I like discounts...

On RockBottom it's $70. Anybody hit it? Doesn't come with the tool to adjust (odd) but... I'm sure I can find one somewhere... worth a shot in the dark?

I've seen that club on several site's for a little over 100$. Have heard good things about it but haven't hit it or know anyone who has. There's one review on golf review.com and it was positive.

Playing one for about a month (9.0 degrees LH). Love it, really classic shape, solid feel; about the same distance as my old Burner, and hitting it much straighter. After buying my Evolver in a store (with wrench & one shaft) for $100, I then ordered a bunch of shafts on Ebay -- actually a package including 4 shafts, 10.5 degree RH head (i'm a lefty, so it's sitting in my basement), and wrench. Still figuring out which shaft I like best (before I probably try to resell the others), but I think it's the "stock" Proforce V2 HL actually (opposed to the Aldila shafts I sought via the Ebay purchase!). If you want to experiment with shafts especially, this is a great driver, and a great deal. I may buy another at this price just to get a 10.5 degree head so i can really swap things around based on wind conditions. Note the Rockbottom shafts probably have the standard hosel based on the photo, not the "CYG" adjustable hosel where you can then adjust face/loft/lie angle.

I play the standard 4DX, not Evolver. Same thing as far as I know, just can't easily swap out the shaft. Mine came with an Aldila shaft. I really like it, similar to the Ping G5 and G10.

I have a Tour Spec 9* and 8* 4dx... solid clubs. The interchangable shafts and adjustable hosels are dieing on the vine... I would go with a traditional type driver if I were you. They all should be comparable in price.

Depends which hosel it has in it... but I would go for something else considering nickent is out of business. Getting replacement parts or shafts will be very difficult. If I were you, i would go with the regular Nickent 4dx and switch out the shaft.

i'm an Evolver addict after switching this year. I think it's a fantastic club.

All Evolver 4DX's are "adjustable" in that the shafts can be interchanged (you need the special triangular-tipped wrench). The most common "stock" shafts are UST Proforce V2 (either reg or high-launch), which i think is a very nice shaft.

Several months before Nickent went bankrupt, they added true adjustability with a special hosel -- the "CYG" (Change Your Game). The head is the same either way, but some shafts come with the CYG hosel (it looks green and has some markings on the side so you know what angle). The hosel is slightly off-center to the shaft, so that by rotating it to different positions one can adjust clubface/lie/loft angles by up to 3*. Wrench and screw are the same in CYG and non-CYG hosels.

They originally sold some CYG hosels separately (where the company or a clubfitter could retrofit out the standard one to a CYG), but these are pretty hard to find now even on ebay. Easier to find are shafts or packages of clubheads & multiple shafts though. Note the dirt cheap prices on some websites (such as Rockbottomgolf.com) usually are for shafts with the standard hosel, and usually without including the wrench. Although i can't confirm, i'd imagine it would be pretty easy for a clubfitter to remove the CYG hosel from a shaft and put it on another if you needed (it's a standard .350 tip).

Great driver in my opinion, long yet forgiving, classic look/feel/sound, and due to the clearance pricing i've accumulated a collection of shafts. Really cool to be able to make a quick adjustment on the range and see ballflight change, and also to just change out shafts as a different brand/stiffness can make the driver feel & perform completely differently. I even picked up two clubheads with different lofts (9* and 10.5*). I feel like I have my own tour van.

Yes, they're bankrupt, so you're not going to get any warranty service. Then again, in my years of playing i've never once had to call a manufacturer for a defect, and Nickent in general made high-quality products. At the current prices, you can pick up lots of Evolver components if you wish that should last you years (until the "next great technology" comes along).

And i'm still hoping (wishfully maybe) that some other company picks up and uses the same hosel as Nickent; although i'm doubtful of that, as interchangeable shafts/hosels were supposed to be the rage when they came out, but never caught on. I think it's because they priced them at $400+, and in my opinion most people spending that much on one club will get custom fit anyway.

For some wierd reason, Golftown in Canada has stopped carrying Nickent, and none of the Pro shops here have it. I really liked some of their clubs when I hit them.

Edit: Didnt know they were out of biz.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

I'm a big Nickent 4DX Evolver fan ever since i picked on up earlier this year on a clearance whim. Since then I have been stockpiling several shafts and heads -- i feel like i have my own "tour van" in my basement so i can tweak based on conditions or my recent swing tendencies.

Anyway, i know many of the clearance deals out there (i.e. Rockbottomgolf) do NOT include the special wrench to change shafts, and the Nickent system uses a special triangular-shaped screw; that might have scared some away.

Anyway, after some experimenting, i thought it would be good to share that a 1/8" diameter Allen wrench or hex-bit fits PERFECTLY into the triangular screw. (I guess that makes some sense since the Allen has 6 sides). And the screw itself is a typical machine socket screw, so even though the original Nickent wrench "clicks" to prevent too much torque, i've found it impossible to overtighten using the Allen wrench (without hurting my fingers anyway) -- i.e. i wouldn't worry about stripping the threads (as opposed to using a Torx tip on Taylormade adjustable weights).

So try this driver if you're in the market!

I absolutely love mine. I haven't experimented yet with the CYG hosel or any other shafts yet. I bought mine for $57 at Rockbottom with a stiff UST V2 shaft.

I've got the Evolver in 9* and 10.5*, with three regular hosels and 3 CYG hosels. I play the CYG's at 2* open. It's a great tool to play with different shafts, and especially face angle alignments. Nice classic shape, long as anything else I've hit and forgiving.

Just picked up the 4dx Evolver on RBG.

12.5 with UST V2 High loft Senior flex shaft

Can't wait for it to come in.

I bought an r9 460 10.5 regular flex this season and just have had no luck with it.  All line drives and no distance at all.  My swing tempo is slower and averages about 81-82mph and I just don't believe I was getting anything out of the shaft.  Even though the salesman at Golf Galaxy said it would work for my swing speed, after further researching on Aldila's site, they recommend speeds over 90mph as regular and anything less a Senior or "A" flex shaft.

I figure for the price of a shaft I could get the entire Evolver club in a higher loft which I think will help me out.

We'll see later this week.

I recently got this club while it is not some fancy pants design or anything it is a really well built well thought out driver. Its a very classic design but taken to an extreme in terms of weighting. One thing I will say is that because such a huge portion of the head's weight is in the lower back portion of the club if you hit the ball on the upswing too much it has a real tendency to sky the ball.

Also Evolver shafts in all shapes and flexes are very cheap on Ebay.

My new Evolver just came in today.

First impressions:

Very nice looking club.  I think it actually looks better than my r9 460.

Also I like that the head is slightly smaller than 460cc.  More appealing to my eye.

At the range, when I caught it good, I had a nice baby draw.  Need to work on my driver swing though.

One question, the club came with the wrench for shaft removal.  Does anybody know if this is an impact wrench (ie. will it click when the bolt is tight enough?).

The r9 adjustment wrench is like that and it's a nice safety feature so that you dont overtighten or break anything.

Looking forward to tomorrow's range session.

My only gripe is that the UST proforce V2 HL shaft was a 54 gram which is pretty light.  I was hoping it was the 65 gram version.  I am still within the swing range as suggested by UST but just barely.  So I need to remember to keep my tempo slower with it.  By the way I bought the Senior flex "A" 12.5 deg from RockBottomGolf.  RBG did include the headcover and wrench, however the hossel is not adjustable.  If I want that I have to buy it from ebay for $25.  Since I am not slicing though I doubt I will buy it just yet.

The wrench should click when tight enough if it is the stock issue wrench from Nickent.

As for the adjustableness of the club. There are 3 versions of this clubs, one is regular old driver no switching or adjusting. Second is the one you and I have where the shafts can be swapped easily and the third is swappabble and adjustable. The third incarnation was not out for very long before the economy collapsed and along with it Nickent, so they are not so easy to find. Ebay is the only source I've found so far.

How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.
