I guess I should be more specific as well. Do you prefer to read articles that have tips, equipment reviews, course reviews, stories about the Tour, etc? If you have one that you like in particular, what makes it great for you? keeping it short? having lots of detail? Pictures? Opinions? humor?

I prefer to read stories about players and events that the normal golf fan may not necessarily know about. I think that golfers are flooded with so many articles about golf tips that it's borderline ridiculous. I find stories telling what the players are really like more interesting that how to hit my irons 10 yards further.

It's all in the eye of the beholder - what some like, others don't. I like the New Yorker golf writers like David Owen and Herbert Warren Wind. I find them a better read than your typical Golf Digest articles, but that's just me.

I can't read magazine tips anymore, I try to not even glance at those pages. Over the years, I've seen them contradict themselves on just about every tip imaginable.

I read Feherty's article on the last page of Golf Magazine.
I enjoy reading course reviews and course history articles.
Articles on golf course architecture, golf course architects, and golf course maintenance interest me.

I find that I like the writing on blogs getting better and better. Like Geoff Shackelford, 3JackRitchie, Wei Under Par (A little People magazine-ish though), golfweek.

I like Feherty in general, though sometimes he's better than others... when he's got something interesting to say it's great, sometimes he's clearly just filling space.

Instruction-wise, I despise "tips." It's just not the way to put together a solid game. I do like reading explanations of technique, but it needs to address what the goal is, why it works, etc. "Try X, it'll fix Y" is not helpful unless you plan to make random changes to your swing until it somehow works. Better to have an explanation of what the cause may be and some drills to avoid a particular feature of your swing.

Generally I do like reading about interesting drills.

I generally like to see the tips. Some of them are contradictory (as others have noted), but I find that practicing on the range will show me very quickly which ones are for real and which ones are duds.

I'm probably most interested in finding out about equipment brands I've never heard of before, and what out there is good besides the Titleists and Mizunos of the world. Anyone else agree?

I like hearing about the mom and pop equipment companies. I think you'll read more information about them in forums like thesandtrap than in the popular golf mags.
