dry towel to wipe down with before you put your hat back on. This should help reduce the amount of sweat that you are transferring into your hat!!

If this tip doesn't work... Move.  Houston is too *#$&ing; hot - AND HUMID to be playing golf!!!

Have you tried moisture wicking hats?  I use the Mizuno hat and I sweat a ton.

LOL. I can't argue with you on your last point. The plus side is year round golf

Your cooler idea is obviously the logical and smart route. The problem is I am lazy and don't want to do all that. Well maybe not lazy but its just on the course I am focused on other things and often forget even the most logical things (I've gone an entire round without drinking any water...in Houston...in the summer!)

Maybe I could scotch guard all the bills of my hats. That might make it worse though. Two hats might be the best. Wear one until its soaked and then hang it on the cart to dry and wear the other one for a while.

I have not. I wonder if TaylorMade makes any (I'll go look). I have all TM stuff and while I am not advertising it would be nice to stay consistent (just in case they want to sign me )

I started wearing Under Armour golf hats and I have had zero sweat issues in fact they don't even get sweat lines.

I have the same problem.  I judge the temperature by how many hats I bring.  If it is a three hat day it is how and humid.  Buy unstructured hats, most of them can be washed.

I always bring a spare cap, few spare gloves, as well as spare golf shoes. Even keep s[pare pants and shirt in my locker at the club.

Not sure if TaylorMade has a similar hat but adidas does, I have a couple of them.  I also have some adidas hats that are actually made for the running crowd, they seem to be much better at wicking away moisture than a traditional cotton golf hat.  Nike also has some of these more high tech hats.

    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
