I have played many courses in Michigan but not as many as probably many of you. Just wondering what were the favorites of some who have played in Michigan. Thanks.

My wife is from Michigan, so I've played there several times.
Shepherd's Hollow and Wolverine-Grand Traverse are two of my favorites.

I moved to Michigan after Highschool and played a few places I liked there a lot. You can't go wrong with the course's around Gull Lake near Kzoo. If you head south from there, and go to Centerville, Mi. there is Island Hill Golf Course. This is a great course, even though they changed 16, 17, and 18 to accommodate new houses. Not far from there on the border in In, South Bend is close by. Blackthorn, Warren Golf Course (Notre Dame's), and Juday Creek are all great places to play.

There's a Jack Nicklaus course at the Grand Travers Resort in Traverse City. There's a course near Boyne Mountain that's great. Don't remember the name but I loved the course. I think the Shanty Creek Resort has a nice course as well. Seems like most of the golf courses in Northern Michigan are really nice. I love that area.

what would your dream course look like ? I played Lion Oaks today by Milford and have never before seen starters and course managers/rangers so on the ball . they were excelent there today . as far as shepherds hollow ... I played there 4 weeks ago . it was a 6 1/2 hr round . it would have been longer but two groups walked off the course in front of us . the reason was a seven some . the rangers said as well as the desk people if you dont like it leave / dont come back . I wont be back any time soon lol . there are plenty of great courses . it just depends on what makes a course great in your mind . Mark

As an all in experience I don't know how you can beat Arcadia Bluffs, one of the most beautiful places in Michigan. Some of my favorites Up North would have to be Hidden River, The Bear at GTR, the Boyne courses, and to go out with buddys for a good time on an OK course Little Traverse Bay.

In Metro Detroit/ East Lansing Area: Sheppard's Hollow is great and contrary to a previous post Ive never had any problems there (except for lost balls and scores), Field Stone in Auburn Hills is decent, if you can get on at the DGC or OHCC dont pass, Eagle Eye and Forest Akers West are great courses, best value courses Rackhem (Hackem) is a Donald Ross munni course by the Detroit Zoo and up in EL College Fields is a poorly timed housing development course that is really cheap semi decent course...

but yeah i love golf and saving money so ill pretty much go anywhere with a good twilight rate.

I am from the metro Detroit area, and one of my favorite courses is Lakes of Taylor, and Taylor Meadows. I haven't been to a few that are on my list to be played this summer, but I have heard great things about them. They are Northville Hills is one of them, and a couple more that for the love of my can't remember...

Tons of good courses with reasonable fees. My favorites are the Jackal, Moose Ridge, Pierce Lake, Mystic Creek, Northville Hills, etc. I live/play mostly downriver on the flatter courses; Raisin River, Willow Metropark, Lilac, Links of Lake Erie, Lake Forest, Carrington, Legacy, etc.

Not sure where your located but I've played a few around St. Joe and they're all very good and a great value.

Hawkshead Links - excellent course with a links feel.
The Ravines (Arnie design) - beautiful course.
Blackthorne - in South Bend, IN technically but close enough. They have a warm up hole which is kinda fun.

Also, a classic local type course is Lake Michigan Hills. Very tight with tree lined fairways (and I mean huge trees. That part of MI is the fruit best so it's thick). Fun course. In fact, my avatar is #1 at LMH.

I'd like check out some other areas of MI but some other time.....

The best courses I ever played were Forest Dunes, Roscommon - Black Lake, Onaway and Bay Harbor @ Boyne Resort. We have a family cabin in Indian River which is in the heart of the northern golf courses; you can’t believe how many are within 1 hour drive from there. I sure wish it was like that here in Tennessee, they definitely aren’t the same as back home but you get more playing time here with the better weather.

I am playing one of the Gull Lake courses in a couple of weeks. Anyone have any opinions about these golf courses?

Haven't played it/them but have heard good things about it. Popular for weekend outings.

Arcadia Bluff and The Bear are two of my favorites. But by far my favorite was Crystal Downs. It is ultra private and is in Frankfort right on the shores of Lake Michigan. I had a chance to play it when I was 15. I did not appreciate it then, and I am sure will never have another shot at playing it again

I played Leslie Park today, a muni in Ann Arbor that has been voted very high by Golf Digest. Very nice and we finished in 4 hours with a full course. Recommended.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
