I currently have a pair of Nike Air Rival which have been pretty solid. But I have started to notice that around half way though my heals start to hurt, wondering if there are some better shoes that might be more comfortable to use

I was looking for comfort as well when I bought a pair last year, the Golftown guy was wearing FootJoy Contours and says they are generally considered one of the more comfortable models, look up reviews on them, you will find a lot of people recommending them for comfort, and stability is fine in my opinion.

Good luck

Adidas AD Comfort II Golf Shoes - These are the most comfortable golf shoe I have ever owned. They are lightweight, have good support, and I got them on sale for $49 last fall. I have worn them for about 40 rounds this year and they are still in excellent condition.

Problem - They don't make them anymore! There's one pair on eBay, that is it, size 11.5. (Warning, it may not be there long as I will probably buy it later today). TGW, GolfSmith, RockBottom, GolfDiscount, GolfGalaxy. They make one called the 'AdiComfort' that is close, I think.

While I also have had good luck with FJ Contours, I'd recommend you ignore whatever advice you get here and focus on fit, not what other people think works for them. It is far more likely that your current heal soreness isn't the shoes as much as the fit. Find a style shoe you like, find several different manufacturers and models in that style, then spend the time trying them on and walking around the store a lot. And remember, if they don't fit in the store they aren't going to "break in" or get better - a poor fitting shoe just becomes a used and worn out poor fitted shoe the longer you wear it.

One thought on FootJoy as far as I know they are the only non custom fit shoe maker that makes shoes in different widths. Which is good for me because I can't wear the standard width.

I don't think this is accurate. I know Adidas makes different widths. They have wide in every man's shoe, and an extra wide in their entry level shoes.

This is incorrect... Adidas, Nike, Etonic, Callaway, Oakley, and I'm sure there are others all make 'wide' shoes. I know because I have a 'wide' foot and always look for wide width shoes when I'm shopping. Not all stores carry them, the golf specific places like GolfSmith and Golf Galaxy usually have some wide shoes. The big-box general athletic places like Dick's and Sports Authority usually don't have as large a selection of wide width shoes, if any. Look for the 'W' on the box.

btw - I'm 99% sure the Adidas 'wide' are actually the same shoe as their regular fit, just a 1/2 size bigger. An 11 WIDE Adidas is the same as an 11 1/2 regular. I've compared them side by side in the store and tried them on, the 11W and 11 1/2 are the same length, width, everything.

That was going to be my suggestion. If they fit your foot, the Contours are great. I also have a pair of Green Joys for the range and when it's wet/soupy. They're good but not as durable.

    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
    • Of course there's not a simple or knowable answer here. But the whole Caitlin Clark phenomenon is a nice example IMO. Suddenly there was wall to wall media coverage and national attention and... the women's tournament got similar ratings to the men's and much higher ratings than the men in the final four. With every indication that there will be some portion of the uptick that remains going forward. And there's the whole element that Sue Bird brought up. That basketball needed a pretty enough white superstar guard. One who looks like the "cute little white girls" that describes most of the soccer USWNT that's been able to achieve much higher popularity than any version of women's basketball, which is dominated by black players and none of any race who could be described as little... I do think women's sports are in a good place to start taking off more though. It's really only in the coming 5-10 years that the majority of girls will start to come of age with post Title IX grandmothers (as in their grandmothers were allowed to be serious athletes). I don't follow men's or women's basketball much, but in golf for sure the women's tour has gotten much deeper over the past 20 years and only looks to keep going in that direction. I've heard the same about women's basketball. And the patriarchal attitudes that socialized girls out of sports and everyone out of women's sports fandom aren't gone but have def diminished.

    • I have nothing to add other than I freaking love her swing and I think she's hot as hell and some of my golfing buddies disagree so I fought them
    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.
