This is amazing!

My playing partner and I got to the clubhouse before our round when we notice this guy sitting at the bar with his shirt off and a bag of ice draped over his shoulder icing a section between his shoulder blades.

You can't even play without a collar let alone no shirt at all, so we went over to see what happened.

This was the absolute nastiest knot/bruise/hematoma/piece of hell/whatever you want to call it.. that I have ever seen on soft tissue.

He and his partner were off in the trees on the right side of the fairway looking for his ball, the 3-some behind them saw no sign of anyone ahead and set up to tee off. This guy decided to cut his loss and drop up by his buddy's 2nd shot since they already spent enough time looking and jumped in the cart.

They took off on a diagonal angle out of the trees and toward the green when the 1st of the 3some teed off. They never even saw the shot. He said they were motoring along to his buddy's ball when that guys tee shot split between both of their bags and tagged him on the spine between his shoulder blades.

This was 220 to 240 yds down range!! The odds of their cart angle, speed, location etc and someone's tee shot meeting like that are OFF THE CHARTS!! Perfectly splitting the gap between their bags and clubs?? Someone ticked off the golf gods or something.

I have never seen a golfer take one off the head but after seeing what a ball can do to your back, i'd hate to see what your noggin would look like.

This reminds me of when Sergio nailed the photographer with a 4I at the British Open, last year. Hit him right on the noggin and knocked him down.

More recently, Tiger drilled a marshall right off the noggin, too. His injuries were much worse.

I've been hit three times. Two times at my mom's old place, she was about 200 yrds down from some tee boxes (to the left even) and I was hit in the back of my leg twice...short sting nothing bad...but I did get mad b/c there was no warning call.

The first time was with a buddy, I was going down to a lookout, to watch his drive and was almost to the protective screen when I heard some crashing in the trees behind me and then whack, I was hit in the chest about two inches from the breastplate on the right side (left side over my heart would have probably killed me). I had an immediate welt, with golf ball dimple impressions that swelled to 2-3 times the size and lasted for over two weeks. This thing was some of the most intense pain I have ever felt. Needless to say I went balistic on my buddy since he did not wait for me to call out that I was clear and picked up his golf bag and threw it down the hill.

All I know is getting hit by a drive at close range (less than 30 yards) is excricuatingly painful...fell bad for that guy.

I've been hit three times, but none of them were serious. One of them was someone's 3-Wood tee shot, thankfully on the 18th hole that day, and it didn't really start stinging until about an hour later when I was home.

Sorry to hear about your friend getting hurt. Seriously, the folks hitting should know to always keep track of where the group ahead of them is. Maybe it just isn't that tough to keep track of at courses I play.

What would do more damage, to be hit by a drive 30 yards away or to be hit by an identical drive as its descending 240 yards down the fairway?

The drive 30 yards away. The golf ball is constantly decelerating from the time it leaves the club face. This is due to the resistance from the air.

I got tagged last year from real close range just below the elbow on the inside of my left arm. I was 20 yds in front and 20 yds to the back of a guy teeing off on a par three with his driver. As a walker, i wil lsometimes walk up the backside of a player, after all, how do you get hit when you are to the back of a players swing. Well, i'll tell you. Although a short hitter with a slow swing speed, in this instance my friend turned on the ball from overswinging, made great contact and hooked a pull all the way left which curved right into me. Dropped me like a stone. Luckily for me it was a scramble, so i grabbed his cart, drove to the kitchen and got a bag of ice and made it back to take my trurn putting. Played out the round icing between shots and then was out for a several days until the swelling went down.

Getting hit at close range is not fun. Almost as little fun as getting run over by a golf cart, but that's a whole nother story.

the difference would be life and death. haha

the ball loses a ton of speed from tee to green. I wouldnt want to be hit if it were 300 yds down range.

Oh he wasnt a friend, just some guy who had been hit earlier getting ice from the bar and sitting there. I said the same thing about the other party not seeing him but he kinda defended them. He said he spent too much time looking for his ball and that he couldnt see the tee box from where he was so there was no way they could have seen them either.

id be mad no matter what.

I remember hitting a workman at dusk-he was wearing a luminous jacket carrying out works at dusk on the course and i hit him from 190 with a 4 iron..he went down like he'd been shot-i ran as fast as i could with my bag to see if he was ok...he was lying on his back as id hit him in the back..he was hyperventilating badly-he gradually calmed down- his pain was matched by my worry...i honestly thought id killed him.

after a brief moment he went back to work and i went home.

Hopefully you chewed him out for ruining a well hit 4 iron. Actually, I’m surprised more course workers don’t get hit. They seem to forget there are golfers hitting golf balls all over the place. They have their iTunes on and hardly ever look up.

Me and my friend were on the 18th about 175 out, the guys were off the green and in their cart sitting beside the green about 50 feet off of it. My friend shot but somehow hit the guy in the back.. while he was inside the cart! He got so angry, he got out of the cart and started running down the fairway.

He went back in the cart and left. We went to talk to his playing partners after and apologized. Couldn't buy him a drink (we are not old enough). and they said he has anger problems so he just immediatly left before we could get off the course.

Very easily the drive 30 yards away due simply to the speed of the ball in early flight...
