Go Miami!

I was surprised they trounced Chicago that easy. Game 5 was awesome. Low scoring sure, but Wade and James owned the final quarter.

Be interesting to see how they handle Dirk

Chicago didn't look good in the last 10 minutes (the only part of any basketball worth watching). I don't like watching the NBA too much because the reffing is so poor. Wade takes 4 steps on a layup (count it!) and Lebron pretends he's hurt then winks to the bench. It's like watching a Sharks game!

i know man I cant believe chicago lost that game. They were up by 12 with 3:30 seconds left. Wade runs down the court and shoots a 3, Rose barely touches his hand and he gets a 4 point play. Chicago misses and Lebron runs up court and makes another 3. Miami literally made like 10 points in one minute. It was ridiculous. Miami is a playoff team tho

Fixed.

Also noteworthy was Rose' free throw miss, then failed 3 pointer ( great block by James ).

Poor guy was blaming himself for the series loss though, which is a bit rough, considering his shitty team mates he has to rely on...Boozer? Noah?

Deng is the only other decent player

No, it really isn't. Missing travelling calls in basketball would be like missing offsides in hockey. Regarding the the dives. There are a few embellishemts in hockey. Probably 2 or 3 per game and often the guilty party gets a penalty for it. That's just one reason why it's frowned upon by coaches and team mates (plus the fact it's lame). There are 2 or 3 dives and embellishmnents every 10 seconds in basketball. It's amazing that guys so strong can fall over so easily as someone runs past them.

I don't know about the rest of you, but the idea of an offensive player simply bulling his way to the basket is not basketball.Β  Maybe it's Sumo wrestling basketball?Β  It seems to me there is foul on every play, both offensively and defensively.Β  Obviously the NBA wants the change to the game but if it continues to migrate toward a full contact sport, injuries will eventually become an issue.Β  I think the game would be better with 5 rather than 6 fouls and more emphasis on skills rather than brute strength.Β  We have a sport for the latter and it is called football.Β  Just an opinion (but several of us that played college basketball were talking about this recently and agreed the NBA is not basketball as we knew it.)

Yea Rose for most of the Miami games near the end would have too many turnovers. Last game he runs downcourt with 2: 30 mins left and he dribbles off his foot to a miami player. When the game was tied with 2 mins left, Rose then runs downcourt and throws a pass to a miami player. He didnt play this bad all year, normally he would drive to the hoop and make a quick 2 or get a 3 point play with ease. Chicago didnt lose more than 2 games in a row all season and had the best record.

I don't mind bulling your way to the basket, I just think the refs, maybe even more often than not, get way too many calls bass ackwards. Star players get a disproportionate amount of calls, and heavy guys get the shaft. Make ups calls are rampant, and blocking/charge calls seem to be missed more than they are made. On average, I'd like to see less calls, but that would never happen because the refs would get in the habit of not making calls, then they would miss all of the real ones and call a few BS ones now and then to make up for it. Which is basically what goes on now.

But, I digress. I'm rooting for the Mavs. Miami doesn't really have an answer for Dirk (Bosh can't guard outside, which is why KG was able to have a few decent games, and the rest of Miami's big guys are big and heavy, and can't stay with Dirk). Then again, the Mavs don't really have an answer for Wade or James so....

I can't say I thought it was a surprise to see the Bulls go down quickly. Even Scotty Pippen said it on ESPN this morning, they reallyΒ overachievedΒ all year.

Exactly. There are hardly any traveling calls in basketball because there aren't any to call, so it's as rare as off sides in hockey. If anything, there are too many calls in Basketball which aren't the offensive players fault ( ie. they charge to the basket and get fouled . A 200 pound guy going up for a lay up mid air collides with another 200 pound guy, someones gonna fall, not dive.

Basketball is an extremely rough sport...and there's no protective gear. Most of these guys are 6 foot plus 200 pounds

Hockey is sometimes embarrassing to watch. Sticks that miss the face by a foot and then a guy grabs his face and falls to the ice.

Refs need to relax on fouls IMO, but it's not because players are diving, it's because refs are whistle happy. Jamo is right when saying star players get too many calls, which again, is the refs fault, not the player.

You're joking right? Almost without fail, each and every time a point guard handles the ball he invariably walks (or travels), double dribles, or carries the ball at some point. Maybe the rules have been softened for the pro game, but 4 steps on a layup is still illegal, isn't it? Why even require bouncing the ball?

Bball players dive a lot. It's part of the culture. Some players do it more than others, but in hockey it's still seen as embarassing with good reason. It is. What's your opinion on Portugese soccer? Is that an ethical way to play the game?

As a Chicagoan, I'm rooting for the Mavs. I'm a fan of Wade (chicago native) but I can't stand how Lebron plays, acts, flops, etc. Never really been a fan of Dirk, but he's always been so consistent and is a great player without a championship ring.

Rose is only going to get better. I question some of his decisions and the overall coaching down the stretch, but give him a few years and he'll be one of the elite (hopefully clutch) players in the NBA.

Anyone else notice how Rose missed the ft down at the game and how it mirrors the 2008 championship?

I can not recall the last time I saw a 4 step layup -Β  so I don't know!

Soccer is the worst sport in the world for theatrics. This is the reason I quit watching it.

Rugby is the only sport I can think of where drawing a penalty is hard. Probably why it's the most entertaining as well.

FWIW, if you search "NBA travel" in YouTube, well, just do it. Lots of examples.

Dribbling violations and traveling have become a joke. They are never called, and even when they are it's usually either a no-name guy who can't yet get away with it or it's a guy who catches a pass looking to post up and messes up his pivot. Most star players carry/palm the ball every time they dribble, and take a good 3 or 4 steps every time they go for a lay up. Of course, they can do that because they know they are just going to get a foul call anyway.

I want to say that I shouldn't be too hard on refs, but if you've ever played basketball you know it's not that hard to call fouls.

I don't think you watch much hockey. There are plenty of offsides calls in a game. It's not really a very bad thing, and a good defense can force an offense to go offsides a lot more.

Also, there's a diving call in hockey, and the player who literally fakes being hit with a stick in the face is rare because those players are well known. If you look at the stuff that's not called in a hockey game - and with no "acting" at all - I think you'd be surprised. Yes, they're padded, which is why hitting is allowed to begin with. Plus hockey has a penalty for "diving."

I don't watch the NBA. I hate soccer. Love to play soccer, hate to watch soccer because of all the people faking it like they've sustained mortal injury.

Padding...pfft

TBH, I used to watch a lot of hockey, but got sick of it. I personally find it boring to watch o T.V - I've seen a few games at the Saddledome which was much more entertaining, mainly because of the heroin beer and the crowd, rather than the hockey. And the 'fights' are lame...seriously.

I only watch golf, basketball, rugby and league ( the latter have bigger hits, more frequently, and they don't wear any padding )

eg.

Maybe they need to start calling the traveling more, and less of the defensive fouls

I dunno, it's a lot of work to ref a basketball game especially with guys like Rose, Wade, James, etc who move so fast and get 3 on 1 defense

Well this is an intense finals.

Le Bron is nowhere, Dirk is playing good as expected. Terry can't miss 3's and his passing is phenomenal. Lots of flopping by both teams.
