When are you going to change your wedges?

I am curious to when people are going to change to conforming wedges per the change by the USGA/R&A.;

I personally and not going to change until 2014 and wondering what others are going to do and why?

The reason I am not changing until I have to is I don't want to put myself at a disadvantage in local tourneys I will be playing in. I also see good deals being had on non-conforming wedges in the next 2 years and I love new wedges.

I have yet to complete my wedge set and will probably keep my wedges even after 2014. I dont play in tournaments and almost everyone I play golf with has no idea about the conforming date or what it means.

I've looked at the new wedges but I don't see the need to purchase anything new. I'll still be able to use my wedges in my clubs tournements, and since my chances of playing on tour are non existant I think I'm ok with what I have. I also heard an interview with Mr. Vokey where he said he feels wedges break in to a players swing. So in not so many words no I'm keeping what I have.

I will change when I feel that my current wedges are too worn out for play or I happen to have the money to get something new. Not worried about the rule though.

I'll make the change whenever it comes time to buy new ones. My decision will simply be based on whether I need, them not on what the grooves look like.

I learned to play golf and played for at least 15 years with irons which had V grooves before the U groove became prevalent. My current AP2 irons (5I-PW) except for my wedges have conforming grooves and they work just fine.

Some people just make way to much of this. The sky isn't really falling, despite what Chicken Little says.

I agree I don't think it will be that big of deal. Yesterday hit a gap wedge out of a ditch with high grass thinking the ball would land and roll out.....it didn't it spun back about a foot leaving a 25 footer. SO I don't think the grooves are going to be a big deal, will probably actually help in some instances, maybe.

I don't think it will be that big of deal either but it will make a difference. I am going to use it to hopefully get a really good deal. I do see a difference in brand new and one year old wedges and I expect that to be about the difference in the new grooves (to perform like a 1 year old wedge with the MD grooves or something similar).

Curious to what people do that play competitively.

As far as I understand the new rules, I could play with the old grooves until 2014, at least. The level I golf I'm playing at this point in my life, I can play with the old grooves until 2024. If I get to playing a much higher level, I'll start before 2014 with getting used to new grooves. The new irons I bought this fall do conform, but I'll play with old grooves wedges for as long as I'm allowed, with a transition phase before 2024 or 2014, depending on if I get that good in the next 3 years.

I do plan to stock up on wedges and heads over the next year or so, as I expect they will get harder to find as time passes. I can still find Japanese nonconforming drivers even tho they haven't been made for a couple years, but I am stocking up on them too.

I only have one non-conforming wedge - a 52* Vokey - I could drop that in favour of a different gap wedge in a second. My older wedges (e.g. Mizuno Pro with U-grooves) are old enough to be exempt, if I interpret the rules correctly.

I'm not actually good enough to give a cr**.

Me either, but I just bought new wedges last year at this time, so I will play them until they are used up and go from there.

I don't even know if my clubs are conforming. They probably are. Is there a list of nonconforming wedges/irons somewhere.

If I remain consistent, I will lose a wedge by leaving it in the sandtrap or around the green once every 2 years. By 2016 I should have a completely new set.

i will replace my wedges when they wear out. then, i will replace them with the wedges i already have that are still brand new that i havent hit yet...conforming, conschmorming

as one can tell from my handicap, I'm really not concerned about the PGA auditing my bag, nor will my playing partners give a rip....won't affect me at all. I'll get new clubs when I need them, not when some organization (that isn't paying for any of my golf) arbitrarily want's to make things more difficult for guys who make 7-8 figures a year playing the game

i'll probably get new vokeys either at the end of 2010 or sometime in 2011. whenever mine are worn.

the new groove rule doesnt bother me. i'm open to change.

it's not that i'm close minded, i just don't see the rationale behind spending $400-$1000 getting new clubs to satisfy a rule that is irrelavant to the recreational golfer's life.
