What are your thoughts on putters with and without inserts? Personally I love the feel, and look, of putters without inserts. I feel as if I can roll the ball better and because of the feedback I get it's as if my touch is really great. So, the question is, insert or no insert?

I have grown to love the insert. I just like the softer feel off the putter face. I have problems with my distance control and have been told I putt with my driver power. I guess I just feel better with the insert.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I tried an insert putter earlier this year (Odyssey WHT #2) and never could get used to the feel of the insert. I've since sold that putter and gone back to one w/out an insert.

I think that it all just boils down to what feels right to you. The insert did not feel right to me.

I currently play with no insert (gives a lot of feel)

No insert for me. Ive tried a few Odyssey putters and I just dont care for the lack of feel you get with an insert putter.

definately no insert if you want to putt well in my opinion. inserts take away what all great putters had and that is feel. i'm sorry but you could have the best stroke in the world and hit every putt exactly where you aim but if you hit it too hard through the break or leave it short and in the heart it doesn't really matter how good your stroke is. inserts just dont provide the feedback needed to putt well. I'm not just bias to camerons i really like(and used to own) a ping karsten series. even the becu pings are great putters. just my 2cents though.

I had an Ody 2 ball and Scotty Cameron Newport II with teryllium face. They are great putters. Generally speaking, I prefer not having inserts. But there is no real reason for this, largely an aesthetic preference I guess for me. Now using the Rife Antigua, no insert, love it. Don't see any other insert putters in my future. But again, the preference is largely aesthetic for me. By far the more important thing is how you like the feel of the putter.

it changes for every person. no insert can work for you but i putted just as well with the cameron kombi as i did with my sabertooth. steve stricker uses an insert putter and so do tim clark, padraig harrington and jim furyk just to mention a few.

It depends what you want and what works for you. Some people prefer the feel of a non-insert, but the ball also tend to hop a bit more coming off of the clubface. With an insert putter you lose some feel, but the ball doesnt take as much of a hop.

I am not a fan of inserts, I have never tried them on the course, but have putter with them in the stores. I never felt like I got a true feel for the putter, I have found my "soul mate" putter in the Scotty Cameron Circa 62 #3!
