So I have been gaming my ProV1x's for about two years now, but I have been wondering which one is actually better for me? I have a high"er" swing speed with my driver, but a smoother swing speed with my irons. Just curious......

This isn't meant in a smart ass way, but why not go buy a three pack of both, hit both and see what one works best for you? Anything else is just an opinion from someone who has no idea what you swing looks like or what kind of feel you like, etc.

Personally, I like both, but play the ProV1x because I like the harder feel when putting. I don't really notice any difference on full shots. I also like that it's a little lower spinning ball as I tend to spin my wedges too much.

I am partial to the Pro V1....I have a high swingspeed but I like the softer feel.

I am sort of in the same boat. My new wedges spin like crazy, and I game a Scotty Circa 62....its carbon, not stainless steel so it has a much softer feel. In that case, you just answered my question for me. Thanks

Well.....even though the others that responded have half the handicap I do.....I'll still chime in. I prefer the V1x for the same reason as mentioned....better feel with the putter. Really though....try both and see what fits your game. I feel more confident with the X because I like 'crispness' of it. Reminds me of a 'cheaper ball' but plays a BILLION times better if that makes sense.... (cheaper balls tend to play very hot for me...whch the X does, but the results and flight are what I expect from a quality ball).

Ditto on that. I think it all comes down to personal preference. There are guys on tour playing proV1, and proV1x, with all styles of swing and swing speed, but in the end it comes down to preference. I like the feel of the V1x off the putter, and prefer a softer feel... um... in my balls.

I have a slower swing speed and have been gaming the ProV1.

I haven't fairly tested the "X", though.

I have just started trying out the Pro V 1 X and I like them. I was finding on my approach shots that the Pro V 1 was spinning too much for me, and not so much with the Pro V 1X.

I play both the prov1 and the prov1x.If its breezy out and i am hitting into a head wind i prefer playing the prov1x and down breeze i play the prov1.I find the prov1 I can generate a little too much spin sometimes on wedge shots, but its good for firm greens. If the greens are soft i will play the prov1x.

im not fussed which i can't tell the difference much. I dont like soft Top Flites they act like the green is as slippery as a rock because even if I hit a nice iron shot in with a steep angle of descent it will roll right of the back

No, stainless steel is nearly always harder. It depends on the specific kind. The carbon steel used in golf clubs (1020, 1025, 8620) is significantly softer than the stainless steel alloys used in golf clubs (431, 303 and 304, and 17-4).

As to the hardness in comparison with each other, 1020 is the softest steel. 1020 is 0.20% carbon, 1025 is 0.25% carbon. 8620 steel is about 0.22% carbon, but is an alloy with manganese, not a pure carbon steel. 8620 is harder than 1020 and 1025 steel. 8620 is the steel used in Vokeys. Nike uses 1025 steel in its pro irons. As for the stainless, 303 is the softest, but 304 is a bit more resistant to corrosion. 431 is pretty much the standard steel used in game improvement clubs, and is quite a bit harder. Even harder still, is 17-4 stainless steel, which was mostly abandoned in irons due to its incredibly hard feel. The only company that still uses 17-4 steel for all of its irons is Ping.

Wow...thanks Mr. Wizard on the education! hehehe. But, the Circa 62 is much softer than per sey the Studio Select.

i like the pro v1x better because it launches a tad higher and it's still easy to spin around the greens. the pro v1 spins way too much with wedges and i have a tighter shot dispersion with the pro v1x (i guess its due to the lower spin). both are really good balls but i sometimes use the pro v1 if the greens are really hard

That is exactly what i needed. Thanks

I play the Bridgestone j33 CB. I hear people say clubs wea out. ince the J33's are made of 1020 carbon steel (soft), do I really need to worry about them wearing out? Or just be careful of the bag chatter?
