  1. 1. Jumbo grips better for which type of stroke?

    • Square to Square
      17
    • Swinging Gate
      2
    • Doesn't really matter

We have all seen the huge putter grips. My understanding is that several tour pro's use them (although I don't remember seeing any). Anyway, what are your thoughts as to which type of stroke the jumbo grip helps more? "Square-to-square" or "Swinging-gate." Or, do we chalk this up to "it doesn't matter, just personal preference."
My initial thought is that the fat putter grip would benefit a square-to-square stroke more, but I'm curious about other points of view.

I experiemented with numerous different putter types, grips and strokes in '08. This is what I found to be the case for me.

I found what I like for this year and have essentially left it alone....with no plans to change. Anser style putters with slimmer grips (flat front on the grip).

Same here. I have no problem with keeping my wrists locked with a thin grip. When I was looking at putters I did about equal with a blade and arc stroke vs. a mallet with straight stroke, so I got the blade because of the exceptional distance control compared to a big mallet. Once you get used to it, a gated stroke feels better and more natural than a square to suare stroke. I hate how with mallets you barely tap it and it takes off like a rocket. In my opinion mallets are only good for short putts say less than 8 feet because of the ease of alignment, but to each their own.

those grips are made to help people stop breaking their wrists. it doesnt really matter what stroke but they are generally made to have people more hunched over

Thanks for the input guys. I am and always have been a square to square guy. Up until this year, I have actually used a blade style putter too (which was not a happy marriage for obvious reasons). This season, I've been using a mallet putter (face balanced) with my same stroke and have had more success. I find the jumbo putter grip interesting but my biggest fear is loosing to much distance control. I think I'll stick to traditional putter grip for now.

I had one on my TM Mezza Monza and I liked it at first. It really helped with my wrists, but I had to get rid of it. I couldn't get used to the added weight. They are heavy!

I use a oversize grip on my putter.I like it as it helped me erase wrist break.I have a mallet type putter plus i got big hands. My buddy had one on a blade ping
putter which i used for a day while mine was being re-shafted.It was awful, the putter was top heavy, unbalanced,i couldn't putt with it.

I have a jumbo grip on my putter for about a month now and just played last Sunday with a scrambling round:

26 putts, 13 putt front and 13 putt back nine including a 30+ footer to save par.
9 out of 12 up and down.

I not only changed my grip but my putting stance also.

The poll is missing a choice: " Jumbo putter grips are not better for any type of putting stroke."

lol

People are desperate for any thing once the putting goes bad. Long putter, belly putter, cross hand grip, claw grip, jumbo grip, etc...

Whenever you encounter someone using one of these odd putting habits, you just know they are mental and can't putt. Time to up the ante of the bet!

Anyone any update on this. I just bought a SuperStroke grip after being impressed with KJ during the Masters. anyone used this grip?

I definetly get a bit twitchy with my hands when putting so am hopeful for some assitance/beneift from the grip.
