Any of you use or have sentimental or meaningful ballmarkers? If not do you have a ballmarker of choice? I have quarters of the states where all of my immediate family lives (ca, ma, in, sc, and nv). I find I use those more than my SC ballmarker...

I grew up in Eastern North Carolina.

One of my grandfathers was a Duke University graduate.

My father, grandfather and I each took up golf within the same year...unknown to each other. Granddad was retired, Dad was in his late 40's and I was fresh out of college (graduated from East Carolina University...may explain my poor spelling at times).

We played several rounds a year together at the only course on the island that my granfather retired on....later on Dad retired there as well and joined the same course (now it is sadly in poor finances due to poor management and most of the solid members have gone to the mainland to join another great course with much better greens).

Anyway....Granddad was mighty high on his Duke Blue Devils and followed their athletic endeavors closely.

After his passing, I took to carrying a Duke Blue Devils ball mark repair tool.

I take great satisfaction when I have to use it. I'll whip it out and repair multiple ball marks that other's leave and think that my Granddad would approve of such "course improvements" and enormous satisfaction when I stiff a wedge or iron in tight and repair a mark close to the pin. I know he'd applaud the shot that made the mark.

I also have a simular tool with my college mascot.....using it just doesn't impart the same satisfaction that the Duke tool does.

I found a silver dollar on the course when I was a kid, probably around age 11. I used it to mark my ball that day as a joke and it stuck. That dollar has been in my wallet everyday since. I've also used it to mark my ball in every round since. In high school it was known as "the manhole cover" and screwed with more heads than I can dare to count. I always carried a dime too, and offered to use that when I might have been anywhere near somebody's line, but they always said no and, subsequently, always proceeded to miss the put "away from the dollar." Go figure. I can only remember one time that somebody hit the dollar, it wasn't pretty.

This is a really stupid and noob question I know it, but why are some ballmarkers magnetic?

There is a small metal ball inside all golf balls so if you use a magnetic ball marker it will pull your partners ball out of alignment and he will miss the putt.

magnetic ballmarkers are used to attach to things like hats, hat clips, divot tools, etc. The funtion of the magnet is solely for placement and storage (so to speak) of the marker, if that makes sense. I am looking for one in the event that I decide to use one and not quarters...

Thanks.. I figured it had to do with storage I just wasn't exactly sure where golfers stored them.
