I played today in a group of five. 18 holes on a short (5800 yd) course took 7 hours and 15 minutes. I've never spent that long on a course unless I was drunk and passed out. I think every other group on the course got to play through us at least once.

I am completely exhausted. Can't wait to get back out and play a round by myself at normal speed. We had a great time, yeah even that slow it was still fun, but WOW... 7+ hours?

Wow, that's a long round. The short rain showers this afternoon scared a lot of people off the course today, and we finished 18 in 4 hours flat. It's nice when there's noone in front or behind you, and you can play your game at your speed.

Other than the fact that there were five people, what happened that was so slow? Were they good but deliberate players? Were they bad but deliberate players?

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Many years ago, we were sitting around the barracks tossing a few back before we went out to the club, much like we did any other Friday night when somebody suggested we go play golf Saturday Morning. Since I was the only golfer in the gang they all turned to me and asked if I would take them golfing. Well you don't say no to a fellow Light Fighter so after a night of hard drinking we eventually made it to the golf course sometime on Saturday.

We payed to play 18 holes and set out on our adventure. To say it was slow would be a injustice to the word "slow",,,it was beyond slow. I'm not sure but I think we were passed by a snail and a tree sloth! My three buddies tried thier best but after +4 hours of duffs, tops, slashes, gouges, and hacks we finally finished the front nine. They didn't want to go on any longer so we went straight to the 19th hole at that point.

Funny, but they never asked to go play golf again(Thank God)!!!!

I am admittedly a slow player. In fact I have stated as much here on this forum. A four hour round for me is normal.

In our group was one of my nephews, a first time golfer that truly did not have a clue. Another one of my nephews has played some, but isn't all that good. A lot of our time was spent helping those two with their swing, and looking for their shanks. More time was spent waiting to allow other faster groups play through us.

Fortunately the course was, and usually is, very slow. So we didn't have to worry about being "in the way".

The other three of us played a pretty decent round. For the first time ever, I finished a round with the same ball I started with.

As far as the comment from mrserv0n18. We were only in the way of any group for half of any one hole. When we saw a group coming up from behind would stop to allow them through. In fact, on two occasions I walked back to ask different groups if they would like to play through. I could start an argument with a snappy retort, but like your comment, that would serve no real purpose.

we golfed 9 (suppose to be 18) this past w/e
normal round should be 4.5 hrs on this course...it's quite long - 7300 from the tips and 6900 from the next set of tees, where i played)

nine holes took us 4.5 hrs...YES 9 HOLES!!!!!
the marshall made a group ahead of us skip 3 holes and it sorta cleared up
they were good in the clubhouse though, as they refunded us for nine

was pretty hard to golf in that though

At bethpage, ive had some rounds close to 6 hours, but nothing coming close to 7. And on a 5500 yard course, no less. I cant explain why it would take that long...

Last weekend, my dad and I went to play a course nearby that I had never played. We paid for a cart and 9 holes, which took nearly 3 hours.

We had a group of college kids in front of us that had no idea how to golf, or to let faster players play through. Made me wonder what the ranger was doing instead of kicking these hackers out.

Did you take 3 hours for lunch? If your nines were comparable, I think you had a responsibility at the turn to split your group up into manageable (speed + ability) numbers, i.e., threesome/twosome. It doesn't matter how many groups played through, your group was spoiling golf for everyone who teed off after you did at that pace. Think about it.

I also hate slow golfers. Even when I was a 40+ hcp, I maintained the pace of play.
