I played in a local tournament yesterday, and at the turn we ran in and grabbed a drink and snacks. When we came back out, I was about to get in the cart, and noticed my bag didnt look quite right. I looked again, and my fears were confirmed: My Bushnell Pinseeker 1500 rangefinder and case had been taken off my bag, the straps cut with a knife. Gone. No idea who or why. Nobody outside had seen anything. $450 bucks down the drain. I am sick, mad, hurt, so many emotions I don't know what I am. I have personally never had anything stolen from me at the course before. The real salt-in-the-wound is that I know or am familar with every single person that was in the tournament. Who has the nads to walk up to a bag on a cart, knowing that the owner could walk out at any second, and cut a case off a bag, knowing that if anyone seen you cutting a case off, they immedietly know you are stealing. The club pro agreed to keep an eye out for it, as well as a lot of the regulars. A few told me to offer a no-questions-asked reward and maybe can get it back for $100 or so, but to me that would be even worse, paying someone to get my property back. What do you do???!!!!!!!!!!!!

no, no cameras around. Nobody seen anything, although there were a good many people around.

I will never be able to comfortably walk away from my bag again. I guess I will have to look into a locking golf bag, if they make such a thing. I literally feel sick to my stomach.......

Sorry to hear that, getting stolen from sucks.

Back when I was in high school, my car got broken into in the school parking lot while I was in class. They smashed the driver side window and stole my CD deck, all of my CD's and an ice scraper. The cops never did anything except take down the serial number of my CD player incase it showed up at a pawn shop. They never dusted for prints or anything and the school wasn't held responsible at all. It's really frustrating when you get something valuable stolen from you and there's not much anyone can do to help.

Sorry to hear that, getting stolen from sucks.

dusting for prints seems like its a made for tv thing

my friend and his family was away on vacation, and were broken into and literally had everything in their house stolen, im talking electronics, artwork, money, clothes, jewelery even some of their furniture was taken, basically anything sellable. They didnt even dust for prints, the cops showed up asked a couple questions and left. Luckily insurance covered.

Sorry to hear that. Had balls taken before and an original Ping Anser putter but nothing of that value or apparently so brazenly. Hope you get it back.

That sucks man. My bet would be that it was someone not affiliated with the tournament at all. If it was a tournament with foursomes, that would most likely mean there was more than one guy involved, which seems pretty unlikely to find two scumbags in the same tournament.

Probably someone waiting for golfers to make the turn and grab what they can. I feel for you man.

Fortunately, only an umbrella that i did leave in the cart. I went back about 20 minutes later and it was gone. Since i played there all the time, the people that worked there wouldn't have taken it. Someone else did.

But, that's small potatoes.

Man...sorry to hear that. I had my entire golf bag stolen about 4 years ago while checking in at a local muni. It was supposed to be my first round of the season, but I think it was some stupid high school kids who were at practice that took off with it. Worst part was that my car keys and my cell phone were in my bag! Oh! I'm super paranoid about leaving my clubs around ANYWHERE now.

I don't even know you and that just ticks me off. My condolences. I just got a rangefinder for my son and I'm worried that someone will try to lift it from him.

Gentleman's sport, right?

Nope, but I have buddies that have been ripped off. My SG5 is always in one of two places when at the course.....on the C clamp mount when I'm in the cart, or on my belt clip when I'm not. I belt it every single time I leave the cart for just that reason.

I did drop a nice pair of Oakley's on 8th tee once and was unable to find them when I realized they were missing. Fortunately some kind soul actually turned them in and I was reunited with them the next day. It's kind of sick in a way that I was so surprised that someone turned them in instead of walking off with them. It's a shame that sort of thing is surprising instead of the norm.

I've been eyeing a set of Mizuno MP-57's but just can't pull the trigger on buying them. I've been leaving my truck open hoping someone would steal my set just to make the decision easier. Of course they would have to leave my driver, wedge set and putter...

That sucks someone stealing the range finder. Hope it works out for you...

I am always sorry to hear about stuff getting stolen at a golf course. At the course where I work we average 2-3 complete bags stolen every year. We aren't in a bad area but we are extremely busy in the summer time and people just leave their bags outside the proshop or restaurant.

I am completely paranoid about it. I never leave my clubs unattended. When I go into the cafe at my course my clubs go in with me.

A few years ago we had a bag stolen from a cop. He and his buddy saw the guy drive away. They went straight to the local Play It Again Sports store and waited. Not 5 minutes later the guy drives up with his bag. They slapped the cuffs on him right there. It's the only time I have ever heard of anyone getting their stuff back or the thief getting what they deserve.

That's awesome!! Glad to hear that I really hate people like this.

My buddy is notorious for leaving wedges on the side of the green ... infact he has lost his, two of his dad's and one of our other buddy's (I won't let him borrow mine ...) I have never had anything stolen, but I have also switched to generic wood/iron/putter head covers just to eliminate that possibility ... trying to keep my bag as non-descript as possible I feel is one's best defense against theivery ...

    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
    • day 34. Technique practice. Became too quick and outcome oriented. need to slow down and work on technique again.
    • Day 534, April 18, 2024 Practice before lessons today. Priority piece. No sim this time. 🙂
