Working at a course over the years I've noticed the old dudes coming in from biopsies. Having chucks of cancerous badness off their forehead or ears removed. I wisened up and drench myself in sunblock and wear a hat. I'd like more ear and neck protection.

I've been on eBay, I've been on amazon, I've been on google shopping. I can't find what I'm looking for. I want a lightweight bucket hat, 100* temps are among us in SoCal. Maybe there are some outdoor retailers you can recommend, REI, Columbia, or the like?

Gracias.

I did edit my original post, taking out the sentences stating that I'd like to stay away from the ridiculous hats. No offense and thanks for the suggestion funkyfred, but I think I'd cut my own ears off before wearing a Norman style straw hat. I look like a goofball in hats to begin with, let alone a bucket hat. I'm looking as plain as possible made with leightweight materials.

I recommend going for something brightly colored.  If you're going to look goofy you might as well find something that stands out.  Also go with the wide brim for the best sun protection.  Think Indiana Jones' fedora but in a colorful lightweight material.

Tilley? Pretty much the outdoor hats. Might have something non-dorky enough?

I have a couple of Ahead brand bucket hats that I rotate. Look like this, minus the logo. Only weird thing is some shrink in the wash and some don't. My son gets the ones that shrink.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Every once in awhile I play in this, of course it's a lot dirtier and encrusted with sweat and iraqi sand:

Shouldn't be wearing the EGA unless you were or are a Marine, but you can get the older styles all day long online for like 10 bucks.

Damn!  Well you could always grow your hair out long to cover your ears.

What did I miss??  I kinda like the SHARK hat...beats the hell out that stuff that Sabatini is sporting, no?  I often wear the straw hat, al le Nick Saban bearing the NY METS band...they hate it here in Bama!  Very light wt., and keeps the sun at bay very well.

Do they make one that doesn't say PING on it, because then he might wear it.

I agree - Sabatini's hat is easily as fugly as the cowboy hats Norman used to wear.

Someone needs to punch Sabatini in the head for wearing that hat.

Bucket hats are easy to find, Ive got a few from in high school golf (yes I wore bucket hats more than a few times). They were from american eagle. Theres also titleist ones etc but I dont know if you want to stay away from big name golf company ones.

the norman hat is horrible, sabbatini's is just geeky and way out.

I think you have to be 50+ to pull any of these off otherwise you look like sabbatini.

how about something that is more current?
