Monday I was at adare manor and had the pleasure of watching the pros up close for the first time, now Im not a bad ballstriker and play with plus handicappers often but when I seen mcilroy hit a driver up close I was stunned! Ive never seen such a flight in my life! Hes only 5 7", how in gods name does he do it! They must be something I mean he doesnt look like he goes after it either, Ive seen many people swing alot harder and come nowhere near what I seen today. Hahaha I just cant get over it, what could it be, flawless mechicanics?

I've seen him in real life this year at the memorial. He just has the prettiest swing. He was hitting his 3 wood where others were hitting there driver in his group. How does he do it? I really have no idea. Perfect sequence of events, the right things moving at the right time, not sure what else. It is impressive to watch the guys for sure. They can play.

If you can, join the crowd at a Champions Tour event sometime. You'll see a much wider variety of swings, and the guys aren't quite as uptight as mainline PGA players.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Was at Adare too.Was there at 8am for Rory's teetime on the Monday and some little guy walked by signing autographs and I was wondering who it could when I noticed the hair.I knew he was small, but I was surprised all the same. Then he tees it up and absolutely murders a ball right into the middle of the fairway. It was stunning.I've never seen such a high, long ballflight with the Driver. His iron shots are just sweet, tempo is perfect, same every time, machine like.Later in the round he went for a par 5 in 2 and came up just short and left.. directly behind a tree.I was thinking he'd just chip out sideways of course but he somehow managed a little pokey, punchy pitch that drew slightly around the tree and stopped dead 8 feet from the hole.Said to the g/f, 'That's the difference between a pro and a hacker'.

As for where he gets his power.. massive shoulder turn, with his hips resisting, strong leg action and he's obviously just a naturally strong fella to boot.

Watching Alvaro Quiros driving was also an eye opening experience.

He is only 5'7"?? I watched him at the St.Jude and I was standing right beside him while he waited to tee off. He was taller than me and I am 5'8". I agree though.

I watched Zach Johnson tee of and we all know how short (length wise) he is. He SMOKED his driver compared to what I am used to seeing!! Out of all of the pros I saw tee off, the ball flight that impressed me the most (by far) was Villegas. Everyone else's tee shots ballooned up from the start. Villegas' tee shot took off really low and then after it got out, it started to rise like an airplane. That is the flight I like.

Haha I was on the 1st too, I might have seen you lol, he doesnt look muscular at all, the sound is absolutely incredible too, never heard anything like it, alvaro is just a monster plain and simple, his sideburns are the lenght of my arms! Mcilroy is listed at 5 8" but he looks smaller, I taught he was abit chubby on tv but he isnt in real life.

After seeing tiger so much on tv, he almost looks surreal when I saw him lol

Pretty amazing, isn't it? It's eye opening to see someone blast one out there 280+; you really get an idea of just how far that is.

I was lucky enough to see the Honda Classic this year. It was amazing how they all hit it so pure. Definitely a different sound through the whole bag than most of us are used to. What I would give for a dime of their talent.

I had the pleasure of playing with Rory McIlroy last year in the pro-am for the Shell Houston Open. Everything that's been said about his swing is true; in person it just seems so fluid and controlled yet extremely powerfu. It completely defies what you'd expect him to be able to dol. The only thing I kinda disagree with is his height; I'd put him more at 5'9", maybe 5'10" on a good day. Here are a few pictures. The first if of me (middle) next to him; I'm 6'2". The second is a picture next to my wife (she's 5'7"):

I thought he was taller. I seemed a good 2" taller than me when I stood beside him on the tee box and it wasn't the ground that was different. Now Villegas was smaller than I thought.

There's another topic on here that I made right after I played with him. I was on 4/1/09 if you want to search for it (I remember it being on April Fool's Day because no one believed me and thought it all was a joke).

This pro-am was nothing like the big deal ones you see on TV (AT&T;/"Clam Bake" or the Bob Hope). It's just an 18 hole best ball round played the Wednesday of tournament week. You just kinda sign up, pay your money and you're in. My dad has played in the pro-am every year since before I was born. Whenever I was old enough and still living back at home, I would caddie for him. For whatever reason, two years ago he decided he wanted me to play in his spot and he'd caddie for me. I played in '08 with Charley Hoffman, and last year I played with Rory McIlroy. I've moved out of state now so I'm not back to play in it anymore so I didn't get to go this year. As for choosing your pro, they have a "Pairings Party" the Monday night before where each foursome gets together and is given a number. The numbers are then chosen at random, and when your number is called you get to choose your pro. Out of the 50 or so groups there, we were chosen sixth or seventh if I remember correctly. The other guys in my group wanted to play with Boo Weekely of Bubba Watson, but I was dead set on Rory. The lady put the microphone in front of my mouth, and I blurted out Rory's name before my teammates could really do anything. Seeing as they didn't even know who he was I understood them not quite getting it, but I'm hoping nowadays they are thanking me.
