to hit my TM forged 2005 players irons consistently.

Last year after I had demoed a +1/2" 7 iron with a stiff shaft I picked up a set off Ebay for 300-350 in great condition. I really loved the looks of the irons and seemed to have no problem with them at first.

I guess over the winter I lost the ability to hit them consistently.

For now I have switched back to my Taylor Made OS2 irons with standard flex shafts. I added new midsize grips and extended them to + 1/2".

The one round I played over the weekend I was hitting nice consistent shots and hitting greens. Unfortunately I was going long so it looks like I need to figure out the distance of the irons again.

Has anyone else moved back to GI irons after hitting players irons ?

I bought the 690.CB irons from Titleist since they were cheap. Can't hit them at all. Last round with them was a 9-hole round and I shot a 54.

Switched back to my trusty old clones and shot an 81 on 18. Ball-striking has been great now.

I don't think I'll ever go back to GI irons. Since I bought my Mizuno's, my ball striking has gotten a lot better, since you need to be so precise.

I think I made the right move.

Today and shot an 89 for only the third time since I started. 5 gir's, 1 birdie, 3 pars and 6 par attempts.

I stuck a 6 iron a few feet from the hole on a 176 yard par 3 and made the short birdie putt.

I do wish the irons hit a little lower trajectory... they really sky rocket up but land soft. With the gusty/swirly winds today it was hard to predict what the ball was going to do.

Overall I am happy I got the ego in check and switched back to them.

Mix em up and keep the pro clubs in the shorter irons for control. Are you having any problems with the 8-pw?

No problem with the shorter irons. I might try that later.

to hit my TM forged 2005 players irons consistently.

I did the same thing. Loved the look and feel of the AP2's, but I can't hit them consistently on the course. I switched back this week to my old King Cobras and yesterday I broke 80 for the first time this year. I'd been stuck at 85-88 ever since I started using the new Titleists, so it looks like I just don't have a consistent enough swing to use those player's cavities...

The good news is that I'm looking forward to my tournament this weekend, and that wasn't the case so much a week ago.

I picked up the Ap2's last year in the summer and was hitting them great all year.. after the winter break my iron play went to crap.. i would go around and hit mostly solid shots averaging 12+ greens a round. first two times out i couldn't hit them solid to save my life.

I've been to the range 3 times this week working on irons and now I've got confidence in them again ..

I've been in the 30's all 3 9's I've played this year but strangely enough it's been more from short game.

we'll see how they do tomorrow.

Resist the urge, resit, resist, resist

LT's and LT2's IMO are some of the most underrated irons ever made.

I loved mine, held on to them longer than any other set in recent memory

I have an agreement with myself that I have to get my handicap to 10 before I consider buying any non-GI irons. I have had moments of weakness but have kept my agreement for the past 2 years. My thinking is that by then, my ball striking should be good enough get some of the workability benefits.
Should I change this agreement to <5?

Shot another 89 today and was so close to 87 or 88.

One the first Tee I was rushed out to join a 3 some. I didn't even have a chance to hit any practice putts and went to the Tee cold so I doubled the first hole and 3 putted the second hole.

On the back 9 I missed a 5 foot birdie putt after hitting my 8 iron into the green

I know for a fact that if I had not changed I would have added at least 2 strokes... On a par 3 over water I hit my 8 iron out on the toe a little and the shot hit just short of the green but made it over the water.

A guy I play with/against has the TM Racs, I hit them on the range and liked them, very nice.

I am taking a long hard look at the TM R7 Irons that are selling for 399. Little more offset then my current irons...but if they are good enough for Kenny, they should be just fine for me. My irons are getting worn out, time for a new set late this summer.

Yes you should. Kenny Perry plays the standard R7 irons, not the TP model which has less offset and is a smaller head. The standard R7 irons would be considered GI irons (not Super GI irons mind you).

Damn...Trevor Immelman plays the Nike VR Split Cavity, which is not the Tiger Woods Blade model.
