With the Tour Talk forum flooded with Tiger topics (and rightfully so I suppose), I figured I would try to breathe some fresh air into this place. Then again, this topic will probably be on the second page in no time.

Is anyone watching the U.S. Amateur this week? It actually starts today with stroke play. The match play begins on Wednesday I believe. Anyway, I put together a Thrash Talk this weekend dealing with the Amateur Championship, but it won't be published until tomorrow of course. I'll just leave a few questions in here to get everyone going hopefully.

1. How much of the U.S. Amateur do you watch each year?

2. Do you have any favorites for this year's championship?

I will likely watch the finals, I don't follow too much early round US Am coverage, maybe read the stories to learn a bit about the players in the finals but that's about it.

I like watching the US Am, like Ricky Barnes, Ryan Moore and of course Tiger's US Am wins were exciting to watch. It always makes for great drama, these guys get paid zero dollars, it's just different than the regular tour events, even the WGC Matchplay event is not close to the US Amateur match play.

I'll be watching everyday its on (and probably go watch it live at least one day since its the only way I'll ever get on at Hazeltine ). Monday and Tuesday stroke play are held at both Hazeltine and Chaska Town Course (which is a public course w/rates from $38-$56).

Looking forward to the article, Cody!

I always try to watch some of it because the venues these kids get to play are unbelievable... Merion last year, Oakland Hills a few years ago, Oakmont... having seen Hazeltine on tv before, I may not watch as much this year as in years past, but I'm sure I'll tune in for a little bit anyway.

I'll probably root for Trip Keuhne (works for my company) and Brian Harman (always enjoyed watching him for some reason).

I actually live where the U.S. Senior Amateur is being held (newburgh indiana) and plan on going and watching quite a bit seeing as how the admission is free. I'm not sure when it starts but I will take some pictures, the course they're playing is amazing, I have played it 2 times and it is EXTREMELY hard so i'll get some pictures for everyone to see when it comes to town.

After the first day of stroke play, Florida's Billy Horschel is in the lead after shooting a USGA record-low 60 on the Chaska Town Course. Needless to say, Horschel leads by several going into today. No matter what course these guys play, a 60 is phenomenal, especially with the pressure of the U.S. Amateur.

My pick, Pablo Martin, is currently at even par after day one and in the top 20.

The Pacific Northwest Golf Assn. junior championship is being played at my home course this week. I've been following some of the groups as I avoid yardwork - THESE KIDS GOT GAME!

I am fascinated at how well the young guys strike the ball, even the 12-14 year olds. It makes you appreciate the line between good ...really good and GREAT.

Bury me with a golf glove in my pocket - just in case!

I'd love to see Trip Keuhne win it. He could have gone pro a while ago but has kept his amater status. I'll be watching it this weekend...I ususally watch the finals and some of the semi's if I get a chance.

Fairways and Greens.

I would like to see Trip Keuhne win it also, it's great to see really good players keep their amateur status instead of trying to go for the pot of gold (although you can't blame them)

Billy Horschel follows up his 60 in round 1 with a 78 in round 2!?!? AND STILL WINS! Crazy stuff.

Pablo Martin is hanging in there nicely after rounds of 72 and 70. He is -1 going into the match play portion.

I believe two of my other Okie St. guys made it to match play, Jonathan Moore and Ryan Posey. Yeah, they will be tough to beat again next season.

Billy Horschel got a little taste of Hazeltine after dominating the Chaska Town Course on Monday. Hazeltine is a tough one for sure.

I have the TiVo set for 3pm today, and I'll be ready to watch a couple hours tonight when I get off work.

Well, my pick just got beat in the round of 16 this morning, but the kid that beat him has already committed to play at Oklahoma State after high school. I guess I'll cheer for him now.

It's nice to see Trip Kuehne in the round of eight as well. Hopefully he can keep it going.

My prediction:

The match is halved going into the 36th hole and Ramsay's caddy lines up behind him on the 18th hole during his putt...automatic loss of hole.

He won't be able to overcome his 3rd penalty in 3 rounds...

Fairways and Greens.

    • Phillyk is very close by. Ok, I understand how the watch and tags are meant to be used, but I was just curious how it actually works. I can't really think of any other way than what I mentioned above. No worries. If it works it works. I'll probably pick one up. My co-worker mentioned a free app called 18 Birdies which offers similar services. However I personally do not like keeping my phone in my pocket while golfing, nor do I want to be clicking around on the phone while out on the course. I toss my phone in my bag and leave it there until I am done golfing. Tapping a club head to a watch seems wat more convenient.
    • Yes, but not always the case. IMHO, green speeds are a huge variable and can effect score variation from week to week or month to month significantly. Our own course that is running at about 8-9 depending on the week/day, can run up to 12 (no kidding) in peak months around certain event, and most like me score 3-4 shots higher on an average, missing a lot of 3-4 footers. There are any PCC adjustments that I am aware of. Have you every played their course? I am betting $20 you will find some answers if you haven't already.

    • I would recommend spending some time at the range and film your swing. You can post it in the Member Swings thread. At the range, you can figure out how to control the driver a bit more. We can offer some pointers once you post in the Member Swings section.
    • With the H4 or the watch, you tag the club before hitting by putting the tag next to the device. The tag is on the club butt end. After a round, you don’t really think about it too much. You just do it. I don’t know how far you are from @phillyk, but he may know an instructor in your area.
