I'm looking to get a practice mat and net set up in the back yard. The 3 that seem to have the best reviews on the web are "The GolfMat by Vijay Singh", the real feel golf mat, and True Strike golf mat. Any one every use any of these? I tend to think if Vijay Singh, the practice nut, endorses a mat then it has to be pretty good.

Still debating a bit but I think I will buy a mat. I think I really need to practice my swing and the range is turning out to be really really pricey. Mats are pricey too but I figure I would spend buying one what I would spend in about 4-6 weeks going to the range (even though it's grass but with horrible balls).
Been looking at the TruStrike and the Vijay Singh Golf Mat, just saw an ad for another one called the Fairway Pro. So many mats out there it's getting to be a tough decision, plus I'd like to get one that won't hurt my elbows or wrists so I discarded any of the mats that are basically just a carpet. Dis a search on the forum and it seems that the Vijay Singh Golf Mat is the better recommended one though the posts where from a while back.
Any mats I should consider before pulling the trigger?

I bought a cheapy from S/A and it seems to help alot. I cut out a piece of my lawn to fit it in level with the ground height because it isnt big enough to stand on also. I practiced with it to much and got used to hitting balls about 3/4 inch higher than my feet and it really messed me up. I was topping balls like crazy with my irons.

Hadn't thought about that. I was thinking about just buying the mat and not the side mat where you can stand on. Thanks for the heads up.

Ask your range to sell you an old one. I've seen 2 ranges near me selling the older matts. Nothing really wrong with them as far as I could tell either.

I researched the topic for some time and concluded that The Golf Mat was the best option.

I bought it and never recieved it. Money gone and I haven't heard a word from the seller. I believe it is a good mat, but they swindled me. The Golf Warehouse sell them for $200 now.

I hate mats with a passion, but every single range here got mats. Some courses even got mats on the tees.

I'd go with the real feel, I've got one and it's been worth every penny. I used it all last winter for practice. It's the only mat I've used that feels close to the real thing. Also you can tee the ball anywhere and hit down and through without tearing the mat up. They are pricey but you get what you pay for. Also I'm a big fan of products that don't need a big name behind them to sell.

I've used a good thumb rule for purchasing golf equipment (specifically training aids) that my instructor let me in on. He said and I quote "Most items that have a big name behind them, like HH, VJS, BH, etc.... end up just being crap. The pro instructors / players get kick backs for the endorsement because the prodcut wouldn't sell without it." He went on to say and I'll paraphrase.... look for equipment that has stood the test of time and produces results good enough that it wouldn't need an endorsment (meaning that there are some good ones out there that are endorsed) to sell. Hope that helps.

My local Golfsmith uses the True Strike mats in their hitting area and I really like 'em. You can really hit down on the ball and not worry about it as is the case on some mats. Not sure how expensive they are or how well they hold up though.

Did you buy it online? I was browsing their website and didn't get a lot of confidence to buy there. Shame it isn't available at amazon.

I second the real feel mats. I bought one of their more expensive larger ones and you can tee up balls using real tees if you want and as mentioned can hit off the deck and really hit down on them. I live in an apt, so i basically keep it in my living room and practice chipping (flying wedge drills) primarily because I can't really take full swings indoors. But this has helped me tremendously. One day, with my own place, i hope to setup my own hitting bay and of course this will be the mat of my choice.

Yea, I forked out some big money:

New Deluxe Combo System – 4′ x 4′ Stance Mat & Rubber Tray – 20″ x 36″ Country Club Elite Strike Mat & Rubber Tray with attached Ball $699.00 + $100.00 Shipping Via UPS* I'd give them a call instead of ordering online, I got them to throw in the shipping charges for free in GA, just work them over and tell them you're very interested but the price is to high from others you've looked at: Inquiries Email – info@realfeelgolfmats.com Phone – 800.344.2115 Fax – 610.918.9338 Also, my mat shows ZERO signs of wear and I've used it for about 1 - 2 hours on 40 - 50 different occasions since I purchased it.

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club? • Interesting that Scottie is #10 on the all time money list and he's been on the PGAT for 4 years. Of course, purses are bigger now, but  neat to look at non-the-less.  The list of top 18 money winners in PGA Tour history has plenty of surprises This list is updated through the 2024 RBC Heritage. To add, Scottie won 4.5 million at the Players, Jack played 44 seasons and won a little of 5 million on course.
