Driver Tee Height

I've been playing with tee height using my driver. I seem to hit much more consistently and straighter when I have the ball teed up only 1/2". Anyone else tee it up real low? I was getting good distance as well. Probably due to better contact than anything else.

I used to tee the ball up so the top half was above my driver, now I tee it up lower (only about the top 1/4 or 1/8th ish is above now). I feel like i hit the ball more solid with it teed lower, and teed high I tend to get too high a ball flight sometimes.

I've been using the white tees that have the blue bands around them...TPS, I think is the name.

I push 'em down until the blue band is in the ground....puts the equator of my ball just below the topline.

These tees are awesome.

On hole where I drive in the wind I'll set it up lower.

I've teeing it up the same height I would with my fairway wood or hybrid. Guess no one else does. Wonder if this a quick fix that won't work long.

Your tee hight should be respective to what type of shot you're trying to hit. The problem with teeing the ball low is it creates more spin and consquently your misses will have a higher deviation. You want to hit the ball of the high side of your driver club face, this creates less spin and stronger trajectory. Even im hitting a driver punch into the wind, im typically will tee the ball high. However, teeing the ball low is also an effective way for lower trajectory.

4 inch tees with close to 3.75 inches of exposed tee, so the ball is a good 1-2 inches above a grounded driver. ball is hit either in front of left toe or even (im a righty) so way up front is the ball at address. SS is 115 and a good drive goes 270-320. A bad drive is topped directly into the tee! I lift my left shoulder at the last second...nasty baseball habit.

I use a step down tee like the image below for Driver. It ensures I tee the ball up at the same height every time

I tee it up a half ball above the soled driver. To everyone who tees it up low, I would be very wary of this. You could be losing alot of distance because of this. Doing this you will have a tendency to hit the driver with a downard strike, increasing back spin and losing distance.

I have a buddy who does this. He swings 10 miles an hour faster than me but I keep up with him no problem. He swings around 110 and only hits it about 250-260.

Also, into a stiff wind I actually tee it up higher so I can really try to hit up on it to minimize the back spin so it cuts through the wind better. I have had alot of success doing this.

I'm guessing your baseball career began with T-ball?? Who was the LPGA player who used a pencil as a tee? She would put the ball where the eraser was removed... To the OP, I tee mine so that the top of the ball is just a dimple or two above the top of the driver, that is, unless I don't....

My tee height varys depending on the type of shot I want to hit. I have a standard height but I don't know what it is. I can tell by looking at it when it is in the ground. Sometimes if the hole is really open I will go a little higher and try and play a high draw to get extra roll. If the hole is tight I might tee it a little lower and just go for the control without being concerned with the distance as much. I know I might lose 10-15 yards off my regular drive, but not being in the rough or OB is worth it. I just never know what I want to do until I am on the box.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Does physical height come in to play on your stance or tee height ?
I've been experimenting with different stances and found I get more distance
when the ball is more towards the middle of my stance.

I use a 2 3/4 " T and I tee it up about 2"

I play around with my tee height quite often. My standard height is half the ball above driver or a little higher. I like to tee it high and feel that I can control the ball a little better when I do. I did go through a phase a while back that I would tee it very low and hit straight line drives and not lose distance because of the added roll. I feel that I have a lot more control with a high tee though.

I bought these tees in a senseless moment, and I know it's probably bunk, but I have been driving the ball beautifully now for every round that I've had them, except for a couple "stupid" shots. They come in a little box of ten, and so far, I've been using the same 1 tee for the last 7 rounds!! Hows THAT???

I wouldn't call it total 'bunk' I believe that consistency is absolutely key when teeing the ball up as a mid-high handicapper. This is not to say that messing around with tee heights isn't a good idea, in fact, I think it's the opposite. Test different heights and just find one that's comfortable and effective and try to come up with a system to assure that the ball is that exact height every time. It will build your confidence, most likely, and definitely give you one less thing to worry about when you're standing over the ball looking out into a bunker or water lined fairway.

      He plays from 68.3 / 124.  A combo tee setup of normal mens and seniors.   I play from 69.7/127.   He left after taking a triple on 14 and then leaving.  Which plays to what I think his plan is,   He doesn’t stroke on 14 but would have to take bogey for non completed holes on the way in.   Maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he found a way to add 4 shots to his score over three holes so….     I looked up his last 20 rounds in GHIN and he has a lot of rounds at easier courses (rating and slope) that are higher than his normal rounds at home.   Since I mostly have his front nine score during the match (36) to go on, he has three nine hole scores at our course posted that are 41-43. I wrote the whole thing up to the head of our golf association who runs all the tournaments.  Our pro is not involved officially in the tournaments because the golf associations are separate from the club.   He’s pretty well known for this, however I was pretty shocked at how well he played carrying a 15.   I think eventually they will do something, a lot of people have complained.  The golf association threw someone out a couple of years ago and it was a three month situation where the guy retaliated.  They probably are hesitant to go thru anything like that again.  That is a rather crazy story I might post about later.
