So I was playing with three other guys I met on about the fourth hole. We were on the 17th, which is a short par 3, and one of the fellas aced it. It happened to be the one that didn't seem to like me much. Of course at the end of the round we went in to buy drinks, and his buddies said hey, you gonna buy Colin a drink?

The guy looked me directly in the eye and said "Go away kid, this is grown up time."

All his friends thought he should atleast buy me a soda or something.. I was kinda pissed. But I bit my tongue and took off.

I mean after dealing with this guys attitude towards me for 14 holes, I figured I was kinda "part of the group" at least the other guys accepted me. I actually have one guys (Jorge)'s number, he said he'll call me if he ever wants to play, and told me to do the same.

Yeah guy sounds like an ••••••• to me. Everyone I have played with so far has been nice, last time I played with these two older guys and they bought me a Gatorade after the round and invited me to their work tournament the following weekend.

That guy feels inferior in some sort of way and being a prick to you is how he can elevate his status for himself in his own mind. Don't worry about it. Call up the guy who is you traded numbers with sometime and play a round. Don't bring up that situation specifically, but you can indirectly bring it up by commenting on the ace. See if your friend brings it up or says anything about the guy that was being a prick.

Make sure if you ever wind up playing with that guy, and you end up playing better, you make a few smart ass comments about his playing and in front of his friends, put him back in his place. Don't be too douchey with your comments - it might backfire. Just say something like "eewww that had to hurt" or something fairly trivial. Watch his game worsen then when his panties get knotted up.

He'll know who the boss is, then.

No offense but what is your question? This just seems to be a summary of how the event was handled. I assume you're asking what we think of the guy and if so yeah he was def a dousche and you should just brush him off and see if the other guy would like to play again sometime.

Don't worry about it. You will run into more guys like that in your life. Older guys that aren't very good can be a little P.O'd when a young good player shows them up. Keep playing well and when you run into guys like that in the future, just kick their backside and smile.

Some guys get weird about people joining them that they don't know. Sounds like this guy isn't very friendly to begin with, and liked it even less that you were a good golfer and young. He's probably the best golfer in their 3-some and you challenged him skill wise, so you got attitude. His comment was rude, but you need to get thicker skin, there's alot of idiots out there on and off the golf course.

Wow, that guy is an idiot! Forget about him. I have only once seen an ace and the guý who made it in our group didn't even ask if he could buy us champagne or even a beer. He just asked my buddy to sign his card to witness the HIO. Some jerk! He wasn't any fun during the round anyway and to my dissatisfaction I ended up playing in his group again after some months. Hated that round as well...

In your shoes, I'd have probably said something along the lines of "Ok, see you later, •••••••" and walked off. Probably better to say nothing, though.

I was beating him until hole 18, where he did come back and tie my score. It wasn't a good round for me, but seemed like a great one for him so I didn't make any snide remarks. I was just peeved that he didn't offer to buy me a mountain dew or something.

Next time you play with the jerk, if ever, just drop an "owned" with a wink every so often after a hole where you had a better score.

Or say it when you have teed off and you know you crushed it, but before his chance to tee off.

I say just let it go and next time you have a chance to play with him pass. Why get worked up over it? He's a jackass!! There's lots of them out there. At least now you have one identified so you can move on and play with the millions of other golfers out there that are great people.

The guy was obviously a complete as****e, I would of probably said said something like "And I was going to buy you and your buddies a good drink, OK no worries see ya later," turned and kept walking regardless of what his reply was.

Play him again and when you know the outcome is without doubt, give it to him and give it to him good. The prick deserves it.

Just let it go and forget about it. You are going to run across A-holes everywhere in life, and the true measure of a man is how he deals with them. Never stoop to their level, be the bigger person, and you will gain the respect of others who are witness to such events.

    • @boogielicious and I are definitely in for the Stay & Play and will need the extra night's stay on Friday. I don't know what the plans are for our group on Friday but even if we don't make it for dinner with the rest of the Friday arrivals, I'll be more than happy to meet up somewhere for a beer or something.
    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
    • Wish I could have spent 5 minutes in the middle of the morning round to hit some balls at the range. Just did much more of right side through with keeping the shoulders feeling level (not dipping), and I was flushing them. Lol. Maybe too much focus on hands stuff while playing.
    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
