Starting to plan a week long golf vacation in January in FLorida. In your opinion, where's the best place to base with the best assortment of good quality, golf courses. I'm not talking Bay Hill quality courses or accomodations, more middle of the road prices. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Tampa Bay?
Ft. Lauderdale?

For January, I try to go as far south as possible to get warmer weather.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Nothing is cheap or even relatively cheap in January... Green fees from summer to winter will increase $50 - $75 for most places. But... for the most courses and decent lodging... I would look into Doral.

There are so many courses around that you can play that are close to most areas. Check out Orlando, Tampa, Naples etc and try to get a package. Take a look at Golfnow and you can see the hot areas. One thing is that January is season so expect to pay premium rates.

try Amelia Island Plantation outside of Jax. I live in Tpa and go there every year for a few days to play with the old college buddies. Great deals, all inclusive golf stuff, great courses on the ocean. Very reasonably priced compared to Doral (nice course, hole of a city).

In Tampa, you have several top quality courses to choose from:

World Woods , just north in Brooksville...2 courses and one of the largets practice areas in FL
Lake Jovita, Tom lehman's home, 2 great courses with rolling hills
Inverness....3 courses...home to Transitions PGA tourney
TPC Tampa Bay....home to the Outback ProAm(champions Tour)
Saddlebrook Resort....2 courses

as well as a plethora of public courses with better than reasonable rates

I believe you mean Innisbrook? Thats going to cost you a very pretty penny to play there, but it is nice. Have you looked at Jacksonville? Get on Golfnow.com and plan out your week. I would only play in the cities that offer 20 or more golf courses, that way you can get a variety (Jax, Tampa, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Meyers)

The Orlando area has lots of courses in every price range. Check out golf hub, Tee Bone and some of the other tee time websites for last minute tee times. Afternoon rounds are often relatively low, even at Disney. Try Deltona, Debary, Victoria Hills and Timacuan all just north of Orlando. They are excellent courses at "middle of the road " prices. Also look into Harmony Preserve, Palisades and Royal St Cloud for courses that have good value. Don't forget to check the Disney rates after 2 pm

Orlando or Destin. Id stay away from Tampa/Sarasota; I never felt like I was getting good value on any course I played there

    • Day 85 - Played 9. Driver was solid, approach shots were pushed, chipping/pitching was better, putting was rough.
    • Day 514, March 28, 2024 Quick ten minutes while waiting for the wife to come home for our trip.
    • Day 262: did a stack session. Worked on rehearsal swings during rest breaks.
    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
