The last few weeks when I've been out playing my ball striking has not been good. Ironically enough, I have never driven the ball as accurately, consistantly and as long as I have in my entire life! Additionally, my putter has been solid.

It's everything in between the tee box and green that has been bad. Duffing shots (which I rarely ever do), slicing fairway woodds, pulling irons, pushing irons, etc. I look like a 20+ handicapper all of the sudden!

Over the last couple of months I've been trying to incorporate some subtled changes to help better my swing. I think those things have added up to poor ball striking.

Rather than continuing to reinforce what might be some bad swing tendancies, I think I'm just going to shut down my golf game for the season (live in MN) - take a few lessons and hit the indoor driving range over the winter so I can be geared up for next season!

Here's to a great 2010 and let's hope for an even better 2011!

I can't imagine having to deal with the end of a golf season. Living in SoCal it does not compute! I'm getting stoked because our team play at my club is about to start... Fall and Winter are some of the best times to golf in my opinion. Feel bad for all the golfers in cold climates right now.

Same here. Although it does get pretty chilly here in the valley during winter (50s) it is still definitely playable and the courses are wide open. I think I will use the range more this winter than playing, though.

Hey I live in MN also, and I can't wait for the snow to hit the ground so I can focus on my ball striking. Does that make me weird? Also where do you hit balls in the winter? I like the BP dome.

I think I got a few more rounds in me. The weather is getting pretty shitty up here though season might end sooner than later.

I hit balls in the off season at the Golf Zone in Chaska. Can get a little pricey (price is determined by time, not # of balls hit) but it works out really well when you and a buddy take turns and split the cost.

The weather here in MN has been simply perfect for two weeks now. Looks like it's going to be in the high 70's tomorrow with sunshine just as the leaves are peaking. I am playing 36 tomorrow with a large group out at Mississippi National out in Red Wing. That's our year end blowout. But I will get a few more rounds in here and there before the snow flies and it becomes like Minsk for the next 8 months.

I don't think that makes you weird, no.

I'm looking forward to doing the same this winter. Last winter was the first time I had the mentaility of using the winter months to work on ball striking. It worked, too. Some of my best golf this season were the first couple of months of summer. As the summer progressed, my ball striking got worse. I know that sounds backwards. I think what happened to me is that I lost sight of focusing on good ball striking because I was out playing so much (more time playing than time spent on the range), that I started to engrain some bad swing tendancies. So yeah.... I'm looking forward to focusing on my swing this winter and getting it "dialed in" for a fresh start to next season! I always hit balls at the Braemar Golf Dome in Edina. I tried Golf Zone in Chaska once last year. I think it was actually on one of the coldest days of the winter in January (single digit temp, if I recall) and the snow and sun made it so bright you really could track your ball flight.

    • Day 133 (25 Apr 24) - Worked with the Divot Board today added a piece of cardboad behind the ball to help reinforce ball first contact. Contact improved through the round.   Added grandson's football goal posts about 10yds out to add a good start line visual Good session today.
    • Day 120: 4/25/24 Full Speed Spectrum training session. Low energy today and my speed was lower than normal. Will see what I can do on Saturday.
    • Day 541, April 25, 2024 Ten minutes after lessons. Still not caught up, but should be by tomorrow evening.
    • Playing irons only may lead to some short-term gains, but you'll want to at least practice with the driver if you ultimately have some decently good goals.
    • He plays from 68.3 / 124.  A combo tee setup of normal mens and seniors.   I play from 69.7/127.   He left after taking a triple on 14 and then leaving.  Which plays to what I think his plan is,   He doesn’t stroke on 14 but would have to take bogey for non completed holes on the way in.   Maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he found a way to add 4 shots to his score over three holes so….     I looked up his last 20 rounds in GHIN and he has a lot of rounds at easier courses (rating and slope) that are higher than his normal rounds at home.   Since I mostly have his front nine score during the match (36) to go on, he has three nine hole scores at our course posted that are 41-43. I wrote the whole thing up to the head of our golf association who runs all the tournaments.  Our pro is not involved officially in the tournaments because the golf associations are separate from the club.   He’s pretty well known for this, however I was pretty shocked at how well he played carrying a 15.   I think eventually they will do something, a lot of people have complained.  The golf association threw someone out a couple of years ago and it was a three month situation where the guy retaliated.  They probably are hesitant to go thru anything like that again.  That is a rather crazy story I might post about later.
