He's an idiot. He has to. He's pretty much solidified his spot on the Ryder Cup team so now he should go out and get the experience playing against the World's best. Also, this could be his only shot at a major in his old age. He's the hottest player on tour right now and he needs to bring that momentum over to Europe.

He says he wont because he already committed to play in Milwaukee that week. Brandel Chamblee said it best...

"You're not Tiger Woods, Milwaukee can care less if you play there or not so go make the trip to Europe and compete."

Yes, he should play at The British Open in a couple weeks. It's definitely his choice in the end, but it's a shaky one at best. He would definitely be on the short list of favorites.

The majors must not be important to Kenny Perry. That's crazy!

I think he should. I understand why he is doing it but I don't agree with it and it appears to me he is taking the path of least resistance in the matter. Would he still be making these decisions to skip the US Open and The Open if the Ryder Cup was not held in his home state? What if he still comes up short on getting on to the team then what? Captain's pick? Not in my book if he skipped two majors. I'm not sure I would want someone on the team to begin with who skipped on two majors when otherwise able to compete in them no matter the reasoning.

If I'm Paul Azinger ( thankfully I'm not* ), I would be concerned about having a guy on my team who seems to want to avoid the highest-pressure tournaments.





*My apologies to any Zinger fans. I've just never really liked the guy's personality.

Doesn't make sense to me. The guy is playing the best golf probably of his life and he chooses at this time to skip the majors. I dont get it. Why people don't live for the now and not the future is boggling to me. Who cares about next year, a million things can happen to a person in the matter of a year. Play for now Kenny.

I've lost a lot of respect for Kenny Perry. The Ryder Cup is about two things (well, many more, but certainly also these two things):

1) playing against the world's best
2) playing for your country

So what's Kenny do? He skips his NATIONAL Open, and routinely fails to even try to compete against the best competition.

If he didn't qualify (unfortunately it seems he will) automatically, I wouldn't pick him if I were Paul. Guys playing a "home game" haven't done well in recent Ryder Cups and I don't like Kenny's attitude. Plus, I don't like the fact that he's "gaming" the numbers a bit, TRYING to get on the team.

That being said, he COULD be a good addition to the team. He's streaky. When he's on, look out. But when he's off, look out galleries. We'll see which Kenny shows up.

In the end your judged by how many majors you win, and you can't win if you don'y play. He's scared. I think Azinger should just boot him off the team no matter how many points he has lol.

Next year he may not be playing well. He is now a lock for the Ryder Cup so he should play the British Open while he is on a roll. Crazy not to.

I, like most people, think he should play in the British Open, but I am not going to lose any sleep over it. It's easy to say he is playing well now and should play, but I think he made this decission before he was winning and his "plan" to make the ryder cup is a reality. If he feels some obligation to Milwaukee , then good for him for sticking to his promise. But yeah, I would think he would want to take what may be his last good opportunity at winning a major.

Maybe he is somewhat frightned of playing a (truly) difficult event in case it should interrupt his momentum and hurt his chances for the Ryder cup.

Besides, he is playing so well, so why not stay a little closer to home and pick up some fast cash at the Milwaukee?

Because it's a major - a major that Tiger Woods is not playing in no less. Combined with the fact that he is playing so well right now that means his chances of winning one are higher than they are likely to ever be again. He'll probably have that shot 2 times for the rest of his career and he is throwing one of them away. To not play in the Open because of a prior engagement is one thing (if that truly is the reason), but to skip because he doesn't play well in Europe would just be cowardly for lack of a better word.

I love what he is doing.

I am lucky to live in an area with about a billion golf courses. There are several courses that I do not like at all. I have had really bad rounds, or they are boring, and guess what...I am not going to waste my time or money playing them.

So, since Kenny does not like Torrey Pines or links style golf...I think his strategy is brilliant. This Ryder Cup is HIS major. It is at home. It is on a course that he feels owes him one.

I would bet you my week's pay that Kenny thinks about that 1996 PGA every single day. It has been eating at him for 12 god forsaken years and he feels like this is his chance at redemption.

Listen....most of the United States does not give a flying fark about the Ryder Cup. I know that I sure don't. The only reason I will be watching is Kenny Perry. We might get to see an exorcism live on TV.

I am from a non Ryder Cup country but am a big fan of the event. I honestly believe that the US Team would be better off without someone who chose not to qualify / play in the US Open and the British Open. They are the two premier tests of golf each year and I think golfers should be excluded from representing their country if they don't play these two majors. (Missing through injury not counting of course)

I would hazard a guess that you, then, are in the minority on that point.

Well this post just about encapsulates everything that's wrong with golf in the states in my opinion . Rather than play in the oldest and most prestigious championship in the world he should stay in Milwakee and get some fast cash little wonder you guys keep getting your arses kicked in the Ryder Cup.

      Day 134 (26 Apr 24) - played Minnesott today, worked with the mid-irons and approaches (especially the 7i).  Scoring was a little higher, but I was focused on making the needed adjustments to the swing to achieve desired distances.

      I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.

      Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
