Is there anyone else out there that doesnt like adjustable drivers? I don't like the idea of covering your swing flaw with an adjustment on the driver head. Why not adjust your swing instead of the making the driver less square to make you feel like you are hitting it right.

I like them. Most off the rack drivers are square or closed. With the adjustment, you can open the face up. Also, I am fairly upright, and some of them let you adjust upright or flat to fit your swing plane. Until companies start to sell woods with differing lie angles, I vote for adjustability. And if some slicer wants to close his face, who cares?

I like them too. This means I can go to a store, be fitted for a shaft, and if i want to adjust the lie angle a few degrees upright, i can immediately do it and play, no need to do a special order and pay top dollars in the process.

However, a majority of people here prefer a complete fit, i.e. you get/order exactly what the fitter recommends and finito.

I'm certainly not as good as the guys who prefer that, so I won't comment further because I didn't enjoy the beating last time this subject came up

You are not alone my friend. I think it just hype and yet another marketing ploy.

I mean really. Whats the point... are you going to have a different swing every time you play? All these things do is confuse the average golfer more.

I like them also, some provide a greater adjustment than others. My ZL driver only has 3 adjustments, I tried all 3 of them and settled on the open setting, doubtful I will change that. I have used others over the past few years ( ), again I liked to ability to change the weights around to arrive at a set up which worked for me.

Even though my R9 is adjustable, I keep it at neutral and have never changed it. I may one day just to see how different it is, but right now my focus is on my swing and tempo.

Because I don't like to practice. I would rather play. That is what the majority of golfers do. Most don't practice. It is easier to use a tool to help you out. I love my adjustable driver. I crank it 2* open most of the time. My swing has been a little off lately so I closed it 1* and started finding the fairway again.

but if you have to adjust your driver to hit it straight then your irons wont be straight either unless they are adjustable, The driver just has a bandaid so to speak on it. I understand the lie angle part, nothing wrong with that, I didnt even know they had adjustable lie angles like 2 degrees upright on drivers.

I have a Nike Dymo adjustable and by no means do I use it to "cover up" a swing flaw….even if I did why would you care? I tinker with it all the time and often adjust the face +/- 1* depending on the majority of the shots I need to play at a particular course. They are so simple to figure out even a caveman can do it.

My advice, embrace technology and don't worry what others use….especially if it helps them enjoy the game more.

I think you are wrong here...Pros have someone that adjust their clubs to meet thier exact needs...I think this is where we mortals can have some of that benefit without the high price of getting a club "adjusted".

With that said, I am of the opinion that you should "set it and forget it" (sorry for infomercial plug) .... I don't think one should be tinkering with the adjustments frequenly, and much less while in play.
Even though my R9 is adjustable, I keep it at neutral and have never changed it. I may one day just to see how different it is, but right now my focus is on my swing and tempo.

Same here....I have a r7 Limited, which at first I thought about adjusting it to Draw, but found that in neutral I have far more options and realtively straight drives...with a few slices here and there, but I can live with that.

Every club has it's own pecularities, and an adjustment to the driver should not necesarily be the same with say an 7i...you have different swing paths, swing speeds, weights...many different factors so I don't think that adjustments to the driver setup affect you iron play.

I guess if I were trying to adjust after every tee shot on the course, then I would be fooling myself, but I don't think that there is anything wrong in having a club that you can adjust while palying a " for fun" round....as long as you return to natural settings and keep practicing ...

Has anyone noticed that they usually have a different feel compared to their non-adjustable counterparts? The adjustable ones I've tried never feel as smooth as a traditional glued stick.

I can't tell any differences....granted mine has adjustable weights on the bottom so I really can't see it while playing...so not issues at address

I've never used one, but if people like them, I say go for it. For people who don't like them, don't buy one.

Not at all, I hit my Irons with a slight fade and this used to result in a slice with my driver, so while I was working on fixing that driver slice I set the Str8-fit to 2Deg closed and hit it straight without a change in swing or any resulting change to my Iron shot shape. Now I have worked on correcting my takeaway with the driver I have put it back to Neutral setting and I am hitting the driver with a fade as I do with my irons/3 wood and hybrid. So for me the ability to adjust my driver is great.

They seem more beneficial for players who are already quite consistent, and just need a little more precision. From my own point of view, with a default shot that curves from straight-to-right (occasionally starts left), I fail to see how an adjustable face is going to help. I like the idea of flexible customisation after the purchase... I just object to equipment being marketed as slice / hook cures, when in reality sorting out one's swing path is more beneficial.

Nobody seems to blink when a guy shows up with lead tape on his driver, this is the exact same thing only "fancied up" a bit...no idea why the perceived difference. Also, I find it funny that "Tour" drivers are usually tweaked a few degrees open to keep guys from hooking the ball, but this isn't seen as a crutch the way an offset or draw biased driver may be. I fully understand that a majority of better players hit a draw as opposed to a fade (no, I don't have statistics but every <10hcp I've played with hit a draw), but just the same, an open face is the same "crutch" as a closed face.

    • I was recently told that Turning Dtone in New York is a nice overall resort and they’ve they have 3 courses as well as many other amenities. A quick TST search turned up older threads with a lot of comments on how difficult the courses are. Does anybody know if they have “relaxed” the courses over the years or are they still hard as far as resort courses go? I do not mind a hard course but my wife can get frustrated but if good scenery and good course conditions she may still enjoy a hard course. What are your thoughts on their courses and the resort in general? Edited for typos
    • Day 615 - 2026-06-09 Officiated in the morning and then did some Skillest lessons before getting some work in during a really long seventh inning (I think).
    • Day 280 6-9 low point control, practice missing towel. No ball, started to get the hang of hitting way in front of towel. Going to keep at it.
    • Day 9 - (9 Jun 26) - Weekly nine hole session with my good friend, I played again from one set of tees up from my usual (set up the bag 4h, 6i-Pw, Gw, Lw) to focus more on iron play in the approaches (esp longer ones on the 4's and 5's).  Used the hybrid for tee shots only, had to play irons in from there on....made for a great work on course management and dealing with iron shots I normally don't see.  Key focus was on keeping ball in play, playing to distances that set up for either GiR or nGiR's.  Played a split nine (5 on the front, 4 on the back - the turn works nicely as both nines turn and run parallel coming in - easy to jump from 5 to 15 (especially when the course is not busy)).  Worked with my friend on his course management skills - offering thoughts as a "caddie" might and helping him to confidently choose and execute the shot he was seeing.
    • Interesting that you post this - was playing today with my good friend in our typical weekly nine-hole round.  He has a lot of chatter in his mind, most of the time, yet today was much improved.  Yes, he went through a number of swing thoughts (like the ones highlighted), but then you could almost hear the switch click off - it was like when I shot the distance, and said its "X yards", he confidently said "this club should cover that..." and made his shot most of which were nicely rewarded.   Came away shooting one of his best nine-hole rounds ever.  For me, I do have thoughts  - not in terms of negotion but rather evaluation.  What is the wind doing?  Is there trouble - left, right, middle - not that I am a great fader or drawer of the ball?  Where is the better landing spot/zone?  What is my target window and what in the distance helps me see it?  I wonder if the "negotiation" is more about not understanding "typical distance for a given club (carry and roll)" and more about remembering how that flushed 5i that went and went or how the 4i that can get there with but not reliably or accurately.
