Well I'm finally stepping up to the smart phone world Monday. Don't need one, but I want to get the Golf Logic app so a Droid it will be. I'm not much of a tech guy, but I'm really looking forward to getting this. What do you guys think of your golf apps?

I use the Golf Logix app with my Blackberry and I love it. Very easy to set up and use. Easily tracks a few basic stats during the round. Haven't found a course that wasn't available yet. Mine takes a pretty decent hit to my battery after using it for a round so make sure you have a car charger for the ride home.

Car charger is a must. I checked the courses they have for my area and didn't find any that they didn't have. Even a couple goat track courses I didn't think they'd have were avalible. Think I'll enjoy having it.

My Droid is actually coming in the mail today so excited. I was gonna buy the UPro but I was up for a new phone so bought one that had Golf Logix. My buddy has it on his Iphone and we love it so i decieded to get a phone that had it and who wouldnt like a droid. Ill let ya know how it goes.

I have no complaints about Golf Logix on my iPhone. The satelliete usage kills my battery... but I 'sleep' my phone once I get my yardage, so... typically a little more than half my battery is used during an average (4.5 hour) round. I love having the yardages to carry certain obstacles... and having the front - middle - back yardages helps significantly when the pin is up or back. I ALWAYS used to play to the number from the sprinkler heads because I wasn't able to figure out how deep a green was unless it was on the scorecard (which most of the tracks I played last season didn't have).

Being able to know it's 155 to the middle, but the pin is up and it's only 137 to the front helped to lower my putts per round because I wouldn't be putting from 60+ feet away.

Enjoy the Droid. I hear good things.

Can you get yardages for your drive distance irons, etc. Thats one thing I'm not sure on. I'm thinking you can.

I've tried a couple different golf GPS apps on my droid and they seem pretty accurate when compared with my iGolf Neo. Haven't given the Golf Logix app yet but may check it out next time I play. It looks like there is a free 24 hour trial.

As far as the battery life is concerned, I almost made it through a full round with the GPS running, Slacker Radio (at the lowest volume just to push the envelope with battery usage) and the screen brightness on max (which I don't think you'll be able to see the the screen very well on a sunny day otherwise). The battery was at about 90% at the first tee.
Is there just the one-time fee, or is a package required? I'm upgrading phones next week and will definately be going with an i-phone this time.

Annual membership on the droid is $39.99 per year. Probably the same on the iPhone.

Verizon smartphone data pack is an extra 29.99 a month. Golf logic is 39.95 a year. My wife is already paying for the the data package so I'm good to go.

Stay away from car charger!!! It reduces your battery life SIGNIFICANTLY. Buy an extra battery instead.

I've always heard that, but have never had a problem with car chargers. I use one on my current phone all the time. 2+ year old phone with the origanal battery that still holds a good charge.

I can leave my iPhone "on" and the golflogix app active and it will make it through an entire round.

I'll use the car charger to get it topped off on the way to the course.

Last round I experimented and pressed the lock button in between shots. This conserved the battery considerably.

Monoprice.com has some small and very affordable battery boosters for the iPhone...and may have the same for the Droid.

I need to get a more golf friendly phone case...like an Otterbox. My leather slimcase is a pain as it doesn't fit in belt holsters.

I have been using NRange on my Blackberry. It doesn't drain my battery and I can play 18 holes no sweat. I tried Golf Logix, but the trial was only for 1 week. NRange is 30 days. NRange is also $29 or $39 a year or $85 for lifetime membership. I Still haven't decided which one I like more.

Used Golf Logix on my new droid(got friday night) yesterday and it only went thru 50% of the battery. Not to bad in my opion. hit some of the closest approach shots i ever have since i knew distances a little better. the course i normally play doesnt have markers except for the sprikler heads but they arent always easy to find.

Based on the subscriptions prices and not wanting to eat up my entire phone battery for a round, I went with the uPro Go for $212 off ebay (I paid the extra $50 for the advanced green view as well) and couldn't be happier). I was shocked at how compact and light it is. I pretty much never carry anything in my pockets during a round, but this I could throw in there if I wasn't riding a cart (I usually just put it in the cup holder).

Picked up my HTC Eris droid yesterday. After doing some more research I went with the Freecaddie app. I was surprised that it had all the main courses that I play. Haven't got to use it yet, but think it will work just fine. Not as hard on the battery life from what I've read. I also added the Shotracker app to my phone. It's a simple app that checks and logs the yardages for your clubs. Some of you may want to check that app out. Thanks for the info guys!

P.S. I'm not a tech guy by any stretch, but love this phone. Very easy to use an handy as hell!
