I enjoy golf a lot, and I enjoy practicing a lot. The greatest satisfaction for me comes with the irons and wedges. Hitting a shot that may not be necessary but yet challenging. Like say a flop shot, when nothing is obstructing your shot, or working a ball right to left, for now reason other then because you want to. I love to practice more then anything else. I've decided that I would like to purchase a used set of blades to test my ball striking ability and to play practice rounds/ practice with. What is a quality blade that may be a few years that you guys would recommend going with, and what would the rough cost be give or take because it's tough to estimate the condition?

in my opinion the best blades new or used are the mizzuno mp 37's. mizuno stopped making them a couple years ago, and were on there signature series up until a couple months ago. they are going on ebay for 180-360. good luck

The Mizuno MP -30's http://www.2ndgolf.com/picture/pmp30.jpg They are unbelieveably soft and workable. They are a tour classic!

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

I got a set of Mizuno MP14s last fall just for practice. I got totally ripped because they were covered in bag chatter (no biggie) and the grooves are quite worn. But desperate for a set that week, I spent $200 for 2-PW. I did see a set of MP33s this week that must have been carried with clubhead covers. They looked very good but from the 7 iron down the sweet spots were worn down to the bare metal about the size of a golf ball. They were 3-pw w/ TTDG S400s and they were asking $200. I wish I had held out for them.

Does the mp-32 seem to be one of the best values out there? I'm saying gently used on ebay pretty cheap.

mp33's are what I play and they are the greatest. easy to hit, feel buttery, lots of feedback, look great, work the ball, club feels great to swing.

I have played my best rounds this year with the mp33, 3 under and two 1 under rounds.

MP33's runs from $150 - $350 depending on the condition, I bought my 2 years ago for $250.

know what shaft you want the dynamic gold regular is 127 grams and the Nippon golf shaft are under 100 grams. I play the regular dynamic gold.

many golf stores carry used set so bring in your iron and compare them with other baldes you might consider.

You know, there some other manufacturers in addition to Mizuno out there who make good, older, proper blades if you want some to practice with.

How about Wilson? Excellent manufacturer before the 90s. If you can get their FG17s I'd wholeheartedly recommend them - their new FG59s are a tribute to these clubs. I grew up playing these and they're awesome. Or try any of their older 'fluid feel' or 'Staff' blades from the 70s and 80s. How about Hogan apex irons? Don't come much better than this and as soft as they come. MacGregor?? Made fantastic, classic blades for years. I've recently gone back to their 1025Ms which are not that old but really are excellent. If you can find the 'Muirfield' blades, try them. Titleist? Pretty much known for good blades; must be loads to choose from. Powerbilt? Ever seen these? Look them up. Good blades. Ram? Some classic blades in the 80s. Very good; must have been - Watson used them for years. These guys on eBay sometimes have some decent older stuff: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Forged-Heaven-Golf

These are not blades. Good clubs, yes. Blades, no. They're a bit expensive used as well because of their reputation i.e. the cut-muscle back was (I think) the first of its type.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I have an old set of Mizuno MP-14 irons that are mostly used on the practice range that I really love. If I didn't have so much invested in my MP-57 set, I would surely have the MP-14s in the bag. The MP-29 irons are really nice as well. Actually, since Mizuno makes the world's finest irons, you really can't go wrong with any of their offerings. When Tiger was making his way up the ranks he used a 're-labeled' Mizuno. If you scour the pawn shops then I am sure that you can find an old set of blades in any brand that will be great for your intended purpose.

Callway preowned has about 30 sets of right handed MP-32 ( which may not be 100% blades but man the cavity is about the size of part of a pinky finger) in just about every configuration you can think of for good prices and they are reputable so you know you are getting authentic gear probaly in better condition than they say they are. If you want some component heads to put together your own set check out ravengolfclubs website because they have some nice blades. I just got mine in lefty so I couldn't get there tourspec version but these are blades for sure and the clubheads are small and will really make you work on you swing i'm sure. I got the clubheads for 16.95 apiece and the shafts came from golfsmith because I wanted them pured and my grips cost 2.77 apiece. So total 239 bucks for a custom set of blades.
