I think I was fitted for the wrong shaft

I ordered a new set of Mizuno MP-53 irons on Monday, and I just got them in today. I went through the whole fitting process with the shaft optimizer and everything. I was fitted for True Temper GS95 shafts. However, I think that I was fitted in stiff flex, but when the clubs came in, they are GS95 R300s. I didnt realize this until after I left the golf shop today and went to the range (I only hit the 7 iron, 6 iron, and PW). Something didnt feel right, and low and behold, I look at the shaft, and it is a Regular flex.

Now mind you, I am 25 years old, 5'11'' 170 lbs, and am a U.S. Marine. I swing the driver at about 105 mph and hit the ball about 240-280. My 150 yard iron is either my 7 or my 8 and I swing the 6 iron at about 79-81 mph.

Did I get the wrong shafts in my club? And if so, do you think they can send them back to Mizuno to get new shafts put in them?

Light club, R-flex for the numbers you gave us? Yes. I'm even a bit surprised you weren't told to hard step the stiff shafts.

Edit : Light _shaft_, R-flex... I'm 99% sure is wrong for you. Given your numbers, I think stiff is the softest you'd be fit for.

Do you think that maybe they can be sent back to Mizuno for new shafts, or am I out of luck here? Ill be going back to the golf shop tomorrow.

I really hope so. I think Im just going to go with True Temper Dynamic Gold S330s and be done with it. I just wonder why/how this mistake could have happened? Everything else with the order was correct, 2 degrees flat, the right grip, the right head, etc. The only thing wrong was the flex in the shaft. Either Mizuno screwed up, my golf shop sent in the wrong specs, or something was up when I was hitting the shaft optimizer. Im not mad or anything, mistakes happen, but if they tell me I cant send them back or get them re-shafted, Im going to be pissed off. I spent over $900 for these irons and want them to be right for that kind of money.

I guess the only reason Im nervous, is because I did go out and hit 3 of the clubs. But Im not asking for new heads here, just for the shafts to be changed. I can do that right? Ive never bought irons brand new before, so Im not sure what the protocol is for this kind of stuff.

Just go back and explain the problem and see what they will do. I would be surprised if they didn't make it right, quickly, and at no extra cost to you.

From what I've seen of other peoples issues with different club makers they've been pretty good with customer service. I havent really read of any serious customer service issues anywhere. I don't see Mizuno being aholes about this.

I was on that shaft optimizer with a 86-88 mph swing speed with their 6 iron. I was fitted for the DGSL S300, PX 5.5, KBS Tour Stiff. Don't know if the S300 would be a good option for a 79-81mph since I know I sacrifice distance by using the DG S300 instead of the DGSL S300.

So you think I should be alright, or should I go with the SG95 Stiff?

If you have your build sheet for the order there should be no problem returning them. I ordered mine 1/2" over and one club came standard. I brought it to the shop and they sent me the correct one.

Nah, you got a set of lady southpaws coming in:)

Zach, Did the fitting suggest stiff shafts, but you received regular? Reason I ask, many more folks "should" be hitting regular shafts than actually do. There is a good arguement to be made for hitting the most flexible shaft you can control. I have made this mistake in years past. Don't automatically assume you should not be hitting regular flex shafts. It is possible (yet unlikely I concede) that you got what they fitted you for. I would at least consider another fitting before going through the hassle of having my brand new clubs (that I was pre-fit for) changed. Food for thought at any rate. -Dan

You're only 2 minutes from the shop and feel the order is wrong - why are you bothering seeking answers from random people on the internet who can't do a single thing to resolve this, and instead simply give them a call or drive the 2 minutes to resolve?

Yep since you are only 2 minutes away, go find your fitter and ask him if there was a mistake on the order. If anything he can toss you on the optimizer again.
