This year I'm looking for a better driver for my game. I want to get fit for a club with the right loft and shaft specs, but I am caught between a few models. Anyone have advice on these drivers?

1. Cobra S9-1
2. PING G10 (older but it would match my 3 wood which I love)
3. Taylor Made R9 (looks so tempting)
4. Taylor Made Burner
5. Titleist 909 D2 or 3

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Overall the G10 has a nice low ball flight, but if u can controll the TM with the longer shafts you should notice a difference in your driving distances with them.

I chose to go with the Titleist 909 D2. I tried the other drivers you have on your list and my order would be.

1. Titleist 909 D2
2. Cobra S9-1 (Pro or F)
3. Ping

To be honest, I am not a huge fan of Taylor Made. Hope that helps.

I've heard great things about the Adams Insight Tech A4 Driver. But you can't go wrong with the R9 driver.

I think the best out there are either the G10 or the D2. I think Ping drivers since the G2 have all been great (and reasonably priced). They are really forgiving, easy-to-hit, and very neutral flight which is important to me. The only thing better about the D2 is that is seems a little more precise, whereas the G10 seems to have a little less feedback.

Also worth considering is the Adams Speedline. I am not in the market for a new driver (or at least I wasn't), but decided to try it out and was very impressed. I do not like larger drivers and though the speedline looked smaller at address (even though it's 454cc or something along those lines). I also really liked the way it felt. I'm not sure about the standard shaft option, but I did like the club more than just about any other driver I have hit for the last couple years. I typically hit almost all new drivers (as well as irons and hybrids) when they come out and this is the first one in a couple years that I have liked all around (except maybe the Titleist 909D3).

I don't really like Cobra drivers that much because of the sound, but they perform very well. The last Cobra I hit was the L4V. Does the S9 have a closed face like most other Cobras or is neutral.

The PING G10 is very easy to hit. It's very nice looking too. I've heard from PING-haters that it's not much better than the G5 and isn't really worth it. I think it's different and a very good club. I haven't seen the R9, but the R7s were amazing. TM makes good drivers...just way too many. I'm not a fan of the new Burners at all. Last year's Tour Burners I liked, but not the regular Buners. I haven't used any of the 909s, but if they are any bit as good as the 907s or previous models... You really can't go wrong with any of your choices. They are all solid clubs made by top brands. I would recommend that you look at the FT-9. IMO, it's an improvement over the FT-5 in terms of sound and feel. Don't be adverse to looking at some other models or brands.

I've been rebuilding my bag over the winter and after being a Nike guy for a while I have found that I really enjoy the Cleveland line of products. Nike is good too, I just seem to hit better with the Cleveland stuff.

Therefore, I have found that I really love the new Cleveland Launcher. The club has a classic look at address (aside from the goofy alignment logo) and I dig the classy look on the sole.

As far as performance goes, this club was (for me anyway) a nice mixture of workability, forgiveness, and distance.

It may not be for you, but I'd give it a shot at least.

I have the Taylormade burner. I like it. It might be my shaft that I don't love.

I demoed the G10 with the red prolaunch shaft, I LOVED it. I've been looking to get one cheap at ebay. They are still >$200.

Golf.com loved the cobra L4V. I assume the 5 is probably good.

Please let us know what you chose and how it hit. I am also trying to upgrade my driver.

I've heard great things about the Adams Insight Tech A4 Driver. But you can't go wrong with the R9 driver.

How do you figure? Have you or many people on this or other boards actually hit it with good results or are you just following the TM marketing hype?

The A4 has been out for a while and had pretty good results with many players.

I came back to the game 10 months ago after a 5 year lay off from the game. I've had some wrist and knee issues that I'm workin through...but they've interupted my play....stopping to heal for a month or so with each injury.

I say all that to say this.....3 months after returning I was striking the ball about as good as I was prior to laying off.....with every club except driver. I just couldn't make it happen off the tee.

I was fitted for and ordered my G10 and the very first round I gamed it was dynamite. The club has me now hitting nice drives with optimum carry....something that I struggled with before. The clubhead is extremely forgiving and hot. The shaft is a perfect match for me.

I used to be one of those guys that would add a new driver to the bag every year......no more. The G10 is staying in the bag for a long time.

PING hit a homerun with this one. The V2 shaft offered was the right one for me.....they offer two other shafts that may be best for you.....get fitted and see.

The game is loads more fun when you are in the right spots off the tee.

Good luck with your decision.....there are many great choices out there.

The driver hypes itself. There's been at least 30 players using the R9 each week of the Tour since the Bob Hope, when it came out.

out of the drivers you listed, i have hit the TM R9, Burner, and 909's. My opinion is the TM drivers are money. i wasnt a fan of last years Burner driver, but this years Burner is awesome. i love it, it feels hotter and more forgiving to me. i really didnt like the 909 at all though.

Isn't the point of fitting to "get fitted" so that you can end up with the right club rather than reading posts where people talk about their own drivers?

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

And if it really works, as the saying goes, buy the Demo you hit, as no two clubs, exactly the same, really play the exact same due to the nature of graphite and the assembly process of the head and the finsihed club.

I'd second on the cleveland Launcher. Or the new Hi Bore XLS Monster. If you are a better player and want a classic looking workable club Id go for the new Launcher-or at least try it. I have the 3 wood-excellent club and has great reviews. Decent price too

The Adams 9015D looks like a sweet driver. From that list of drivers, you can't go wrong with any, as long as it fits you. It's up to you to decide which one suits your preference/eye and the fitter to maximize its performances.
